The e-bike is easy but careful downhill it can be pretty fast ! Why not be a little lazy for the uphill part and choose the bus along with your bicycle (only in summer). A way of getting to Lalouvesc and making the most of the journey down. Once in Saint-Vallier get on board the “Canotiers boat” (wooden boat) with your bike and enjoy a lovely cruise back to Tournon-sur-Rhône. From the village, follow the D532 signed up Saint-Félicien to Col du Marchand. 1. 4,9 km Fork left to Satillieu. 2. 13,4 km Go through the village heading towards Saint-Alban-d’Ay. 3. 15 km Follow directions to Ardoix and go into the village. 4. 25,2 km On leaving the village turn left at the roundabout signed up Cormes and follow the main axe going down to the Rhône Valley. 5. 33 km Turn left onto the D86 leading into Sarras. 6. 33,7 km Turn left and head towards Saint-Vallier. 7. 34,5 km Just before crossing the river Rhône, follow the ViaRhôna on the right returning to Tournon if you choose not to use the boat journey.

This trail takes you along the Doux river all the way, from its source to where it joins the Rhône. At the start , Col du Rouvey nestling amongst fir trees, takes you to the top of the valley. Picturesque villages like Désaignes or Boucieu le Roi, are worth seeing along the way. You can even board the Train de l'Ardèche steam train in Lamastre to finish your journey through the heart of the Doux Gorges. Follow the D532 from Lalouvesc going towards Saint Bonnet le Froid. 1 – 8.2 km Bear left onto the D228 towards Saint Pierre sur Doux. 2 – 11.1 km In Saint Pierre sur Doux continue ahead on the D228 as far as Désaignes going past Labâtie d’Andaure. 3 – 34.4 km In Désaignes turn left onto the D533 and carry on to Lamastre where you can board the train to finish off the trail.4 – 42.5 km In Lamastre turn left onto the D534 going to Annonay. 5 – 44.8 km Bear left onto the D578 to Arlebosc. 6 - 55 km As you come out of the village turn right and go down on the D209 towards Boucieu le Roi. 7 – 58.4 km Just before crossing the river Doux on the Pont du Roy bridge, 1km before Boucieu le Roi, continue ahead on the small road zigzagging along the valley floor. 8 - 64 km When you reach the railway station in Colombier le Vieux, turn left and go up to the main road. 9 – 64.5 km Carry on to the right on the D234 and enter into the Doux Gorges via the Pont des Etroits bridge.10 – 67.1 km Finish off the trail on the D534 taking you to Tournon sur Rhône.

There is one double bed (160/200) and a couch which can be changed into a single bed. Upstairs there are two single beds (90/190). Fruits des Bois means forest fruits. This room makes you want to go picking raspberries, blackberries and blueberries in the woods. View of the countryside. The architect was Pierre Bossan (Fourvière and Ars). Don’t miss the crypt at the ‘Montagne des Pardons’ (with its monuments and ex-votos), located on the site of the very first church dedicated to the saint. Behind the basilica, the Félix and Esther Oudin Centre houses a magnificent collection of modern sacred art (Maison Saint Régis). The Saint Régis Chapel and Museum offer an insight into the history of the ‘Walker of God’ and his era; the museum is interactive and very accessible, particularly for children, who are fascinated by Georges Serraz’s diorama. Désaignes is over 2000 years old and was in its prime in the Middle Ages. The village is still teeming with relics: the remnants of a 12th century fortress, a 14th century château, ramparts and 3 of the 4 gateways to the village. A walk through the medieval village centre allows visitors to discover several old houses, as shown by their ancient doors and windows. The origins of the village are very ancient. It was located on a Ligurians’ trail, known as the “merchants’ route”, which connected the Rhône Valley to the Ardèche mountains. Around 600 BC, the Greeks reached Désaignes, followed later by the Romans, whose presence is confirmed by the discovery of remains such as coins, thermal baths and villas. The village flourished during the Middle Ages thanks to the development of trade, crafts and the local bourgeoisie. It became one of the largest towns in Ardèche, with nearly 4,000 inhabitants at the time of the French Revolution. The history of the commune is closely linked to the Huguenots of Vivarais. As evidence of its Protestant heritage, a temple was built in 1608 and later destroyed in 1684. A second Protestant temple was partially funded and authorised by Louis XVIII in 1822. Listed since 1972, the old village forms a remarkable medieval ensemble surrounded by fortified walls pierced by three gates. A fourth gate was destroyed in 1841 during the construction of the current road outside the ramparts. The Bourg de l’Holme gate still preserves its machicolations and a small watchtower where the lookout once stood. The Janot gate is located near a tower considered to have been an old prison, still featuring arrow slits. The third gate, to the south, is called the Four Gate (or Fornate Gate) and is decorated with the coat of arms of the Retourtour family. The castle dates from the 14th century. Its keep already existed in 1319, when Lord Odon de Retourtour wrote his will there. The tower has preserved its defensive features, including battlements, crenellations and arrow slits. A 15th-century wrought iron gate, made without welding, is listed as a historic monument. Another building, known as the “Temple of Diana”, against which the Protestant temple was later built, is probably the first fortress dating back to the 12th century. This hilly area, with a strong rural tradition, offers an ideal setting for hiking, horse riding, botanical walks and nature discovery.

The Saint Régis Museum has a diorama of 19 paintings by Georges Serraz retracing the life of Saint Régis (1597-1640). The contemporary characters of Saint Regis and his travel card enables you to follow his adventure and to know his anecdotes till Lalouvesc. The last room recounts 400 years of Pilgrim story of Lalouvesc: it is one of the rare shrine in France, which shows the male-female parity (Sainte Thérèse Couderc and Saint Regis).
