The department takes great pride in its two Protected Designation of Origin cheeses: the Brie de Meaux and Brie de Melun... And it also enjoys completely unexpected cheese treasures whose production sites till now held the secrets of production: tomme rouge, camenchèvre, Brie-Yères, cœur à la crème, roblochèvre, etc.

Part of this PR itinerary, Coteaux de l'Aulnoye territory, represents 900 ha of wooded and green spaces. The walker will discover different viewpoints of the town of Coubron, its village, its farmed fields, the vines, its forests. From Dhuis forest the walker will reach Bondy forest and will notice lakes, fauna and flaura here. This itinerary allows you to discover Seine-Saint-Denis through a mosaic view of unexpected landscapes. The artist Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot often resided in Coubron between 1867 and 1875.

Built by the transient fortune of two financiers at the end of Louis XIV’s reign, this chateau is a model of eighteenth century architecture and decoration. The most famous occupier was the Marquise de Pompadour, who rented the chateau for three years in 1757, spending a considerable amount on it. The century which followed saw the chateau passing from hand to hand before being acquired by Count Louis Cahen d’Anvers, who spent a fortune on restoring it. The Count’s son gifted the chateau and land to the State in 1935 and it became one of the official residences of the French Republic. Many kings and heads of State were welcomed there. The architect Jean Baptiste Bullet endeavoured to improve domestic layout by building rooms that no longer communicated with each other, an innovation. For the first time, there were ante-rooms and dressing rooms, and hidden staircases for access to the servants’ quarters. The novelty of a dining room specially reserved for taking meals was also an improvement. In the salons and rooms on the ground floor and first floor, exquisite furniture and refined decorations can be seen. The Chinese salon has panels painted by Huet that illustrate the oriental tastes of the eighteenth century. Visitors will see a delightful portrait of the Marquise dressed as a gardener on their tour.

A discovery tour around the Brie de Meaux AOP is waiting for you. Historical reenactments and tableaux will allow you discover more about the history of this famous cheese. An essential collection on the 1914-18 war. With a collection of nearly 70,000 objects and documents recounting daily and military life during the 1914-18 war, the Musée de la Grande Guerre (Great War Museum), which opened its doors on 11 November 2011 on the grounds of the First Battle of the Marne in Meaux, is Europe's largest museum on the First World War. Covering an area of 3,000 m², it features one of the richest and most diverse collections on the 1914-18 war in an attractive and innovative setting. The Musée de la Grande Guerre (Great War Museum) is the ideal place for a family visit. A veritable treasure trove of educational resources throughout the collection: see, hear, touch and handle.... Within a contemporary building, ARCHÉA suggests making discover the history of the Country of France through the result of archaeological researches led for 40 years. About 750 objects stemming from 87 present archeological sites in the collections of the museum are presented within an alive and interactive permanent exhibition. In 1825, Jean-Antoine-Brutus Menier acquired the Noisiel mill and three hectares of land. This site is at the origin of the creation of a factory for the industrial production of chocolate. The manufacturing site has undergone several phases of transformation since the arrival of the Meniers in 1825 and the presence of a mill designed to grind pharmaceutical substances. From the 1860s, the business became a real industrial complex where the organisation of the manufacturing space was completely redesigned. The buildings were then arranged in accordance with the manufacturing process. The design of the mill by Jules Saulnier (1878-1881) is a successful collaboration between "Art Nouveau" architecture from the end of the 19th century and industrial functionality. The industrial complex was completed from 1874 with the construction of a workers' city. Up to 1924, the reconstructions and new buildings, made necessary by the expansion of production, perfectly integrated the technical progress of the 19th century, as well as an exceptional architectural aesthetic. After the departure of the Menier family in 1960, the lands of the complex were sold to several successive groups. The old Menier chocolate factory was converted into a head office by the Nestlé-France SAS group in 1996. This conversion, carried out by the architects Reichen and Robert, is based on "the dialogue between contemporary and ancient architecture". The buildings of the first Menier factories now belong to the French industrial heritage and have been listed as historic monuments since 1986.

The park of château Champs-sur-Marne is one of the most beautiful gardens in the Ile-de-France region. The formal French garden and the English garden cover 85 hectares. The formal French Garden was designed around 1710 by Claude Desgot nephew and pupil of Le Nôtre a famous landscape gardener and creator of the Versailles gardens. The English Gardens are formed around wide lawns, decorated with sculptures and offer a great variety of trees. There are black Austrian Pine trees, Redwood trees, very old lime trees and many other species which the visitors may discover.

From departmental park of La Bergère, continue on the cycle track along the canal up to the bridge of Sevran (8 km). From there, the least sports can join the RER(REGIONAL EXPRESS NETWORK) B at the station of Sevran-Livry. The bravest will continue up to the park of la Poudrerie mill to Sevran (500 m). They will discover it the vestiges of the national Powder mill (closure of the park at 7:45 pm). After a well deserved stopping place, you will do the return trip return to join Paris. Attention on the wind which blows generally in the sense of return (route more tiring than on the way out).

The native place of Louis Braille is situated in this typical village in a street bearing his name. The house was turned into a museum in 1959, classified as national monument it has conserved its authentically setting and aspect. The museum is run by the world organisation for blind, the French comity Louis Braille and the township of Coupvray, owner of the place. In 2009 a new entrance hall was set up in the former barn building it is named after “Jean Roblin ” founder of a local association, which has conserved this place before it became a museum. Louis Braille is born here in on January 4th 1809. At the age of 3 the boy hurt his eye using the tools of his father a saddle marker. The infection passed to the second eye and the boy goes blind t the age of 5. He is a brilliant student in the village school, which he left at the age of 10 in order to continue his studies in Paris at the royal institution for blind. There Louis Braille elaborates and teaches his system of writing based on six raised points namely for music also. 1835 Louis Braille has tuberculosis of which he dies in 1852. First buried in the local cemetery close to his family his corps is brought to the Pantheon in 1952 for a national tribute to his invention. There is a reliquary of his hands on the funeral monument in Coupvray.

This former sand pit, located in a loop of the Marne in the municipalities of Trilbardou and Charmentray constitutes a body of water of more than 100 hectares. As part of its policy of land acquisition and enhancement of sensitive natural areas, the General Council of Seine-et-Marne is working to enhance the Olivettes site. This natural space shelters a remarkable avifauna in period of nesting and wintering; such as the Goldeneye or Common Merganser hibernating in winter, or the Black Milan and the Bluethroat (species breeding in the reed bed of the site: access prohibited unless authorized). >> A pedestrian path (accessible to people with reduced mobility and strollers) allows you to discover the natural and landscape heritage of the site. Do not miss the two observatories!

The elevatory factory of Trilbardou is a pumping station built under Napoleon III. Its role is to complete the water supplies of the Ourcq canal with water from the Marne river. It notably offers an impressive testimony of the hydropower technological innovations of the XIXth Century. The original pumping machine, first implemented in 1869, was created by the hydraulic engineer Alphonse Sagebien. The plant is composed of a monumental water-wheel of 11 m diameter and 6 m large functioning under a 1,20m waterfall, and operating four volumetric pumps that can push back 27000m3 of water everyday. If, in Trilbardou today’s pumping is performed with newer installations, the Sagebien machine is classified as Historical Monument.
