The Toile de Jouy Museum traces the history of the Toile de Jouy factory, created in 1760 in Jouy-en-Josas by Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf (1738-1815). Also called "Indian", Toile de Jouy is a painted or printed cotton fabric. The Toile de Jouy Museum was created in 1977 in Jouy-en-Josas, the town where the Toile de Jouy originated, to ensure the continuity of the work of its creator Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf and to promote the qualities of entrepreneurship, humanism and openness to the world. Installed in 1991 at the Château de l'Eglantine, the museum bears witness to the quality and know-how of the productions of the Oberkampf factory, which was active from 1760 to 1848. Its collections bring together nearly 10,000 items from the 18th century to the present day, including: painted and printed canvases, sample albums, drawings, gouache prints, paintings, costumes, furniture, bed linens, as well as various tools and mechanisms related to the printing technique. The French Revolution was launched… During the Revolution, the idea was raised to replace the Royal Tennis court with a commemorative monument, but nothing was done before 1880, when the hall was turned into a museum in preparation for the centenary of that decisive event. At the beginning, it was only a modest castle built by Louis XIII for hunting. However, Louis XIV chose this site to build the palace we know today, a symbol of royal absolutism and the embodiment of French classical art. In the 1670s, Louis XIV had the Grand Apartments of the King and Queen fitted out. The most emblematic achievement of these spaces, places of parade and reception par excellence, remains the Hall of Mirrors designed by Mansart. The Maison Léon Blum is the last home of the illustrious statesman, man of letters and architect of many social advances. All the rooms can be visited, from the kitchen to the modest bedrooms and the vast office-library. Léon Blum lived there from 1945, on his return from the Buchenwald camp, until his death in 1950. The day after his death, his wife Jeanne had plans to convert the house into a museum. When she died in 1982, Jeanne Blum bequeathed the house to the commune of Jouy-en-Josas with the mission of maintaining the memory of Léon Blum and developing cultural and artistic activities there. Listed as a Historic Monument, the House became a museum in 1986 and was awarded the label "Maison des Illustres" by the Ministry of Culture in 2012. Since 2017, it has benefited from a new permanent exhibition space that can be used by groups and schools. This space is composed of multiple documentary resources that allow the life and work of Léon Blum to be retraced in all its diversity. As Jeanne wished, the Maison Léon Blum is today a living place of memory and culture.

This 8 hectare park was composed of tree groves, winding path and a tiny river, powered by the tanks of Montbauron. Le Monnier, Louis XIV's physician and botanist, collected some rare plants in it. In 1960, two passionate amateurs, Jean and André Fage, opened an associative museum in Bièvres. For more than thirty years they brought together images and objects testifying to the history of photography. The Departmental Council of Essonne welcomes you to a departmental museum approved "Museum of France" since 2003. The French Museum of Photography offers a temporary exhibitions program that allows to rotate the museum three funds: images, devices and documentation. With an exceptional collection of nearly a million images, 25,000 materials, more than 50,000 printed documents (books, manuals, catalogs, magazines, posters, etc.), from 1839 to the present day, the French Museum Photography aims to tell the story and history of photography! How were pictures taken in 1850, during the First World War or at the end of the 20th century? How were images disseminated at a time when we did not know yet how to reproduce them in books and newspapers? How did chemistry make them appear in the darkness of the laboratory, long before computers, printers and digital networks are invented? Why did we move from a complex craft to a flourishing industry and a universal practice? What is the use of billions of photos produced, reproduced, classified, preserved and sometimes forgotten or discarded? Begin to answer these questions, and many others, by discovering surprising images, mysterious objects, amusing commercials... thanks to the museum, we try to understand our "civilization of the image", to form our critical eye, to discover the little stories that make up the great History of the image.

The museum is part of a heritage conservation approach and invites the public to discover lost or forgotten crafts. The museum tour is guided by volunteers of the LADO Association, founded in 1983. The association aims safeguarding the handicraft heritage. Located in the inner village, in a renovated building, it has three levels totaling approximately 150 m2. You can discover cathedral builders and bronze-smiths on the ground floor then trades of the thread (haberdashery, seamstress, lacemaker ...), milliner and linen maid on the 1st floor, and finally the woodwork on the 2nd floor. Bièvres tool fair takes place on May 1st of each year.

Countess du Barry was King Louis XV's favorite and purchased this estate in 1772, in order to welcome her own housekeepers and assigned the construction of the fabulous stables to the architect Claude Nicolas Ledoux. After King Louis XV's death, in 1775, she was forced to split off of her entire estate, for the benefit of the Count of Provence, brother of the new King, Louis XVI. The Count let Jean François Chalgrin continue the construction. From the French Revolution, the estate became a military area. Then the house and the stables were seperated in 1902: they are now the Police Headquarters. The other part belongs to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Versailles, from 1937. It still keeps gorgeous decors and outstanding works of the last King Louis XV's favorite. The site is only accessible on a guided tour with the Versailles Tourist Office!
