It's a climb, welcome to Oisans! After the hamlet of Rosay, a haven of peace, you'll be rewarded with a short meadow crossing before descending a steep, bucolic path to the Sarenne gorges. The rest of the way is along the fishermen's path... Bucolic, we tell you! Or another detour to vary the itinerary) THINGS TO SEE ON THE ROUTE Saint-Pierre church and its sundial - The old Sarenne mill - Roman bridge - the Sarenne torrent Rosai chapel: the side window features a stained-glass window with three doves, created by Arcabas, a French painter and sculptor renowned in France and abroad, among other places, for his important output in the field of contemporary sacred art. INTERESTING FACTS -The inhabitants of La Garde are called gardillons and are one of the most vertical communes in France. - The commune is served by the T75 bus line linking Le Bourg-d'Oisans to l'Alpe d'Huez. INTERESTING FACTS - Just before reaching the Pont du Gua, you'll find the start of the Pierre Ronde via ferrata on your right. At the top you'll arrive on the route de Sarenne, not far from the Brandes archaeological site.

This short circular hike goes from one hamlet to another on the top of the cliffs of the Sarenne waterfall, before going up into the forest between l'Armentier and La Ville.

Between l'Armentier and Maronne, you'll climb through the forest under the watchful eye of trees and squirrels. Then a downhill path awaits you to return to La Ville, still in the beautiful and soothing Maronne forest... A truly beautiful walk! Every summer, the village sees a steady stream of "petite reine" enthusiasts on its slopes... In fact, the commune is home to 10 of the 21 bends that lead to Alpe d'Huez. After a few kilometers of unrivalled gradient, the slope becomes gentler as soon as you reach the bell tower of Saint-Pierre church.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION Departure: Bourg-d'Oisans bus station Height difference: 1237 m Round trip time: 6h50 (loop) Return distance: 14.6 km Level : Very difficult ITINERARY From the bus station, walk 100m towards Bourg d'Oisans town center on the main road (D1091b) to take rue Jean-Baptiste Gauthier (right) and pass the Maison du Parc. At the crossroads, follow signs for Villard-Reymond, turning right into rue St Antoine, then left into rue "Au-dessus du Bourg" to reach the Merlon. 1) Le Merlon (745 m) - 3 h 10 (4.8 km, D+ 930 m) After the Salle des Associations, follow a path along the torrent (right bank) without crossing it. Descend a flight of tire steps to cross a merlon (large artificial ditch designed to stop rock falls), then climb into the forest on the hairpin path. Pass the forest hut (alt. 1360 m, simple unenclosed shelter). Follow the signs and arrows (black on yellow). yellow background). After a meadow, take a wide path to the Col du Solude. 2) Col du Solude (1680 m) - 1 h (2.1 km, D+ 246 m) [Return trip possible (5 min) to Villard-Reymond]. After enjoying a fine view, take the north-western path leading to the Col de St Jean, just below the north-eastern slope of Prégentil. Climb to its summit (100 m D+ Orange points). 3) Prégentil (1938 m) - 1 h 45 (4.7 km, D+ 32 m, D- 918 m) Descend to Col de St Jean, then take the north-west path to cross the Tête des Fromentières meadow. Continue in the direction of Bourg d'Oisans: switch to the forest (heading northeast) and descend via a number of hairpins, first on the west-facing side of the ridge (with an easy cabled passage), then on the east-facing side. The descent continues through the forest on a path that crosses a track at 1270 m, before arriving at the clearing and ruins of Le Puy. 4) Le Puy (1040 m) - 35 min (1.7 km, D- 292 m) Descend to the point on the south path (right): once down to the Alberts torrent, ford it (go up 5m). 5) Le Merlon (745 m) - 10 min (0.7 km, D- 30 m) Return to the bus station via the Maison du Parc. Return to Bourg d'Oisans - Gare Routière (718 m)

