Go on a journey of discovery of a wild Drome Provencale. The famous Col de Valouse and Col de la Chaudiere, give a impressive view of Drome Provencale on one side and the Vercors on the other. You’ll cross mediaeval villages and fortified castles. Appreciate the cool air in the gorges of St. May, take a dip in the river Aygues. You rejoin the Drome Valley and its river through Saillans, at the foot of the famous Trois Becs and at the heart of the renowned vineyards of Clairette de Die. The food lovers among you will enjoy tasting the products of the region throughout the journey. Take a short while or even a day of rest to visit the unmissable: The Pas des Ondes lake at Cornillon-sur-l’Oule; a visit to sample Clairette de Die and Picodon cheese; a hike on the Trois Becs; the castle at Poet-Celard with its children’s science museum; vulture watching at St. May; the potteries at Dieulefit; canoeing on the Drome ……. This small easy loop is especially nice to do while lavender are in bloom (June and July). Ideal for a family outing, it should be noted that if almost all of the route is very practicable, a portion makes it impossible for strollers (even all terrain strollers). In order not to disturb the wildlife, dogs must be leashed.

A route full of colour : from the emerald of the River Drome, through the green of the vines and forests, the warm tone of the stones of the hilltop villages and the violet of the lavender fields. The cycle route follows the river giving little bathing spots…. You now have two options – to climb through the forest of Saou and end up at Bourdeaux or carry on as far as Saillans and climb the Col de la Chaudiere. On the southern slope, in the Provencale countryside the pines rub shoulders with lavender, green fields and, in summer, you can hear the noise of the cicadas. Take a short while or even a day of rest to visit the unmissable: La Gare des Ramieres, the Tour de Crest, the hilltop villages, the wineries of Clairette de Die, the herbs at Saillans, a ramble in Marsanne, the Synclinal of Saou, ou les 3 becs, le Poet-Laval, Mirmande, Vesc, La Roche sur Grane, the pottery villages at Dieulefit, …. A walk to discover "the silk path" at Taulignan. Start: in front of the Musée de la Soie, Place du 11 Novembre Signposts: signposted "Silk Road" route Length: 4 km Duration: between 1h and 1h30 Difficulty: none

Follow in the footsteps of members of the Resistance as you explore the sites where a number of important events took place in 1944 with consequences for the Gervanne valley, its villages and surroundings. Start from the Champ de Foire car park and head to Les Chaux. After information point 1, turn left towards Frédières farm.Carry on to information points 2 and 3 until you reach the edge of the woods. Where the tracks meet, head for Beaufort-sur-Gervanne. Please note: after the loop to the left going towards Beaufort (after about 500 meters), make sure you take the track that goes up to the left into the meadow all the way to the summit (information point 4), then stay on the ridge. Make your way to information point 5 and head to the D732. On the D732, turn right then drop down near the first house on the Chemin du Colombier. Head to la Poste and walk down to the right past the Hôtel du Midi to get to the roundabout. Go back up to the left to reach the village square. On the square, take the first street immediately to the right in the direction of the Mairie (Town Hall) to get to the Old Village, where you can enjoy a stroll. Back on the square, you can walk through the public gardens before making your way to the esplanade. At the end of the esplanade, take the Grand' Rue to head back to your starting point.

Discover a part of the rich history of Gigors, including the ruins of the Savel, the remains of an ancient medieval castle and the ruins of the Esperi, once entirely isolated in the lower part of the rock of the Aigle. Departure from Saint-Pierre church (car park behind the church). Take 30m on the road RD732, then join Les Fournats 1. Then take the path that ascends gradually in laces to reach the Ruins of Savel 2, the road continues towards Sagnol 3, then Boussière 4. Then join the Ruins of Esperi 5, then the Arthauds 6. You then have 2.5km to travel in an almost Mediterranean atmosphere to reach the place of departure.

