Camping Les Eymes: Adventures in Meaudre, Isère

This circular route follows quiet roads from Autrans to Méaudre at the northern end of Vercors natural park. With low gradients, this route is ideal for the whole family. Start in Thorénas and head towards Les GOnnets hamlet. Then turn left towards Méaudre. In Méaudre, turn left towards Les Gerboux, past Piaillon, then turn right towards Autrans. Continue along the the D106C via Andrévière to Les Gonnets, then Thorénas. This short circular route through pretty countryside gives way to a breathtaking panorama from Molière ridges and a more discreet natural curiosity - a blowhole in Méaudre.

A very challenging and varied route in terms of terrain and scenery. It overlooks the Gorges de la Bourne under the summit of Gros Martel. Return via the Via Vercors and the Méaudret.

An easy walk where you will discover the meadows of the Autrans-Méaudre-en-Vercors valley and its stone paths.

This route is not very technical, you pass through the 2 villages, several hamlets and discover a small part of the Via Vercors.

A challenging route to enjoy the fun green "les feuilles" descent. After taking the Via Vercors, in the direction of Autrans, return via the Bois de Claret and the Croix des Albans to reach Méaudre.

An easy walk where you can enjoy beautiful views of the village of Méaudre. You will also discover the Balme farm with architecture typical of the Vercors heritage.

A challenging and technical route with an ascent via tracks and paths. Beware of the technical descent to La Pierre de l'Eau. More fun at the bottom. Return via the Via Vercors.

This FFC signposted route will take you across the Plateau de La Molière, a large high-altitude pasture which during the summer is home to many herds of cows. Magnificent views of the French Alps as far as Mont Blanc.

Immerse yourself in the heart of the forest of Coulmes, on the paths formerly frequented by the "Charbonniers" formerly very present on this massif. Departure from the Col de Romeyère (car park) take about 150 meters on the road north towards Pas du Follet-Bois de Neurre 2, before turning on the left to climb into a field then into the forest and reach the Bois de Neurre 1. From there, continue until the Pas du Follet, a remarkable view towards the neighboring town of Malleval-en-Vercors and the Isère plain. Consider returning to the Col de Romeyère by retracing your steps to take the Bois de Neurre towards Rencurel, following the yellow-red markings of the Tour des Coulmes. Join the Lapiaz 3 (where we leave the Tour des Coulmes) and then Le Belvédère 4, to finish the walk along the forest road of Mont Noir.

The castle shelters the museum of the French Revolution since 1984. The collections gather pieces of art such as paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings. On July 21st 1788, the castle of Vizille entered History. The Etats Généraux of the Dauphiné meeting which had been forbade by Grenoble authorities had been thus sheltered by Claude Perrier. Seduced by the liberal ideas, his castle sheltered this meeting. 187 members of the Tiers Etats, 49 clergymen and 159 noblemen deliberated during 16 hours. In demanding the meeting of the Etats généraux this event is considered to have triggered the Revolution. The Salle du jeu de paume which was the witness of this event have burnt during the fire of 1865. Its implantation is now symbolised by a terrace planted with trees at the entrance of the museum. This cave was discovered in 1936. In 2017, it was almost 50km long, with 5 entrances spread over Autrans-Méaudre-en-Vercors. It rises at the Goule Noire bridge in the Gorges de la Bourne.

During the ascent to the Pas du Follet, admire the view over the Rencurel valley, dominated by the rocks of Méaudre and the Rochers de Gonson. It was here that part of the film was filmed: "Une hironelle a fait le printemps" by Christian Carion in 2001.

These jumps, which hosted the 70m jumping and Nordic combined events at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, are still in use today. They represent a long local tradition of ski jumping (first jumping competition in 1911).

During the last war, lumberjacks and coal miners lived there.During this period, coal miners made charcoal in metal furnaces, while the ancestral method perpetuated by some until the sixties was to carbonize logs of beech, skillfully arranged in grindstones covered with earth, shelter from the air. It took 50 tons of wood to get 10 tons of coal.In 1998, a man revived the past by reviving this charcoal hut.

Known since the beginning of the last century by the inhabitants of Autrans, this cave with a simple route is used by speleologists to discover the underground world. It bears witness to an old underground network where the water circulated before returning to the gorges of the Bourne. Become a fossil cave, today only the rain feeds its stalagmites and stalagtites.

Many places in the Vercors testify to the old presence of the Bear. It is here that it has remained the longest in the French Alps. The last was reportedly killed at the Col de l'Arc in 1901, and the last sighting took place in St Martin-en-Vercors in 1937. The Molière alpine pasture (probably millstone because a former grinding quarry exists nearby), represents a traditional pasture place for the 280 heifers belonging to 25 different owners. The different cattle breeds raised on the Vercors are there: the montbéliarde, in the white and red dress; Abondance, white with dark brown eyes; The blonde of Aquitaine in the plain dress, very similar to the local star, the Villarde. The Molière alpine pasture is classified as a sensitive natural area by the departmental council of Isère, its management is entrusted to the Regional Natural Park of Vercors.