If you'd like to explore the Bourg d'Oisans plain and the Allemond valley with a little height gain, on quiet roads with places for stopping and with fabulous view points, the route around the Lac du Verney is for you. ROUTE Leave Bourg d'Oisans on the D1091 towards Grenoble and turn right towards Allemond in Rochetaillée on the D526. Ride through the village and up to the Lac du Verney. Cross over the dam and ride the length of the lake (you'll see the Hydrelec Museum on this side) to a point just above the Pont Ratier bridge. This marks the beginning of a steep climb. After 650 m, turn left onto the Route du Villaret, which takes you more gently into the upper part of Allemond. Ride past the church and down towards the D526, where you turn right towards Bourg d'Oisans. There are two ways of getting back to Bourg d'Oisans. If you prefer to stay on the road, go back the way you came, but if you prefer a track, follow the mountain bike "XC 1" signs in Rochetaillée, which will take you back to Bourg d'Oisans on a track to the right of the road. Two weeks of active hiking, taking us to the foot of the highest summits in the southern Alps.From Le Bourg d'Oisans, the Tour of Oisans and Ecrins footpath begins its grand tour with the help of handrails to reach the small villages perched on the mountainside. It descends towards the Sarenne mountain stream and then goes up to the mountain pass, with a panorama over the Monts de Lans. We then go down towards Clavans and the Ferrand valley, before a fine climb as far as Besse-en-Oisans, at the edge of the vast Emparis plateau. Above, Col de Souchet offers a five-star view over the Meije. A descent of almost 1000 metres leads to La Grave. You then walk along the River Romanche as far as its source on the mountain pastures of Villar d'Arène. When you arrive at Col d'Arsine, the spectacle is astonishing. The mountainous setting is an invitation to visit the Arsine glacier lake before beginning our long descent along the Petit Tabuc mountain stream as far as the Guisane valley and Monêtier-les-Bains. Our destination is Vallouise via Col de l'Eychauda and the peaceful chalets of Chambran. 8 km of road along the Onde mountain stream bring us to the Jas Lacroix alpine pastures. Crossing Col de l'Aup Martin, the highest point in all the tour, is always rich in adventure, and the descent towards the Pré de la Chaumette is equally exciting. To reach Lake Vallonpierre and Valgaudemar, you have to take care crossing no less than three mountain passes carved out in the schist. Along the Séveraisse, the footpath joins La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar and then rises through Villar Loubière as far as the Souffles refuge and the impressive Col de la Vaurze. Equally impressive is the descent towards the unspoilt Valjouffrey. The rich green Col de Côte Belle contrasts with the schist landscapes we have seen until now. Valsenestre, in the Béranger valley, comes as a well-earned break before we set off for the last few twists and turns. We arrive at the vertical Col de la Muzelle, leading to the Vénéon. One last mountain pass takes us to the biggest lake in L’Oisans, the Lauvitel, and we are back in Le Bourg d'Oisans. We have come full circle!You can follow the GR® 54 footpath either from Le Bourg d'Oisans, L'Argentière, La Grave or from any other village along the way.

The Bourg d'Oisans plain is filled with magnificent hidden treasures along the cliffs of Le Bourg, continuing on through the Allemond plain and finally along the Romanche river. This loop will be a surprise and delight for cyclists. DESCRIPTION From the centre of Bourg d'Oisans, follow signs to the secondary school (Collège) and join the path that goes behind Les Alberts and the business park. The path is clearly signposted as far as Rochetaillée. Briefly join the Route d'Allemond before taking the clearly signposted path from Le Plan. Ride up to the Barrage du Verney dam and take the D44 road to the hamlets of La Voute and Le Rafour. Then follow the track back towards Bourg d'Oisans along the Romanche river. Fancy a gentle stroll along the water's edge? Follow the partly paved and wooded "voie verte" for a picnic by the Lac Bleu, then digest by continuing on to Lac de Buclet. Then finish off with a return trip along the Romanche. Enjoy the superb view of the Prégentil cliffs as you reach the Bourg-d'Oisans church, then continue along the route de St-Claude to the hamlet of Le Vert. The route then reaches the blue lake (natural color), where you can admire the fish under the rocks with mini waterfalls. Equipped with picnic tables, small wooden bridges and a large green area, it's a bucolic, family-friendly spot. Continue along the asphalt road, closed to cars, from Lac Bleu towards the Aiguille de Venosc. Following the source de la Rive, you'll come to the Lac de Buclet parking lot. Continuing on, you leave the voie verte to follow one of the paths around the lake. Its superb mirror effect is perfect for photos! For the return journey, return to the Lac de Buclet parking lot and take the path along the dyke for a loop back to the center of Le Bourg. At the end of a long straight stretch, the path runs alongside the Romanche river, with a beautiful view of the route des travers d'Auris, Alpe d'Huez and the Belledonne massif in the background. At the end of the path, cross the parking lot and turn left along Avenue Aristide Briand to return to the starting point. THINGS TO SEE ALONG THE WAY Parc de la mairie, Bourg-d'Oisans church, Lac Bleu, Lac de Buclet, La Romanche river, Prégentil cliffs, Belledonne massif, Source de la Rive, Aiguille de Venosc. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS Lac Bleu, Lac de Buclet, Cascade de la Pisse. NOTES - Lac Bleu is not open to fishing, as it is a fish farm reserve. The cascade de la Pisse is a 20-minute walk from Lac de Buclet along the voie verte. -The trail is suitable for all-terrain baby carriages. -The trail can be explored by bike or on horseback.

