Unveil Saint-bon-tarentaise with Fahrenheit Seven Courchevel

This snowshoe hike goes through an unspoiled setting and leads to a magnificent site: Lake Rosière.

This high-altitude path is a downhill trail providing a magnificent panorama over the Dent du Villard and the surrounding mountains.

Leaving from Courchevel Moriond, this downhill trail will take you to the heart of the unspoilt forest of Courchevel and contact with well-preserved nature. Watch out for hard snow or even iced snow in the forest, according to weather conditions.

A lovely descent through snow-covered meadows, taking you to see the oldest tree in the Forêt de Courchevel: the silver fir tree. From Courchevel Tourisme, go down the stairs to reach the Vieux Moriond. After a steep descent between the houses, cross the road and follow straight on to La Corbière, amid the snow-covered meadows. In the hamlet, continue to go downhill on the trail that goes into the forest. At the first hairpin bend, you can discover the Silver Fir tree (a few metres away, on a flat ground). Back on the trail, follow your descent, pass a second hairpin turn then, on the straight section, go on a small path on the left. Follow this track until you reach a crossroad, then go right. A few turns further, you will reach the Rosière lake trail (from this point, it is possible to join the loop). Turn left to reach the former sawmill and La Jairaz (by the same road, it possible to continue this itinerary to Saint-Bon). The itinerary is easy but the snow may be hard or icy in the forest, depending on conditions.

THE "MONTAGNETTES" What is a “montagnette”? It is a stopover (at an altitude of 1400-1800m) occupied for a few weeks in spring and autumn when taking the herd up to the mountain pasture and back down again. Families brought their livestock from the village to the mountain pasture to graze depending on the grass. Every family on the “montagnette” had what they needed to live on and make cheese whilst having a link to the village. When spring came, residents of the Saint-Bon hamlets “moved” to the mountains. Over the summer they made numerous journeys to and from the top and bottom of the village for farm work (hay, harvest). Discover the old montagnettes of Saint-Bon by walking between Courchevel MOriond and Courchevel Village. Le Vieux Moriond, Le Petit Moriond, Les Provères, Les Grangettes, Les Rois, Les Brigues, Le Lételé, La Choulière, Montgela, La Corbière etc. Aren’t these names funny? Most of them are names of parts of Courchevel Village and Courchevel Moriond and also place names. They have one thing in common: they form what was known as Les Montagnettes de Saint-Bon. Some have become part of the resort’s urban fabric: Vieux Moriond and Petit Moriond in Courchevel Moriond, and Les Provères, Les Grangettes, Les Rois, Les Brigues and Le Lételé in Courchevel Village. La Choulière, Montgela and La Corbière have kept their distance from tourist development. Uphill or downhill walk which you can do both ways with a shuttle bus return journey.

This route combining resort ski slopes and a much wilder side takes you through two completely different settings. You'll begin by climbing the Courchevel's resort slopes and continue steadily on up a wide mountain pasture track as far as Col de la Platta (altitude of 2,408m) not far from Vanoise National Park. This path takes you to Kamelot Camp amongst the fir trees, where you can refuel at the little Canadian-style cabin and enjoy fun, original activities at the lake. Petit Moriond By shuttle bus, get off at the “Club Hotel 1650” stop. By car, park in the Cimes Blanches car park (free covered car park in summer). Take the last roundabout at the Courchevel-Moriond exit, heading towards 1850, and take the road heading downhill to the right, towards “Petit Moriond”. Then take the second road on the left “Rue du Petit Moriond” and follow the hiking trail signs.

Discover the Plan du Vah lake and Praméruel forest by ski touring. This quiet, yet, fairly demanding route takes you up to the Cave des Creux, where you can enjoy superb views over the Vanoise peaks. The route is sometimes reserved for ski touring, sometimes shared with pedestrians, and on the final ascent it runs alongside a ski slope. At Plan du Vah, you’ll need to take off your skis to cross the main road.

Being close to water is very relaxing as you walk through the light-filled forest. Look out for a wide range of rare and protected species along the way. Avoid in heavy rain. Lac de la Rosière Car Park By shuttle bus (line H), go to the end of the line and get off at the “Lac de la Rosière” stop. By car, turn left at the first roundabout as you come into Courchevel Moriond, take several sharp bends heading towards Belvédère and take “Route de la Rosière” going downhill on the left, on the same level as the hiking symbol, just after Le Zenith hotel. It can sometimes be difficult to park at La Rosière, so we recommend that you park at the Cimes Blanches (free covered car park in summer) car park in Courchevel Moriond, and take a shuttle bus that will drop you right at the site entrance.

NOTRE-DAME DES NEIGES CHAPEL: The chapel was built in 1650 at the request of Saint-Bon’s priest: Pierre Pachod. Most of the sanctuaries consecrated to Notre-Dame des Neiges are at altitude (this one is at 1570m) to provide shelter from avalanches. The saint is supposed to protect the harvest by stopping the snow from falling before the harvest has been collected. The saint also protects chalets, herds and mountain pastures. The chapel has statues of Saint-Claude, Saint-Guérin and Saint-Roch. Notre-Dame des Neiges is very popular in Savoie and the saint’s day is on August 5th. Courchevel Moriond residents still celebrate the village fête over the weekend.