A family stroll along the water of the Pas des Ondes, true "oasis” of the Baronnies Provençales. By being parked in the Pas des Ondes car park (parking and access to the water body in July and August are not free), return to the entrance gate of the site. Take the bank path between the Oule river and the lake : The starting point of the theme trail "Faune aquatique du Pas des Ondes" is located there. Follow this flat path for 600 meters to the end of the second lake and pass to the left of the educational pond. 1- Shortly after the two fishing pontoons, facing the hill surmounted by the ruins of the castle, take the small path that goes up the slope. After a turn on the left, the path leads to another path: take a right on this new path crossing towards the river, down to a road. Take a left on the path which turns into a path and join the bank of the river to a pebble beach. 2- Turn back and join the previous intersection. 3- Follow straight on the flat path between the river and the treatment plant and return to the educational pond. 4- Continue the tour of the water bodies along the banks by the flat road or the path through the grass that can be seen near the shores of water bodies.

A hike for good walkers, tomeet the traces of the rural and pastoral life of the Mountain Bugee. From the parking lot of the Croix de Bodon, turn right onto the tarmac road to Bodon Abbey, 250m away. After the abbey, go past the roadside house and take the paved road up towards the top of the plateau. 1 - Go up on the winding tar path to the highest farm where the small road turns into a dirt road. Follow this path for 2km to reach the lavender field at the top of the plateau. The signpost of Col de Saint-May is located 30m east of the lavender field. 2 - At the Col de Saint-May (975m) take the first trail to the right descending in ubac towards "Rémuzat" by the "Ravine du Col". (Be careful shortly after departure, passing overhanging and sloping on the side of amarl!) Follow the path along the creek until you come to a path that you follow to the left. Cross the little brook to go up steeply on a road that you leave in the first turn to take a path on the right that passes in front of the ruins of an old farm with a linden planted in front. Continue up the trail, past another ruin on the way to the Col de Pensier (1002m), which you will reach a little further. 3 - Go down the wide trail to reach the valley of Léoux and reach the road after a farm. At the bridge, do not cross the creek, turn left along the river. In the turn that leads to a farm, turn right and follow the trail which gradually rises above the stream until losing it and join a house at the place "Bergerie de la Botte". Stay behind the house, continue along the trail which slopes to the left, change slopes, and join the shoulder of themountain in front. 4 - Upon arriving on the ridge, leave the path for a path down left on the south flank. The trail joins the small road from Saint-May to the Plateau Saint-Laurent. Climb back up and rejoin the starting point.

If you love contrasting landscapes, you're in for a treat! Along the way, you'll pass through holm oak woods, vineyards and lavender fields. 36 km. Caution: altitude difference. Not recommended for small children. Departure from the Tourist Office – Valréas Turn left and left again to the 2 next following roundabouts. At the end of the avenue, at the roundabout with a little olive tree, follow the roadsign for Vinsobres, then at the end take the D46 towards Vinsobres. The road goes steeply uphill with hairpin bends for 4 km winding through vineyards, truffle oaks and fruit orchards. At the Sainte Croix crossroads, in the bend, turn right towards Visan (Beautiful cross to be seen). The minor road follows the crest of the hill for 5,3 km and all the way along there are lovely views, on the left of the plateau de Vinsobres and the Baronnies hills, the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail (occasionally on the right you can catch a glimpse of Valréas in the distance through the trees). 1. After a steep downhill section crossing the D191 at les Françons, turn left towards the quartier Poulidon. At the bridge, turn right towards Visan and go on the steep uphill for 1,7 km. You will come to a crossroads where you must turn right towards Visan. Have a look at the wonderful field of olive trees on the left side. The long downhill run to Visan (3,5 km) goes past vineyards, Austrian pines and truffle oaks. 2. In Visan, at the crossroads with the pharmacy facing you, turn right as far as the roundabout and then turn left into D20 towards Richerenches (7km). You can see on your right, the “montagne de la Lance”, as the backdrop of the route. Go through the village of Richerenches. 3. and as you leave the village take a left turn towards Montségur sur Lauzon. The road is surrounded by fields of lavender and aromatic herbs. Just before the bridge over the stream, the Aulière, turn right towards Grillon. 4. Keep going straight along the road (no turnings) up to the junction with the D20 from Richerenches. 5. Turn left, then in a big bend, turn left towards Grillon. You arrive in Grillon. In the “Place de la Bourgade”, take the road for Valréas and leave the village. At the last bend to the left, just past the guesthouse “Au vieux chêne”, don’t take the main road round the bend but continue straight on along the old road (so that you can avoid the main road which has lots of traffic). But still watch out for traffic on the old road. 6. At the “Stop” sign, go straight on to get back to Valréas. When you get to the town, follow the cours de Gaulle which goes up to your right and follow the tourist Office signs.