Most of this ride is fluid, allowing you explore the hidden side of the Bourg-d'Oisans plane. The return along the left bank is a more technical and physical cross-country ride. Itinerary from the "VTT en Oisans" guide (Oisans Tourisme) Start/finish (loop) : Bourg d'Oisans 720 m Duration : 2 h Distance: 14 km Highest point: 792 m Lowest point: 720 m Ascent: 140 m Negative ascent: -140 m Technique: 1/4 Endurance: 1/4 Map: Top 25 Les 2 Alpes - Olan - Muzelle 3336 ET. ITINERARY Start in front of the Bourg-d'Oisans tourist office, head towards the post office and turn left after it, following signs for Villard-Notre-Dame. At the foot of the climb to Villard-Notre-Dame, take the small road on the left. Follow the GR 50-54 towards Le Vert. Continue straight ahead until you reach the dike. Once on the dike, to avoid the track, you can take the small path on the right that goes into the undergrowth. At the end of the path, you'll find the main track again. Follow the GR 50-54 to the right as far as the Cascade de la Pisse... Here, take a short break to admire the waterfall. Continue over the small footbridge. Follow the path back to the main track. Turn left towards Bourg d'Oisans. You'll come to a ford. Depending on the season, this ford is more or less submerged by small streams. These can be crossed by bike or on foot... it's an adventure! Continue straight on to Lac de Buclet, the second attraction on this trail. Go around the lake to the right, then at the end, turn left into the forest, following the signs [XC 2] in the wrong direction. As you approach the dike, which you can make out through the trees, watch out for a path on the right which takes you directly up to the dike, avoiding the 4x4 track. Once on the dam, turn right... Straight on for 1.5 km. At the end, a track on the left leads down from the dike. Take the path that goes into the forest on the right. Turn right onto the road leading to Bourg d'Oisans. On this small road, which is more popular with walkers than cars, you'll pass several paddocks for ponies, donkeys and horses... a delight for children. GOOD TO KNOW: Don't set off too late for this itinerary. On the outward journey, the route skirts the cliffs behind Bourg d'Oisans very closely, and quickly moves into the shade. For your information, the Cascade de la Pisse begins to be in the shade from 3pm in mid-July.

