This route invites you on an initiatory journey by one of Western France’s most prestigious natural sites: the Roche d’Oëtre. This magnificent loop unveils a number of surprising landscapes, from the meanders of the Rouvre to the shaded country paths between Rapilly and Pierrepont, and via the Hère valley.

This short route is the ideal introduction to mountain biking in Suisse Normande. The Noireau river is the main thread running through the entire route. The first track, wide and flat, will allow you to warm up with a slope that gradually steepens to reach Cahan. You then switch to the Hameau des Planches following a technical descent. The terrain then rises to reach Saint-Marc-d'Ouilly, ending gently at Pont-d'Ouilly with a magnificent view over the Orne valley. The route begins with a comfortable warm-up on a gradual slope towards Ménil-Hubert-sur-Orne. You'll then plunge into the twisting meanders of the Rouvre river, and set off on the arduous slope towards Roche d'Oëtre. After a chance to explore the site, you'll head back towards the Rouvre and Saint-Philbert-sur-Orne. From Le Mesnil-Villement onwards, the landscape is more open, with wide paths offering magnificent panoramic views. Return to Pont-d'Ouilly along the technical descent of the Cambuse. After a climb to the hamlet of Plainville, the rapid descent to the stream forks off onto a very playful trail for over a kilometer, trail sensations guaranteed! We find the Hère again as we cross it to begin the return to Pont-d?Ouilly, which brings this ideal course to a close, perfect for practising climbs and descents! This hilly route, punctuated by two climbs and several hamlet crossings, takes in a wide variety of paths from Pont d'Ouilly, with the River Noireau as its backbone. The start of the circuit can be used as a warm-up before the first ascent on a short forest path that will put the cardio and calves to work. This is followed by a long descent through the forest back to the river Noireau. After crossing the river once again, the second ascent takes you up a long, open country lane, offering a fine view of the rolling countryside above Pont d'Ouilly. The return journey is a final rolling descent, with the finish point visible below. The profile will then be quite varied, with plateaus, regular ascents/descents and steeper ones? enough to change pace as you adapt to the terrain. Along fields or streams, in undergrowth, you'll enjoy a variety of landscapes. This long outing will take you from beautiful vantage points to some surprisingly technical sections. Return to La Roche d'Oëtre from Pont d'Ouilly. The first 5 km out-and-back will allow you to warm up before descending to Rouvrou to follow the eponymous meanders. You'll then climb back up to the Roche d'Oëtre site, where you'll follow the site's playful trails. You'll ride over varied, undulating terrain before returning to the heights of Rouvrou to return to Pont d'Ouilly via the outward route. A rolling finish. A small, personal campsite on the edge of the Normandie Maine National Park, a site with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside and the village of Couterne. Situated on the main road between Lassay-les-Chateaux (Petites Cités de Caractère) and the spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne, on the border between the departments of Mayenne (Pays de la Loire) and Orne (Normandy). A warm welcome awaits explorers in caravans, motorhomes and tents, whether travelling with a motorised vehicle or on their own. Our pitches are spacious and bordered by hedges. On the old road to Brittany, the roof is an like upturned ship’s hull and the walls are frescoed by Le Scouezec, a Breton artist and tell the story of St Roch. There is an annual pilgrimage on the Sunday after 15 August (open air mass, procession across the fields, dogs especially welcomed)

Cossesseville church is under the patronage of Val Abbey, and dependent upon the Diocese of Bayeux since 1167. Originally located in the lower part of the parish town, the church was moved to another site, between the presbytery and the local lord’s house in 1729. In the cemetery that stands alongside the church, two graves are protected with a roof and a grey marble table upon which coats of arms are engraved on the church wall: this is in fact a 19th century monument dedicated to two people who had demonstrated virtue and charity. The Virgin and Child placed on the table represents the patron saint of soldiers. It was erected on the 16th of August 1873 by Marie de Gonneville, Countess of Mirabeau.
