An easy walk that is ideal for getting back in shape and has many points of interest: a remarkable church, a route overlooking Saumane, a picturesque uphill stretch on the former King’s road to St-Roman-de-Tousque, a section on the Corniche des Cévennes and a downhill stretch to Saumane with magnificent panoramic views onto Mont Lozère, the Cévennes and Mont Aigoual. Continue on the road, via La Tourette. "Cabrières", go downhill on the right and cross the river on the picturesque bridge, then go back uphill to just below the hamlet of Bourgnolles. Take the road on the right to the D 907, turn left onto it and walk to the Maison de Capou. At Maison de Capou, go uphill through the stony ravine to reach St-Roman de Tousque (former King’s road). In St-Roman de Tousque, turn right in the village and join the Corniche des Cévennes road (D 9). At the road (D9), cross the security barriers and walk to the Col de l’Exil pass. At “Col de l'Exil”, take the forestry track on the right towards “Saumane” via "Saint-Roman",  “Cabrijoule”. At “Cabrijoule” keep going downhill towards “Saumane” via  the “Pont de Saumane”. At “Pont de Saumane”, turn left to return to the car park.

At “Col de l’Espinas” take the path on your left and then on your right and go down to the valley floor to “Faveyrolles”. At “Faveyrolles” walk to “les Plantiers” via “Faveyrolles-Parking” and “Les Monteils”. NB: in Monteils, take the path below the tower and cross the hamlet going downhill towards the tarred road. Return to “les Plantiers” via “Auminières” (1).

As you walk the ridge known as Gallows Ridge, admire the Vallée Borgne and the Vallée Française, one on each side. But make sure you don’t bump into the Lord of Moissac at the summit… That’s where he used to hang convicts! From the car park at the holiday village, go back up the D 140 for about 300 m and carefully cross the D 9 (Corniche des Cévennes) to enter the village of St-Roman de Tousque.Take the small road on the left, which soon turns into a track. Then follow the path that climbs to the ridge and to the summit of Gallows Ridge (Serre des Potences). Continue on this path, which leads to a track. Turn right onto the track.Turn right onto the Corniche des Cévennes (D 9) and walk for about 200 m. Caution: stay on the side of the road! Take the first path which goes downhill on the left and plunges into a chestnut forest. It crosses large schist rocks from which you can admire the Gardon valley.Take the path on the right. It crosses a drystone bridge over the Valat du Bouscayrol river. Once you have reached the D 140, near the hamlet of Fobies, turn left. After the second hairpin bend, leave the road and take the track that goes downhill on the right.At the hamlet of L’Espi, the track becomes a tarred road. Continue uphill on the road to the holiday village of St Roman de Tousque to return to your departure point..

In the heart of the Vallée Borgne, in the village's old mill, the Maison de l'Eau has naturally found its place. Around this witness to the past, a modern and entertaining exhibition presents water in the Cévennes. Mister Beaver, the mascot, invites young and old to a more unusual visit, combining questions, games and experiments... An interpretive trail completes the visit with a presentation of some of the tree species native to the Cévennes. This is a fun walk for the whole family, during which you'll come face-to-face with the birds that pass between forest and river. Equipped with a pair of binoculars, you can follow the signposted path to learn how to observe and recognize birds (also downloadable from our website). In addition to visits, the Maison de l'Eau also offers environmental education sessions for schoolchildren, leisure centers and the general public, as well as nature outings (on the trail of the beaver, the otter, the little people of the water...), walks, visits to the village... On the first two kilometres, up to the Rocher de l'Aigle, you are on the forestry track opened in 1938. Where there are forestry tracks, there are state-owned forests, meaning forests managed by the French state and the Office National des Forêts so as to develop the area. The presence of so many beech trees and pines is a marker of the previous reforestation policy on the Aigoual massif and in the Cevenol foothills. A plaque has been erected at the Col du Fageas pass, further along this trail, in memory of Max Nègre (1880 – 1960), one of the project managers of this collective undertaking. From 1935 to 1939, he thinned out the forests planted since the end of the 19th century and opened up forestry tracks.

Come in spring – up to the end of April – to see the rush-leaf narcissi opposite the Rocher de l'Aigle. They grow in abundance on the limited surface area of the sheltered and south-facing stony slope. Often there is only one fragrant flower per plant. Do not pick them! Take a photo instead!

Enjoy a superb 360° view! On the northern horizon, you can see the summit of Mont Aigoual and, on the valley floor, the hamlets of Les Millerines and L'Abric in the foreground and a part of the districts of L'Estréchure and Saumane in the middle distance. Further north, the village of St-Roman-de-Tousque is perched on the long corniche of the Cévennes. To the east, you can make out the city of Alès, Mont Bouquet and, in the distance, the “giant of Provence”, Mont Ventoux (1,912 m). On the southern horizon are two limestone hills: the Jumelles de Monoblet. Behind them, Coutach hill overlooks Sauve and Quissiac. The Pic Saint-Loup rises above it all with its 658 m. You can also see a stretch of coastline, with the salt marshes of Aigues-Mortes and La Grande-Motte just visible. Further west, the Roc Blanc rises next to the Pic d'Anjeau. And finally, just opposite you, Mont Fageas, the summit of the Liron range, on which you have been walking west-to-east for an hour already.