This is a lovely circular ride, ideal for families, around the Bourg d'Oisans plain. In Rochetaillée, the remains of a Roman road, carved high up out of the rock, are a reminder that a lake, the Saint-Laurent, covered this plain 800 years ago. Route in "MTB in Oisans" guide (Oisans Tourisme) Departure/Arrival (loop): Bourg d'Oisans 720 m Length: 3 hours Distance: 18 km Highest point: 749 m Lowest point: 711 m Total height gain: +148 m Total height loss: -148 m Technique: 0/4 Endurance: 1/4 Map: Top 25 Bourg d'Oisans and l'Alpe d'Huez 3335 ET ROUTE Set off from the Bourg-d’Oisans tourist office, following signs for Grenoble. Ride past the bus station and after a further 400 m, turn left following signs for the «Four Cross». Turn right at La Molière and follow signs for Rochetaillée. Cross through the hamlet of La Paute. The road then turns into a track, the «Chemin Romain», until Rochetaillée. Once in Rochetaillée, look at the rock on the left for the surprising remains of the Roman road, built higher up due to the lake that filled the plain at this time. Several sections are still visible over a 300 m stretch. The well dug-out rock forms a 2.2 meter wide arch. Regularly spaced grooves show where a series of beams were positioned to support a wooden deck used to widen the road. This considerable construction work bears witness to the strategic importance of the Oisans road in Roman times, as it was the road that linked Gaul to Italy. In Rochetaillée, turn left onto the D1091 for just a few dozen metres, before turning right onto the «Chemin de Planche Ronde» to the «Pont Rouge». Cross over the bridge and carry on up to the junction, where you turn right towards Villard Reculas as far as Le Raffour (at the bottom of the hill). Turn right in Le Raffour and carry straight on to the dyke. Just after reaching the dyke, take a path to the left towards the Ruines de Vieille Morte. This somewhat sinister name refers to the «dead» arm of one of the many meanders of the Romanche River. In the last century, around 50 people lived in Vieille Morte and an inn provided a stopover for the inhabitants of the Olle Valley travelling to the Bourg-d’Oisans fairs and markets. Carry straight on to the «3 Ponts», followed by the hamlet of Basset, where you join up with the road. Follow it up to the junction with the road leading up to Alpe d’Huez. Take special care here as cars can come down quickly and visibility is not particularly good. Turn right back to Bourg-d’Oisans.

Types of use: cross-country skiing (classic and skating) and snowshoeing. - An 8 km loop, called the Loop de la Rochette, starting from the resort. Atmosphere: vast expanses of snow face the Alpe d'Huez resort and the peaks of the Grandes Rousses massif, including the Pic Blanc. The Jandri takes you up to 3,200 meters in just 17 minutes from the center of the resort. Made up of two sections, the Jandri takes you first to 2,600 m and then to 3,200 m. At 3,200 m, a panoramic restaurant awaits you for a delicious break with stunning views. You can then continue up to 3,400 m via the funicular and discover the “Destination 3400” experience.

This cable car links Venosc village to the 2 Alpes ski resort in only 8 minutes! Less than 100 metres after the start of the GR54 footpath, you arrive at an impressive waterfall. In the 17th century, monks in the parish made a sundial calculated in accordance with the latitude, longitude and orientation of the south wall of St Peter's Church. This became known as "The Watch" by local residents. This is one of the oldest sundials in Oisans, dating from 1677 (slightly later than the 1669 sundial in Venosc). Renovated in 2000, a correction table enables the exact time to be calculated as indicated by the sun at any time of the year.

Although mentioned for the first time in documents in 1058, Saint Peter's Church is almost certainly older. Its very good current condition conceals this fact, especially following recent renovation work to replace the damaged belfry. We know from the archives that La Garde held an important position in the parishes of Oisans in the Middle Ages, as it had a castle mound (typically a mediaeval defence structure), two towers and a stronghold. The position of the church bears witness to its age, since churches were traditionally built on a rocky outcrop or promentory in order to be both seen and heard. Indeed, the sound of ringing bells had to travel far to reach the peasants in the Alpine pastures or other villages. Having survived for centuries, the church has undergone a number of changes, since architectural digs have revealed an earlier building and graves. In April 2013, the wooden belfry supporting the bells was replaced and a bell ringing the note "D" was added! A sundial can be seen on the southern face.

