The Petit-Rhône is an arm of the Rhône delta which marks the administrative boundary between the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Occitanie regions, between the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône (13) and Gard (30) and a more symbolic way between the Gard Camargue and the Grande Camargue. It separates from the Grand-Rhône north of Arles to join the Mediterranean Sea near Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

Lauricet wood is one of the rare wooded areas of the Camargue. The remaining woods are generally along the river, which provides them with the fresh water they need. These woods constitute important habitats for local fauna.

Edifiée à la fin du XIIe siècle, l’abbatiale est un véritable joyau architectural. Once a popular destination for pilgrims from all over the world, the monument is now listed as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela in France" series. Take the time to admire its sculpted façade, an authentic masterpiece of Romanesque art. You will find a frieze with an iconography dedicated to the Passion of Christ. Discover its monumental crypt, a real low church. Exceptional for its size and the quality of its vaults, it still contains the tomb of Saint Gilles. The abbey is a Unesco World Heritage Site.

On the course you will be able to see guardian huts. A traditional Camargue dwelling, the cabin has whitewashed walls and a sagne roof (marsh reeds). The architecture of these cabins is original: straight walls on all sides except the one exposed to the mistral (north-west) which has an apse (rounded in shape) to provide less wind resistance. At the top of this apse, there is usually a cross or a horn that once served to secure the hut to the ground on windy days. The oldest dwellings in the Camargue, which have persisted to this day, are these typical huts, called gardian huts, wrongly because they were used for farmers, shepherds and fishermen alike. Nowadays, they are built for the pleasure of living in a house of tradition.

In the arid Causses of Larzac to the north and Blandas to the south, the river Vis has carved out an impressive green furrow, dominated at its heart by a hill. This is the Cirque de Navacelles, a geological curiosity shaped by 600,000 years of patient labor. Straddling the departments of Gard and Hérault, the Vis river has carved out its bed in the limestone of the southern causses (Blandas and Larzac), forming vast meanders. Over time, erosion of the rock has enabled the river to cut its course as short as possible, abandoning its former bed. Thus was born the Cirque de Navacelles. To discover it in its entirety, don't miss the 300m-deep descent to the bottom of the cirque. Here, in a green oasis on the banks of the Vis waterfall, lies the village of Navacelles. A botanical trail, accessible to all, has been laid out here. Today, the cirque de Navacelles is a member of the Grands Sites de France, and boasts over 250,000 visitors a year. Since 2011, it has been nestled in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site (Causse & Cévennes). The heritage of the Cirque de Navacelles Grand Site The joint work of man and nature, the former has used all its power to sculpt the material and shape the site's geological outlines, while the latter has patiently created the "finishing touches": built islands, roads, bridges and paths, low walls supporting the terraces, all at the cost of laborious work to shape the relief. The Cirque de Navacelles Grand Site boasts a magnificent heritage of archaeology, geomorphology and agropastoralism. Hiking and outdoor activities The Grand Site du Cirque de Navacelles is a territory where nature and heritage reveal themselves to those who take the time to observe, listen and smell... Free walks are a wonderful way to discover the fauna and flora, as well as the heritage: lavognes, pastoral enclosures, old bread ovens... THE BELVEDERES OF BLANDAS Situated just 3 minutes from the village of Blandas, the belvederes offer three breathtaking viewpoints over the Cirque de Navacelles and the Vis gorges. The Maison de Site houses a tourist documentation area, a permanent exhibition on agropastoralism, a film showing archaeological discoveries made on the Causse and in the Cirque de Navacelles, a local produce store and a restaurant serving local produce. The facilities are accessible to the disabled. Since July 2013, the "Chênes", "Doline" and "Cascade" lookouts on the Causse de Blandas offer visitors an overview of the grandiose geomorphology of the Cirque de Navacelles and establish a respectful dialogue between Man and Earth. Gîte d'étape in the heart of the Cévennes National Park, south of Mont Aigoual, between Cévennes peaks and valleys, an immense wilderness awaits you. On foot, by bike, by motorcycle...for a stopover or a holiday, you're welcome at mas Corbières. This typical Cévennes mid-mountain hamlet is perched at 600 meters altitude, at the end of the Notre Dame de la Rouvière valley, in the Cévennes National Park, classified in 2018 as an international starry sky reserve. It offers a 180° south-facing view, terraced meadows inviting you to relax, a river for swimming, and a wide variety of hiking trails. Antoine and Gabrielle have been welcoming you here for 30 years. Both mountain guides, they can advise you on your hiking projects, family reunions, artist residencies and training courses. You can enjoy the nearby river, or rent a pack donkey for a day or more, and take a guided hike. Mas Corbières is a calm, enchanting place in the heart of nature, ideal for a change of scenery, a recharge of batteries and a creative outlet.

Located in the Borgne Valley, in the commune of Les Plantiers, our Fontfouillouse gîte welcomes you to an unspoilt valley at the foot of a 12th-century Romanesque church. In the midst of the Cévennes chestnut grove, we have created our group gîte. Our accommodation comprises a large living room/kitchen with direct access to the outside, and sleeping areas for up to 15 people. Ideally located, we open our house for a stopover on a hike or a longer stay, a weekend with family or friends. We look forward to welcoming you. Our table d'hôtes is available on reservation, as are products from the chestnut grove. Guided walks available. In summer, there's a supervised lake in the village and river swimming nearby.

From the ruins of the buildings of this former royal saltworks, easily accessible, but with authorization, you can access magnificent discovery trails on 4.5 kilometers of hiking trails. The three observatories and the trails are reserved for visitors with an authorization issued to La Capelière. Warning : Photography is regulated throughout the site. Dogs are not allowed on the site.

If the village only had its church and a few houses in the 19th century, it is at the center of a territory that includes the most beautiful farmhouses in the Camargue: the painted farmhouse, the Cazeau tower farmhouse. This sector specializes in the breeding of herds of bulls and the cultivation of rice, including organic rice. There is also an important private research center on the flora and fauna of the marshes, the biological station of the Tour du Valat.
