Discover one of the largest of all peaty areas in the Tarn! You will meet Marguerite and its friends, little Highlands Cattle cows as well as the Drossera, a small carnivorous plant. Time: 1.5 hour - Distance: 3.1 km Start sign on a little ope space beside the road in Lassouts Hamlet. The peat bog of Canroute is a wetland classified as a Natura 2000 area. Highland Cattle, little cows looking as though they had loomed up out of the prehistoric past, help to maintain the peat bog from the end of May to the end of September. This particularly sensitive area inhabits an atypical fauna and flora such as the Drossera, a small carnivorous plant. There are some precautions to be taken before starting this walk: No dogs allowed It is also advisable to have a second pair of shoes and socks (the peat bog is often muddy). Car park GPS coordinates: 43.647879, 2.518716 A lush green valley runs through the vast commune of Fontrieu, amongst beautiful farmland dotted with hedgerows and dry stone walls. It was here that the Ouillats convent was established in 1825, benefiting from fertile land and an abundance of water. Above Biot and to the south, the mountain rises 300 metres and marks the start of a vast wooded area on the granite ridge of Puech Margot. In this landscape, amidst recent clear-cuts and old high forests, the cry of the harrier and the pecking of the woodpecker often echo the rustling of the wind through the branches. Let’s walk around the woods… An easy walk for families. This path goes through the Green Way(la VoieVerte)first for about 2kms . When you leave it , you take a small forest track-the forest is very thick- this track is a link between 3 hamlets in the South of Labastide- Rouairoux : Lafeuillade ,Cantignous et Fon de Santé. The tracks are inhabited by wild animals , particularly roe deers-you may see them , if you are lucky -, an important number of different species of birds who want to live in the quietness of the woods. On the way , you will see chimneys and roofs of ancient factories . In the 19th century ,Labastide-Rouairoux had an important industrial development with the building of many textile mills , weaving and dyeing factories .The industrial activity of the village influences the landscape of the valley still now . This industrial heritage remains an important indication of the industrialization of the valley .

Duration: 2 hours – Distance: 5.5 km Passing through Brassac, a medieval town, and its old quarters, this easy route follows the banks of the Agout, quickly taking you into the heart of the countryside. GPS parking : 43.62882, 2.49675 The Agout river, emerging from a steep gorge, meanders into a vast basin. In the Middle Ages, it separated the castles of the lordships of Castelnau (right bank) and Belfortès (left bank). This river carried away the bodies of the belligerents during the struggles between Protestants and Catholics in the 16th century. It operated the fulling mills (paradors) which pressed the woolen cloths to give them their consistent texture. In the 17th century Brassac was already producing the best quality, called cordelats. Brassac was developing thanks to the energy of its river and its men.

During your walk, you will come across the 12th-century bridge spanning the River Agout, which links the two castles: Belfortès Castle (the Marquise’s castle) and Castelnau Castle (the Town Hall). In Rue du Moulin, you’ll see a half-timbered house on your right dating from the Middle Ages, which once housed a craftsman’s workshop. As you climb towards the penstock, you’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the valley. You can also admire the view over the village of Brassac and the hamlet of Castelnau de Brassac. You will then walk alongside an old irrigation channel (béal) that used to carry water to the fulling mill (for pressing cloth).
