Let yourself be surprised by the treasures of Romanesque art in the Thouet valley. Discover this charming little town of character. You will start this walk in front of the Tourist Office of Airvault, near the 19th century covered market. From here, you can see the façade of the Saint-Pierre abbey, the half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, the access to the underground fountain (you can ask for the key free of charge at the Tourist Office in exchange for an ID) and the highest tower of the town's castle. You will continue this discovery by going to the municipal museum Jacques Guidez, presenting an exhibition with arts and popular traditions. Then take a step up to the Old Castle, a private property, which gives you a superb panorama of the town from its threshold.

From the medieval town, join the Thouet and discover on your way the architectural testimonies of the XIXth and XXth century (Art Nouveau house, Sénéchaux castle...). Your return by the footbridge of Catalogne will allow you to join the Saint Jérôme suburb and the picturesque district of the Old Castle, seat of the temporal power of the city in the Middle Ages. The booklet "Les chemins d'Aldéarde" is available for sale at the Tourist Office of Airvault, at the Jacques Guidez museum in Airvault and at the town hall. Then follow the medallions of Aldéarde to discover the treasures of the "Petite Cité de Caractère".

Discover the Saint-Pierre abbey church, the conventual buildings and the abbey church which houses the ethnographic museum. Then, join the Place des Promenades for a 1.5 km walk to discover the Petite Cité de Caractère. Wild fauna and flora are part of our local heritage. Called "ordinary biodiversity", these species are often ignored or poorly known by the inhabitants, both young and old. This 12 km discovery trail is punctuated by 44 panels designed by the Fédération Départementale des Chasseurs and set up in partnership with the municipality. Each panel presents an animal or plant species of the Deux-Sèvres. For the plants: flowers, fruits and leaves, but also the use made of them by Man or animals are presented. These "plant kingdom" panels are positioned near the plants they describe. The panels of the "animal kingdom" present the description of the animal, its habits, its diet and its reproduction, as well as the footprints and the signs of presence, which allow to detect their passage.

Come and discover the fauna and flora of the largest lake in the Deux-Sèvres department, which is both a drinking water reserve (a water treatment plant is associated with the dam) and an ornithological reserve. Property of the Conseil général des Deux-Sèvres, the Cébron lake offers a multitude of landscapes changing with the seasons. It presents an important biological richness and shelters in particular numerous species of birds. Come and discover its biodiversity by taking advantage of the many nature activities offered on the site (nature outings, exhibitions, hiking, fishing, sailing...)! Discover the landscape Thouarsais through this bike loop between Dive and Thouet. Throughout the walk, you can admire the abbey church of Saint-Jouin-de-Marnes, the castle of Oiron, the dolmens of Taizé and much more ... are you ready? Follow then from Ligaine, the wooden terminals with a bicycle and green directional arrows. Without indications, continue your way. Good walk between Dive and Thouet!

Every year, the meadow plays host to summer festivals and year-round events. Whether you're on your own, with family or friends, you can take an orienteering course through the meadow, by bike or on foot. Terminals are available to the public. In order to allow walkers to see the Thouet in a different way, the Syndicat Mixte de la Vallée du Thoeut wished to enhance the banks of the river through the installation of permanent works of art. Within the framework of a public order from the Ministry of Culture and with the support of the art center la Chapelle Jeanne d'Arc de Thouars, three works were created in 2019. A second tranche comprising three sites in the communes of Saint-Généroux, Airvault and Saint-Loup-Lamairé, was delivered in September 2022 with the project "Ricochets" by Hugues REIP. For these last three works, it is the first gesture that is materialized by the bronze casting of the pebble generating the first ricochet. The splash of water resulting from the impact is also made of bronze with a patina, waxed, simulating a liquid metal.

This medieval castle from the 11th and 14th centuries is one of the rare examples of medieval military architecture. The two towers and the gate tower date from this period. The buildings inside the courtyard date from the 15th century. The Old Castle presents a beautiful defensive ensemble. It is located in the heart of the town of Airvault, labeled "Petite Cité de Caractère", and is classified as a "Monument Historique". Airvault, a "Petite Cité de Caractère", is dotted with architectural treasures and is steeped in history. The Halles, built at the end of the Middle Ages, took on their current appearance in 1846. The Halles testify to the importance of trade in medieval times. 40 meters long, 10 meters wide, their slate roof rests on an apparent oak frame. They host a weekly market on Saturday morning.

This "Historic Monument" is a pure jewel of Romanesque art, a superb assembly of 11th, 12th and 13th century architecture. Come and discover its magnificent historiated capitals, its Plantagenet style vaults, its mechanical organ classified as a "Historic Monument" and the sculpted tomb of its first abbot Pierre-de-Saine-Fontaine. The underground fountain is an exceptional and unique site. The Tourist Office will provide you with a free key to visit the site, in exchange for proof of identity and acceptance of the rules with your signature. When the Tourist Office is not open, the Airvault Museum will provide you with the key (open from mid-April to the end of September). You can also obtain the key at the "lépicerie", Place Saint-Pierre, in Airvault. The cylinder organ is a rare and unique instrument in Western France, it was built in Mirecourt. It was restored in 2011. The municipality of Airvault currently owns 8 of the original 12 cylinders. Demonstrations of the cylinder organ, with the possibility of guided tours of the abbey church, can take place on request from the heritage department of the town hall of Airvault (05 49 64 69 51) or from the association "Les Amis de l'Abbatiale" (Serge Rousseau : 05 49 70 81 92 / 06 88 79 31 84).
