Discover Liverdun's Wonders with De la Moselle les Boucles

This fortified mediaeval city overlooks one of the loops of the Moselle. It was once the summer residence of the Bishops of Toul. The high part of the town boasts a wealth of heritage that visitors can explore on a visual and interactive route. Follow the “madeleine route” (a local speciality) and discover seven iconic signposts, and scan 14 QR codes on the sides of houses to get architectural details.

On this route, which can be followed in both directions over 18 km, you will be able to enjoy a cycle path on the banks of the Meurthe and Moselle, in a bucolic setting bursting with heritage and industrial treasures. Along the way, discover Place Stanislas and the Parc de la Pépinière, the Meurthe, the Douëra cultural centre and the medieval town of Liverdun.

Le Bois Saint-Ignon: A 6.8 km trail through woods and other areas for exploring, making for a varied itinerary. It is also a smooth and easy circuit for mountain bikes. It is also pleasant for horse riding, but there’s a dangerous crossing of the D907. Cense Saint Paul: 6.5 km trail. On foot, this is a lovely walk with many glimpses of the village of Saizerais and even the Mousson hillock to the north. Explore this walking and cycling path, a bucolic 19.5-km-long stabilised sand route created along a former railway. It begins in Custines at the end of the Rue Claude Le Lorrain cul-de-sac, which has around twenty parking spaces, and currently ends in Nomeny. It runs through the lovely Mauchère valley, which takes its name from the little 8-km-long stream that runs through Custines, Malleloy, Faulx and Montenoy. The rolling countryside offers viewpoints over the orchards, fields, villages and woods. This “Voie Verte” path takes you on a discovery tour of local rural animals, including sheep, cows and horses. In fact, there is a strong probability that you will come across riders on the section that is open to them, near to the Diapason and Paquis stables in Faux.

The Moselle rises in the Vosges mountains at the Col de Bussang, but is actually the result of the merger of several streams originating in the Vosges mountains. It flows into the Rhine at Koblenz in Germany. Its total length is 560 kilometers, of which 314 kilometers are in France. The Moselle has been used as a waterway since Gallo-Roman times, enabling Roman battles against the Celts and the transport of salt produced in the Seille region. Throughout the Middle Ages, navigation was in full swing. Then, in the 16th and 17th centuries, navigation on the Moselle disappeared. At most, it was used to float timber from the Vosges. Today, the Moselle is a busy commercial river, particularly between Frouard and Luxembourg. Yachting harbors and secondary branches, however, provide shelter from the traffic. On the outskirts of Nancy, the landscape of wooded hills is very pleasant.

This tourist circuit showcases water through the ages on a tour of Haut-Lay and its history. Lay-Saint-Christophe is nicknamed the village of a thousand fountains. It is also the birthplace of Saint Arnou and his illustrious descendants. The Voie Bleue cycle route leaves Nancy on a beautiful green corridor along the Meurthe and canal. You reach the Moselle via the junction canal, where you'll find the magnificent Montaigu park and château. Once back on the Moselle, the cycle route continues towards Charmes in a wild, bucolic setting. Freewheel along the towpath of the Canal des Vosges, crossing the canal bridge at Flavigny-sur-Moselle.

Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

Rich in the Gallo-Roman past of Arlon, the museum houses an impressive collection that bears witness to the daily life of this period.One of the peculiarities of the museum is its imposing and rich lapidary collection, composed of several dozen fragments of ancient funerary monuments.These blocks and the objects from Roman craftsmanship will teach you more about daily life at that time.

The grounds of Château Corbin are located on the ramparts of the former mediaeval city. It’s a great place to relax and soak up the stunning views, under the shade of ancient trees, over the Moselle loop and the Domaine des Eaux Bleues.

This understated former collegiate church with its Romanesque architecture was built in the late 12th century, on the cusp of the transition between the Romanesque and Gothic eras. It was listed as a historic monument in 1924. Built on the site of an older chapel, it houses the tomb of Saint Eucharius. The organ, listed in 1984 and restored in 1999, was manufactured in 1847 by Claude Ignace Callinet and has a total of 23 stops. The paintings, also listed, date from the 18th century.

This episcopal residence was built in 1717 by Blouët de Camilly, bishop of Toul, on the site of the canons' "Grande Maison". The listed porch dates from the 16th century. Today, the building houses the Maison du Tourisme et des Savoir-Faire du Bassin de Pompey. Inside, enjoy a remarkable view of the Moselle River.

A medieval fortified town overlooking a curve of the Moselle, Liverdun was the summer residence of the Bishops of Toul. Its history is writ large on its remarkable monuments and sites, including the Porte Haute or high gate, the old 12th century collegiate church of Saint-Pierre, the old 18th century priory, the Château Corbin and its grounds, the wash-house, Renaissance façades and the Place de la Fontaine with its 16th century arcades.