My great-grandfather, Henry Richard, made his own olive oil in his mill and then, with the help of his cart and his mule, he went to sell his olive oil, olive and soap production from farm to farm by peddling. Today, the traditions of peddling, local olive oil production and blended olive oils are kept alive in my beautiful French department of Drôme. In the north, in Montoison, we produce walnut oil, hazelnut oil and rapeseed oil. In the south, in Nyons, we produce PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) Nyons olive oil. The Taulignan silk museum is an essential place for Drôme know-how with its 600 m2 of collections and animated machines. A film traces the origin of silk. After two bombing raids on June 22 and 28, 1944, the enemy forces approached from the Drôme valley to the south and attacked the village on July 27.

With its vaulted passages, its old lanes full of history, its houses imbricated one in the other, Beaufort emits a little air of Provence. On the village square, the keep of an old castle, converted into a public garden will welcome you for a short stop. But it is especially in the Temple that the history of the village is read. Beaufort was indeed an important place of Protestantism.

On walking down the Vercors road, you will have seen a large number of so-called “reconstruction” houses (with grey rendering on the facades).In 1944, the "reconstruction" often reshaped the architectural appearance of the village.

After barricading the south of the village, the Germans overran it from the west and the left bank of the Gervanne to the east. At five in the afternoon, after eight hours of fighting, the enemy withdrew – but before retreating some of the soldiers in the Ost Battalion burned and pillaged the village.

Members of the Maquis made their bread in total secrecy at the Frédières farm. The flour was transported to the oven at night from the Moulin du Roy mill to the south of the village of Beaufort. It was also made covertly at the two village bakers in Beaufort.Please respect private property: keep to the path.

In January 1943, Marcel Barbu, founder of the Boimondau factory and community in Valence, bought the Mourras farm on the Combovin plateau, where he set up a camp for recusants (réfractaires in French) – men and women who refused to work for the Germans.A training school for Resistance officers was also organised there.A group of 40 or so Resistance members relocated to the village in late October 1943.Michel Prunet took command in late January of the following year. Alongside his men, he forged close ties with the people living in the valley, with some of the farms serving as command posts for the FFI (French Forces of the Interior).

In 1943, the first Maquis in France took up residence in the village of Omblèze.The Gervanne valley was at the heart of the south-western defensive system in the Vercors during the events of 1944.

The former sheepfold of La Botte is one of the most visible scenery markers of the pastoral activity which reigned on the mountain of Buègue until the post-war period. Now rehabilitated as a dwelling, the building was built with the slope: The level offset made it a ground floor destined to the animals and a first floor devoted to the hay. On the other hand, the sheepfold had been positioned on a sunny slope and near a creek.

Above the road towards the Bugeue ridge, a wood of old oaks with crooked trunks, was used to feed the flocks. Young twigs were regularly cut to feed the animals with the leaves of the trees. With each cut and each regrowth of these branches, the scars of the wood formed balls that the bark would overlay little by little. These trees are called "tadpole oaks" (with a head) because of their very specific shape.
