This pleasant patrimonial walk allows you to discover part of the sometimes painful history of the commune of Chapelle-en-Vercors. Departure from La Chapelle-en-Vercors (in front of the Tourist Office), go before the town hall before turning left, then right on the right the road that allows to join Les Bruyères  From there, continue on the road about 200 meters before turning on the right in the direction of the crossroads Le Lauzet From Lauzet, follow Les Chaberts then Les Chaux and turn right to reach Le Château. A little further on at the crossroads Sous Le Château, you have the possibility to return at the start of the walk directly (direction La Chapelle-en-Vercors), or to go to the ruins of Château de Foirevieille then return to the center of the village.

Go to reach the belvédère of Révoulat and its breathtaking panorama over the whole valley of the Vernaison in particular. Departure from La Croix Châtelard, direction Le Belvédère 4 by taking the track leading to the Grand Serre 1 then Révoulat 2 and L'Aigue 3, then continue on a nice path to reach Le Belvédère (Parents, attention to your children on the edge of the cliff!).Return to La Croix de Châtelard via Les Rochers d'Echevis 5, Chemin des Falaises 6 Les Rochas 7 then Grand Cros 8 and the hamlet of Les Revoux.From here, a last small ascent to the shrubbery of boxwood conditions the return to the starting point of this magnificent loop.

Located between the Petits and the Grands Goulets, this circuit makes you discover the charms of Echevis and its valley. Departure of Echevis (in front of the church), direction Châtelus, cross the departmental road (pay attention to the cars!) And join the crossroads Binla 1.Turn right into the hamlet of Chardière, then take the path and cross the Bayard combe (well follow the yellow and green markings) to Ranc des Gardes 2.From there, you have the possibility either to go down directly to Binla to rally the village of Echevis, or to continue your discovery by joining Les Saffrières 3 to start the descent to Pont d'Echevis 4.Attention, from here the return to Echevis takes place along the departmental road on a small kilometer (the greatest caution is therefore de rigueur!)

The open visit to the Necropolis of Vassieux-en-Vercors serves as an introduction to this easy loop. Here you are invited to remember the battles that took place in July 1944 and the journey taken by members of the Resistance. You now cross the broad plain of Vassieux, where enemy gliders used to land. Set off from the Necropolis car park. Cross the D76 at the gate and follow the signposted path opposite towards La Grande Peyrouse. At the La Grande Peyrouse intersection, continue on towards Pourlette. In Pourlette, an interpretation panel explains the geological formation of the Vercors. Cross the D76 again and take the path opposite that goes across fields and leads to the site of an old water mill, which has been recently redeveloped. Once you are on the path, turn right towards the Necropolis. The trail will take you back to the starting point.

Follow the footsteps of the old mule tracks, which once linked the plateau of Vercors to the lower valley of the Bourne.This hike offers a beautiful panorama of the two "big canyons" of the Vercors. From the La Plateforme car park, take the direction of Pas de l'Allier 3 on a forest track passing through Le Pin 1 and Micoulas 2, the path gradually narrows to the lookout point of Pas de l 'Allier, where, you can admire an exceptional panorama on the Rhone valley in particular. Then descend to the cliff side by a narrow path (be careful in rainy weather!) To reach the crossroads of the Voûtes 4. From there, begin the gradual ascent towards the Pas des Voûtes 5, from which you can admire the panorama on the Gorges de la Bourne. Continue towards La Cabane à Lili 6, on the way, a must-see belfry on Choranche and Presles invites you to contemplation before joining the parking of La Platform.

From the scenic and vertiginous road to Combe Laval, discover the Montagne de l'Echarasson. Departure from the Belvedere de Combe Laval (parking) on the D76 (road Combe Laval), direction Col de l'Echarasson 2. Go up to Ferlin 1, then continue through woods and clearings for a good hour to reach the Col de l'Echarasson (1146 m). From the pass, take the direction of Saint-Jean-en-Royans and go down again following the yellow and green markings until the Pas de la Sère 3. At the Pas, continue towards Saint-Jean-en-Royans to reach Gaudissart 4. From there, climb slightly back to Ferlin and then back to the Belvedere de Combe Laval.

This walk runs alongside the Memorial to the Resistance before leading to the site of one of the Vercors Resistance camps, Camp No. 6, which was set up by Benjamin Malossane in February 1943. The members of the Maquis survived for several months in the Grange de Vauneyre, which was tucked away in a quiet clearing hidden from view by the forest. Here you will be plunged into the day-to-day lives of these men and women who decided to join the underground movement. Setting out from the car park at Col de la Chau, head up the steps that lead to the Mémorial de la Résistance, getting the most out of the trail about the Memorial’s architecture. Now leave the Memorial footbridge on your right and carry on for a couple of minutes before taking the path that rises to the left, signposted by three steps. Cross the D76 (be careful: it’s a busy road) to the information panel on the other side and head in the direction of Grange de Vauneyre. A forest path climbs abruptly until you get to the Grange de Vauneyre meadow, which is where the men from Camp No. 6 were stationed. Take the forest path that goes to the left and walk along it for around 800 m until you arrive in front of a wide forest track. Turn left to go down the track via the GR95 that leads to the D76 in the direction of Col de La Chau. Staying on the same track, walk for a few meters along the secondary (départementale) road and head back to the car park where you started from.