This is the former 12th-century gateway to the town's castral enclosure, which has preserved its embrasures, the portcullis slide and the grooves of the drawbridge that disappeared in 1702 to make way for a dormant bridge. The gate was probably modified in the 16th century by Bishop Toussaint d'Hocédy. It is flanked on the west by a rectangular watchtower and on the east by a round tower known as the Gabion, recently restored.

Calcareous grassland planted on the Bajocian limestone of the Moselle coast. Its steep slope and southern exposure create arid, sunny conditions that favor the presence of southern plants and insects. Best time to visit: May and June. The site is protected by the Conservatoire des Sites Lorrains and belongs to the commune of Aingeray.

Terrouin is the river's name responsible for the capture of the Moselle 300,000 years ago. Located at Villey-Saint-Etienne, Terrouin is a Sensitive Natural Area managed by the General Council of Meurthe-et-Moselle. 30 km long, this valley is a place of a variety of natural environments: wetlands, old quarries, limestone lawns, pools, ... where each of them are a special area for the refuge of many animal and plant species.

The calvary next to the Belvédère de Saizerais Known as the Barnard Cross, it was a mistake when the calvary was named, Macaron on the calvary for surveyors and levelling, 264m altitude "Le nivellement général de la France (NGF) is a vertical reference network made up of over 350,000 levelling benchmarks whose altitude is precisely determined. Most of the time, these markers are metal studs about ten centimetres in diameter, set into walls or engineering structures" (Institut nationale de l'information géographique et forestière). During the French Revolution, religious objects were removed, and Louis XVIII re-evangelized the calvary. The Chemin de Saint-Jacques passes just behind the belvedere. Pilgrims pass through the interior of the town, then follow this path all the way to Liverdun.

Situated on a spur, the remains of the castle overlook the towns of Frouard and Pompey, with stunning views across the Meurthe and Moselle. Although little remains of the 13th-century castle (round tower and foundation stones) – which was destroyed in the 17th century by order of Richelieu – the site has recently been redeveloped to give visitors an idea of its original structure and scale. Visitors can explore the fortress site and remains on their own.

Situated at the foot of the medieval village of Liverdun, the campsite is on the banks of the Moselle, not far from a water sports center. It is ideally located in the center of Lorraine. The campsite is accessible to people with reduced mobility and is equipped with a restaurant, a grocery store and a swimming pool: trilingual reception (French, English, German). Open from April 26 to October 01

The campervan park is located next to the campsite. There are 5 parking spaces, as well as an emptying site for waste.

Gîte located in the heart of the medieval village of Liverdun at the foot of Château Corbin, with views of the Côte au Laye from the balcony. Here, you can discover the charm of the village and stroll along the Moselle river loops, halfway between Toul, Pont-A-Mousson and Nancy. The 120 m² gîte is located in a semi-detached house. It can accommodate up to 6 people and has 2 bedrooms, including a large 17 m² suite.

Lovely, cosy 35 m2 studio on the first floor of a house in the heart of the historic village of Liverdun, with kitchenette and terrace overlooking the forest. The studio is accessed via an airlock where you can leave your shoes and jackets. The studio comprises a room with two areas, one with the bed, and the other with a kitchen, dining area and small living room. A bathroom with WC is adjacent to this room. Access to the dwelling is atypical. You enter via the garage, a former bowling alley. The house is a former guinguette. Once you've passed through the garage, you'll have your own entrance to the studio, independent of the rest of the house. Part of the terrace is reserved for you. You'll sometimes catch a glimpse of the owners when they access the garden below the terrace, especially when they take their little dog out for a walk.

La Tuilerie is a small 25 m2 gîte located between forests and the Moselle in Liverdun, a picturesque medieval village. It is close to a host of hiking trails in Liverdun, including the GR5 and the Boucle de la Moselle, a complete loop punctuated by the three major stops of Liverdun, Nancy and Toul, offering 85 km of cycle paths with a variety of landscapes. The location of the gîte also lends itself to visiting numerous nearby sites that can be reached in less than 1.5 hours, such as Nancy, Toul, Pont-à-Mousson, Metz, Verdun and Luxembourg.

Villey-St-Etienne welcomes you to its 2 stopping places: "Le Terrouin" and "Le Village". They have neither water nor electricity, but picnic areas are available. Two restaurants are available: Le Pavillon Bleu and Le Jardin des Saveurs. Boaters can explore the village and its many attractions: strolls and hikes around the Vieux Canton Fort and the Terrouin Valley, or discover the village's Maison Forte.
