In the Pays des Bonshommes, the 'land of the good men', follow the trails to discover the heritage of La Mazière aux Bons Hommes.At La Fontaine Saint-Jean, on the D10, at the entrance of the village, coming from Crocq, take the small road in the village that goes up to the church, then go along beside the cemetery. After a few metres, turn right and continue into the woods.Continue alongside the Grande Naute lake and go on up to the road. Leave the village of Cherbaudy on the right. Cross the D 941, and head towards Sibiou.After about 300 m, turn left, through the Bois du Calvaire, to the chapel of Saint-Mamert. Continue along the wooded path to the D 941.Cross the D 941 to take the marked path in front of you. At the first crossroads, turn right and follow the path for 400 m. before going downhill between two low walls towards the Etang du Châtelard. Go over the causeway and continue straight up.At the road, turn left at an acute angle and follow the road to La Villeneuve - Pindogne. Continue for 500 m. until you reach the small road on the left and go down through the fir plantation.Continue on to a T-junction; Turn right, leave the Chemin du Châtelard opposite, and turn left towards La Mazière.Go through the church square, walk along beside the parish buildings and you will be on the trail that leads to the Saint-Jean Fountain.

Start: le Montaurat Markings: yellow 1 - Start on the hill near the Cross. Go down the asphalt road. 2 - Turn right towards the D941. Follow the road through the village. 3 - Turn right onto Chemin des Buigettes (Chami de las Bouedgitas). 4 - Turn left onto Chemin de l'Arbre and continue to the butte de l'Arbre. Return right on Chemin de l'Arbre. 5 - Turn left on Chemin des Fontaines (Chami de las Founts). 6 - Turn right onto Chemin des Pieux (approx. 80 m after the fountains), then right to return to the hillock.

Not to be missed in the church. The monumental replicated organ of Arnstadt on which J S Bach played. Inaugaurated in 2004, visits are held in the summer and during the internationally renowned festival 'Bach in Combrailles' held in the second week of August. The church dates back to the 19th century. It owes its fame to "The Bach Organ", a replica of the organ in Arnstadt in Thuringia (Germany), one of the few Baroque organs of which Bach was the first owner at the age of 18. Inaugurated in 2004, tours of the organ are organised in July and August. The "Bach in Combrailles" Festival (second week of August) is an opportunity to introduce the music of Bach to the inhabitants of Combrailles and to visitors. The Archaeological House of Combrailles is an exhibition space which preserves and presents the archaeological heritage of the territory, thanks to an original and spacious scenography. 2025 new temporary exhibition "Bargoin in Combrailles" to discover! The permanent exhibition tells the story of "The Lanes and the Men", from the great Roman road Lyon-Saintes, created by Agrippa at the beginning of the 1st century, to the A89 motorway, passing through the royal roads in the 18th century. century. Discover many objects that cover 5,000 years of history, from the flint daggers discovered in the dolmen of Saint-Etienne-des-Champs to the Romanesque capitals of the village of Herment. An important Gallo-Roman collection comes from the excavations of the ancient road town of Beauclair with inscriptions unique in France, dedicated to Toutatis, Gallic god. A route can be completed via several fun terminals, and a circuit of five major sites nearby can be competed on request. In 2025, a new temporary exhibition, "Bargoin in Combrailles", brings together archaeological objects from the collections of the Bargoin museum in Clermont-Ferrand, historical partner of the Voingt museum. All these objects come from the Combrailles region and most are being exhibited for the first time. An opportunity to also talk about the pioneers of archeology in Combrailles.

At the top of the basalt hillock (ancient lava flow), a privileged panorama of the Massif du Sancy, the Chaîne des Puys and the Combrailles is offered to you, with a beautiful enamelled lava orientation table.

Built in the 19th century, it replaced an old ruined building, an outbuilding of the Chateau de la Mothe. Today it is attached to the village of La Vernède. Rebuilt thanks to donations from the inhabitants of the villages of La Vernède and Serre. It overlooks the Sagne Jurade pond and sometimes becomes home to an exhibition in the summer season.

This is a reconstruction of everyday life in the Combrailles at the beginning of the 20th century. Costumes, school, old trades, are all on display in traditional houses restored for the purpose. An arrowed pathway allows you to discover people and tools of another era. As you walk around the village you will come accross old farm equipment and characters from a different era as wezll as the reconstruction of a school from yesteryear , includingl documents of the time. Extend the visit with a stroll along the Sioule and Chancelade rivers, to Rochecivière.

A Classified historical monument built in the 12th century with a classified portal. Particularities: a mixture of Auvergnat and Limosin style in sloping construction. An imposing staircase of 15 steps gives access to the nave. The largest collegiate church in the Auvergne. Built in the 12th century by the Count of Auvergne Robert III, this church was part of an imposing fortress which has today disappeared. This vast building is marked by many influences of the nearby Limousin. The western portal still has its original hinges. The walk along the walls offers superb views of the Combrailles and the volcanoes of the Massif du Sancy. A children's playground allows a fun and pleasant break. Built on an ancient volcanic flow in inversion of relief, the walk along the walls of Herment takes up the old parapet walk of the great medieval enclosure. Although the castle has now disappeared, the walker will be able to discover the remarkable Romanesque collegiate church. This small church, situated on a promontory, has a chevet characteristic of the Auvergne Romanesque. Adjacent to the church, the "snail shell" cemetery, at the top of the hillock, is an original feature of this site. It was built in 1147. Behind the church, one can still see the ruins of the castle (12th-13th century). Guillaume de Beaufort donated his right of sacristy on this church to the cathedral chapter of Clermont-Ferrand when he left for the crusades. This building presents a certain homogeneity of architecture although it was built in several stages.
