In the land of vineyards, in the heart of the Médoc appellation, Blaignan had seven windmills until the Revolution. At Château Tour Haut Caussan, a property with the Vignobles et Chais en Bordelais label, you will discover an 18th century windmill in perfect working order. You will also be able to admire a beautiful view of the Médoc from the Blaignan hillock. The guide for this walk is available at the Médoc Vignoble Tourist Office.

In the heart of the Médoc, between vineyards and marshes, you will link the ruins of the Abbey of Isle to the Potensac castle. You will see the many wine estates that make up the richness of this Médoc terroir and the cooperative cellars that bring together small winegrowers.

Welcome to the cycling tour that links the Gallo-Roman Archaeological Site of Brion in Saint-Germain-d?Esteuil to the Abbey of Vertheuil. In addition to the richness of these two jewels of the Médoc heritage, you will appreciate discovering two castles anchored in the wine history of the Médoc Swamps, vineyards, hills, undergrowth, plains: various landscapes that you will cross during this walk.

In the heart of the Médoc, between the vineyards and the ocean, Lesparre has preserved beautiful traces of its history since ancient times. The jewel in the crown is the Donjon de l'Honneur, an imposing piece of military architecture from the early 14th century. This path starts from the Tour de l'Honneur, a historical point for the town of Lesparre, and crosses a large part of the forest.

A fun and friendly treasure hunt to discover the city of Lesparre-Médoc while having fun and using your powers of observation. Accessible to all, to be done alone, in group or in family! On a 2 km route through the sub-prefecture of the Médoc, find the clues and answer correctly the questions in the guide to receive your "Certificate of Supreme Achievement". Take advantage of your passage near them to visit the "Tour de l'Honneur" (medieval dungeon) and the "Palais du Costume Mazarin". Following the mouth of the Gironde, the path of the legend of Amadour then crosses the route of prestigious wine estates, Médoc grands crus such as Château Lafite-Rothschild and Château Grand-Puy Ducasse. Upon arriving in Pauillac, the walk ends along the quays, where one can see the Patiras lighthouse, which has guided ships from its island for more than 100 years.

The commune includes the hamlets of Blaignan and Caussan. The village, formerly located in Blaignan, has developed in Caussan. However, the commune still retains the name of Blaignan, a reminder of the former noble house, whose castle was located on the mound of the place called Blaignan. In the 11th century, a Romanesque church with a cemetery was built near the castle. It was demolished after the 1940 war. The present church, built in the 19th century in the centre of the new town of Caussan, was restored in 1970 For visits : contact the town hall during opening hours to get the key.

Amid the vines of Château Tour Haut Caussan, there is a marvelous windmill built in 17th century : its distinctive characteristic. Courrian family live in Blaignan-Médoc since 1634 and are owners since 1877. Wine (AOC) is made in oak barrels in a huge cellar. During the tour of barrel cellar, Fabien Courrian tell us the story of the vineyard and explaines you the wine aging characterictics and bottled in the vineyard. But, that’s not all : he explaines how windmill works restored by the Compagnons du devoir in 1981 before finishing with wine tastings.

The Noisettines du Médoc were created in 1980 in the cellar of Noyez family, in the heart of Bordeaux vineyards. They are nowadays undisputed Gironde specialty. Completely handmade candy made with hazelnut, products are natural and with no preservatives. A warm welcome is waiting for you during tours and free tastings revealing you the steps of the Noisettines du Médoc. It will be a rewarding moment where you could enjoy a movie and puppet show that explain our story.

The tables are set up under a shady grove in the middle of the vines. Ideally situated on the path of the "La Blaignanaise" hiking loop.

Set amidst the vineyards, the Courrian windmill (also known as the Blaignan or Caussan windmill), owned by Château la Tour Haut Caussan, is a Berton wing mill. Restored in 1981, it still has its interior mechanism. Berton wings are a technical improvement from the 19th century. Made of thin planks pivoting on verrons hinged to the yards, they can be extended and retracted at will. They are operated from inside the mill, thanks to a four-arm mechanism attached to the drive shaft, eliminating the need to cover the wings with canvas. In addition to a visit to the Château, a tour of the mill is available on request. Visits are also possible on special occasions (e.g. Journée des Moulins).