Courchevel Moriond has a second chapel devoted to Sainte Blandine (consecrated in 1953 and rebuilt in 1973 in a modern style). Its interior has an old mission crucifix which once stood in Le Biol in the Vallon des Avals.

Courchevel Village has two chapels. The first one is devoted to Saint François de Sales and Sainte Jeanne de Chantal, two popular local saints, in Les Grangettes (consecrated in 1965 and raised in 1995).

DENYS PRADELLE’S HOUSE Denys Pradelle lived here with his family when he moved to Courchevel in 1946 to oversee initial work on the new resort. The architect was one of the pioneers along with Laurent Chappis (architect-urban planner) who contributed to the creation of Courchevel 1850, a project which was launched by the Savoie region in collaboration with Saint-Bon politicians.

SAINT-CURE D’ARS CHAPEL An enchanting site ideal for meditation! The chapel was consecrated in 1939 and houses paintings depicting popular saints (Saint-Bon, Saint-Antoine, Saint-Martin, Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Sainte-Agnès, Saint-Claude and Saint-Jean l’Evangéliste).

At the bottom of Les Avals valley, Le Lac de la Rosière is the departure for many walking path. A via ferrata for beginners is available. New: this summer, a nature guide will be on site and will offer activities in a “forest school” spirit to children and adults.

This hamlet lies at an altitude of 1260m on the south-west gypsum slopes of Dent du Villard. The area around the hamlet was extensively farmed and you can still see harvest terraces and hayfields. Saint-Grat Chapel (prior to 1655) is now a ruin. Residents prayed to Saint-Grat to protect the harvest. It was abandoned at the end of the 50s due to a lack of water. Now only one house is occupied and another is under renovation.

A magical site accessible only by foot, snowshoeing or ski touring. A small chalet warmed with a wood stove welcomes you to enjoy hot drinks, local and/or organic products and spend a pleasant time. The chalet is located at 2 km from the start of the road "Route du lac de la Rosière" (Hotel Zénith), groomed but not plowed, not open to traffic. The chalet has a small sitting area with a wood stove and a room for twenty people. A catering entirely made on the spot based on local and/or organic products is offer in snack service. Mountain refuge on the shores of the Merlet lakes, in Vanoise National Park, surrounded by exceptional scenery that is characteristic of the mountains. Quiet, small mountain refuge. The refuge is staffed in the summer and open to access freely in the winter (wood and gas provided) Staffed in the summer from the end of June to the beginning of September. Weekend bookings are possible in September and October. Open to access freely in the winter, with a fee of €10 that should be left behind.

The Merlet Lake shelter is the smallest mountain hut in the Vanoise National Park. It belongs to the Town Hall, is open daily in July and August and managed by a member of the general public. It is open the rest of the year but unstaffed. Blankets alone are provided. The mountain hut is in the heart of the National Park in Avals Valley at an altitude of 2,417m. It has a terrace, common room with refectory, dormitory with 14 bunk beds and a 4-bed attic room over the common room. It has composting toilets and two outdoor water fountains which are free to the general public and guests alike (no shower). The hut can only be reached on foot. It has bivouac authorisation from Vanoise National Park subject to the number of beds in the hut. The Refuge des lacs Merlets is located in the heart of the Vanoise National Park at 2,417 m in altitude. It is a Chaloin type refuge, rustic and warm and made from wood. Built in the 1970s, it can accommodate 14 people per night.

Mountain refuge offering overnight stays and catering, located in the Avals valley on the edge of the Vanoise National Park. The site is ideal for hiking, climbing (several equipped cliffs), mountain biking/electric mountain biking (electric bike charging station), fishing, and exploring the Vanoise National Park. The Grand Plan refuge is nestled deep in the Avals Valley, a hidden gem of Courchevel, at the gateway to the Vanoise National Park. The landscapes range from the glacial peaks of the Mont Blanc massif to the verdant mountain pastures of the Grand Plan and the many surrounding lakes. The area is ideal for hiking, climbing (with several equipped cliffs of varying difficulty and length), mountain biking/electric bike riding, fishing in mountain lakes, exploring the Vanoise National Park, and, of course, admiring the magnificent scenery. The refuge offers overnight stays in dormitories or small rooms, as well as quality meals for lunch and dinner; a relaxation area, library, and games are also available. There will also be entertainment: Nepalese evenings every Friday evening, occasional musical entertainment.

Parking in the Bouquetin car park is limited to 7 days for light vehicles. Parking for motorhomes is limited to 24 hours by municipal decree. For a longer duration, contact the campsites. Public restrooms, water spigot.

⚠️ CLOSED FOR SUMMER 2025 ⚠️ A green oasis at the foot of the mountains. Located on the edge of the Isertan forest, Camping le Chamois is a peaceful spot. You'll appreciate its setting and the surrounding tranquility. Campground with 139 campsites: located along the forest's edge, calm, partial access for persons with reduced mobility, near several activities (pool, ice rink, via ferrata...) and trailheads.