The Bourg d'Oisans plain was hollowed out over the centuries by glaciers, before being filled by sediment from rivers that formed a lake, called the Lac St-Laurent. On several occasions over a very long period, this wide valley has been a lake. The Bourg d'Oisans basin is characteristic of the erosion and accumulation that occurred at the end of the tertiary and quaternary eras due to the glacial waters that dissected the mountainous mass, reducing it to a network of crests. The successive lakes and deposits of rivers filled the valley with sediment, but the glacial rock bar was backed up by another rock bar formed by two alluvial cones from mountain streams opposite the current Pont de la Véna bridge (just outside Livet on the way to Grenoble). Upstream, the Romananche river formed a lake, the Lac St-Laurent, which was regularly emptied. Bourg d'Oisans was then called Saint-Laurent du Lac. Prior to 1091, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact date as to when the lake was formed, although mentions of it have been found in documents dated 1058. In 1191, the Infernet was the scene of a terrible drama, when a substantial rock fall and landslide completrly blocked the flow of the Romanche, creating an insurmountable barrier. This caused the lake to spread to over 18 km in length, submerging the plain under 10 m of water. St Laurent du bord du Lac completely disappeared under the water and all the local inhabitants had to flee their homes, seeking safety on higher ground. According to some documents, the water rose to a level of 741 m above sea level. 28 years later, on 14 September 1219, the dam suddenly burst, creating a catastrophic flood that reached as far as Grenoble (known as the "Flood of Grenoble") killing some 5,000 people. The natural dam had given way under the sheer weight of the water and an enormous volume of water rushed into the gorge with the violence of a hurricane, sweeping away everything in its path, whether trees, fields or whole villages... Although smaller in size, the lake continue to exist for another three centuries, sometimes increasing in volume, as on 4 August 1465 after a terrible summer storm. In 1429, it was recorded that the lake had dried up, only to return at a later date. In 1540, reduced to a "puddle", it finally disappeared... Over the following centuries, the Romanche wended its way through the plain, causing regular floods. In the 18th century, dykes were built to contain the river and the plane was drained using the grid system that now makes for an original landscape. Once the plain had been restored, plans were made to clean it up and grow crops. Back in the 13th century, just after the 1219 catastrophe, the village of St Laurent became the centre of interest for all the local population and villages. Here you are in Bourg-d'Oisans at an altitude of 700m: all around you are mountains and underfoot is the plain. This landscape has been shaped over thousands of years at the same time as the Alps were being created. The mountains you see, and the plain you walk on, are the consequences of shifting continents, the major ice ages and the subsequent warming. Humans have also helped shape this landscape over the last few centuries, adapting to and taking advantage of natural and geological constraints. The dammed rivers and the network of drainage canals, for example, have allowed the habitat to expand and agriculture to develop in the plain, creating a mountain "bocage" with fields and hedges. However, these actions have never eradicated certain natural hazards, such as avalanches and rockfalls. Half-wild and half-tamed, this landscape and its features are home to a multitude of animal and plant species, some of which are protected. Lake St Laurent: when the Vénéon-Romanche glacier retreated, it stagnated in the lower valley and a lake of more than 5,000 hectares then occupied the entire valley from Bourg-d'Oisans to Allemond. The alluvium deposited by the Romanche and the Vénéon gradually plugged up the lake and filled in the plain to a depth of 500m. In fact, if it weren't for the lake, which gradually filled in, the village would only be at an altitude of 200m! Bourg-d'Oisans is now a delightful little town of international renown where mountain lovers come, both in summer and winter, to stay and enjoy the many activities on offer!

The Musée des Minéraux has become the Galerie des Trésors Alpins (GALTA). It has undergone a makeover, taking you on a journey through 3 universes: crystals, treasures of the Oisans, an immersive journey to the heart of Alpine fauna and the new "Oisans in the eye of the comics" trail. The richness of its mineralogical collection and the dynamic staging of the wildlife area make it a wonderful place to discover the natural and cultural heritage of the Oisans. The museum is a member of the Route des Savoir-Faire de l'Oisans. Guided tours led by the Centre de Géologie de l'Oisans, the Parc des Écrins and members of the "Club des Cristalliers" are available on reservation in July and August. The world : L'OISANS AUX QUATRE SAISONS A sensory show (images and sounds) that takes visitors on a twenty-minute audio narrative explaining the life of Oisans wildlife according to the seasons and their layering in the great landscape. In partnership with the Ecrins National Park, the show raises awareness of the need to respect natural spaces and the animals that frequent them. This immersive show was created with the help of Jean-Marc Rochette, a comic strip artist who is very involved in the Oisans region. As a result, the trail is imbued with a unique poetic and sensory atmosphere. The trail is available in French and English. CRYSTAL, A TREASURE OF THE OISANS A brand-new heritage trail showcases the region's most emblematic crystals: Epidote, quartz, axinite, anatase and siderite have all found their home! Beautifully illustrated by Clara Debray's drawings and Éric Savoldelli's comic strips, this new tour also features a host of audio-visuals, podcasts and sensory walks. Structured around five themes, the tour explores the links between man and nature, the fascination of the "great landscape", the adaptations required to cope with the rigours of the territory, and the challenges that drive people to surpass themselves, not forgetting the "great firsts" of the pioneers who left their mark on the Oisans with their sensational adventures. Located at 2,268 m, this small unguarded refuge with no water, electricity or toilet is a call to adventure! Facing due south, it is located in the Écrins National Park, on the path leading to the Rochail summit. PRESENTATION Perched at an altitude of 2,268 meters, the Refuge des Sources is a small, unguarded 20 m² hut nestled in the Ecrins National Park, in the commune of Villard-Notre-Dame. Approximately 3 hours' walk from the village, it overlooks the Vallon torrent and offers a breathtaking view of the Oisans. This communal refuge, with its rustic authenticity, is an ideal stopover for backpackers or mountain lovers in search of adventure. A lovely mountain hut near Mizoën at an altitude of 1515 m. A stopover on the GR50 54C tour of the Ecrins and the start of numerous hikes on the Emparis plateau. Close to the petrifying Cascade de la Pisse waterfall, the via ferrata and a climbing route. Superb views of the Meije. From the car park at Les Aymes, follow the path marked in red and white (variant of the GR 54 path): the balcony trail makes its way above the Lac du Chambon before climbing up across the meadows. From there, hikers can either follow the discovery trail to the right that joins the refuge (adding ½ hour) or carry straight on to Les Clots. The walk and hut have been awarded the "Espit Parc" label and are perfect for families and people looking for peace and quiet and to reconnect with their inner selves! Along the way, and near the refuge, depending on the time of your visit, you may see marmots, chamois and butterflies, and depending on the season, feast your eyes and nose with lavender and orange lilies. You’ll also have a chance to admire the waterfalls above the hut, gushing out of a petrified fountain, forming lumps of tuf. The site is under a biotope protection order, so please stay on the path to avoid damaging this geological wonder.

At 2100 meters, the refuge of La Pra, close to the many clear lakes of the Massif Belledonne, will delight anglers, hikers and families. La Pra is also a wonderful pasture where you can encounter marmots, wild sheep and ibex. The refuge is a stopover on the GR 738 from Chamrousse. The surrounding peaks are often accessible in summer, either on footpaths or "off-track" for those who prefer less frequented areas (Vaudaine, Doménon, Croix de Belledonne sectors), as soon as the snow has disappeared. You are entering a Natura 2000 protected area where swimming in rivers and lakes is strictly prohibited. From the Pré Raymond parking lot, take the forest road, then a path to the left (south-east). A few hairpin bends bring you to an almost level path leading out of the forest. Cross the stream before reaching the dam and Lac du Crozet. Follow the path along the lake and up the Vallon de Mercier to the Col de la Pra. At the col, turn right (south) and descend to the refuge, 5 minutes from the col de la Pra. From Chamrousse, from the parking lot at the foot of the Grande Aiguille, follow the GR de Pays, then pass between the lakes (GR 738). Climb slightly before descending into the combe de l'Echaillon. Turn left onto the path leading to the Oursière waterfalls, then right onto the path leading to Lac David. Climb up to Lac Léama, then on to Lac Longet and Lac Claret. Climb up to the refuge. From the Recoin de Chamrousse, take the GR 738 to Lac Robert. Then follow the same route as the Croix de Chamrousse.

In 1967, it was in the rocky cirque that the community built the refuge on the shore of Muzelle lake.

From this Hamlet, take direction "Refuge de la Muzelle" after the small bridge. Follow the winding path leading to the ruins of Pleney. The path continues near the torrent until "Clot du Stella".