In early July, trail courses for all levels of ability. Every year, at the beginning of July, trails for all levels of ability are offered, attracting an ever-increasing number of runners dazzled by the panoramic views over the Trièves and La Matheysine. Among the trail's original features are, of course, the crossing of the 2 Himalayan footbridges over the Drac and Ebron rivers, which feed the lake, as well as surprises such as the crossing of the Mine Image gallery, a boat transfer and even a mini-run for the little ones!

The Trail de Côte Rouge (26 km) is an opportunity for regular Trail runners to discover the joys of Trail running, or for those who have run Trail découverte events and want to progress to the next level. Departure and arrival on the shores of Lake Monteynard, at the Treffort water sports center. After skirting the lake, you'll cross the Ebron footbridge, then the Pont de Brion, a listed structure. From here, the first ramp takes you up to the hamlet of Maissenas, where you can enjoy superb views of the lake and Sénépi, on the opposite shore, from the slopes of Côte Rouge. Then it's on to the second ramp to reach the Côte Rouge orientation table! From here, you'll descend to the village of Monestier-de-Clermont, where you'll be greeted by the village en fête! A small detour through the ruins (very discreet) of the castle of Foirevielle offers a beautiful view on La Chapelle-en-Vercors and the surrounding valleys. In the ninth century, this caste motte watched the roads coming from Vassieux or the col de Rousset. The village of Bâtie de l'Orme and then of the Bâtie de Vercors huddled at his feet. It was in the twelfth century that the villagers moved the village to the present location.

Back in the village, next to the post office, the ruins of the farm Albert are also called "Cour des fusillés". On 25 July 1945, while the non-escaped inhabitants were held hostage in the school and the Wafen SS troops burned down the village, 16 young men and the schoolmaster were shot this location. To the right of the remains of the surrounding wall, a small memorial recalls these events.

The start of the hike takes you past the church. Its bell-tower (listed) of the twelfth century is one of the rare buildings that escaped the bombing and the fire of the village in July 1944. If the houses all have a similar architecture, it is because they were completely rebuilt from 1948 onwards. It is in temporary buildings (some of which are still visible at the exit of the village towards Vassieux) that the inhabitants lived for six years for some, in particular the very cold winters 1946 and 47.

The prairie of Darbounouse is a so-called cold combe. The accumulation of a semi-continental climate and altitude is aggravated by the nocturnal inversion of temperature (the denser cold air is lodged in the hollows). The weather station installed in the framework of the Vercors eco-climatic observatory recorded a record negative temperature with -38 ° C in 2000.

During a tour of maintenance and surveillance, an old path completely disappeared in the vegetation was rediscovered by the ecogardes of the Regional Natural Park of the Vercors. After consulting the cadastre, this trail turned out to be an old communal road. With the authorization of the commune of La Chapelle-en-Vercors and the technical support of local associations, the park's agents were able to re-open it and integrate it into the network of marked hiking trails. You will take it between the crossroads of the Rochers d'Echevis and the Chemin des cliffs. It offers in particular a beautiful viewpoint on the Gorge des Grands Goulets (watch out for the cliff). When you come to the direction sign Chemin des falaises, you will have to go up a little on your left, to find the crossroads of Rochas, and the continuation of the itinerary.

Between the localities called Révoulat and l'Aigue, note, by the roadside, an ancient basin fed by a small spring covered with a vault. From the mountain of the Aigue, on your left, several sources sprang up which had allowed the installation of a hamlet in Révoulat.

Unique in its size (17,000 hectares), the Hauts Plateaux Reserve covers 10% of the Vercors Regional Nature Park. It is now the largest land reserve in mainland France.

In winter, the Herbouilly site is connected to Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors by a network of 150 km of cross-country ski trails. The snow disappeared, besides the free flight and the climbing, Herbouilly is an emblematic place for the initiation to speleology, in particular to the chasm of Gours Fumant. Hiking and mountain biking trails allow you to visit the site. For the less athletic, the trail of Oscar or the Filambule, starting from the Nordic building offer adventures adapted to the families.

The shelter of Peyrouse (Abri de la Peyrouse) located on the balconies East of the Vercors is an unguarded stone hut, 2 places are planned to sleep there, but you will not find there water nor stove to warm you.

The Baraque of Veymont is an unguarded cabin of the Forest Service. It can accommodate 8 people for the night, but plan your equipment because it does not have mattresses or stove.

The Fauge Shelter is a large, unguarded hut. With a fireplace, it can accommodate 20 people. It is named after the valley of the Fauge.

The cabin of the Aiguillettes is a former shepherd's hut dating back to the time when the pastoral units were smaller. This hut, open to the public, accommodates only 4 people by tightening a little and does not have a stove.

At the crossroads of several important trails, the Cabin de Pre Peyret is one of the most frequented of the massif. Located at the entrance of the high plateaus at 1600 m, this unguarded stone hut can accommodate 10 people for the night. It has a stove.The place exudes an old tradition of welcome because it is an old cabaret where those who were penniless went to drink at the Fountain of the Endettés, which bears his name well.

The shelter of the pass of Vassieux is an unguarded shelter built in 1976 and restored in 2014-2015 by the Regional Natural Park of Vercors.With a maximum capacity of 15 people, it is open all year and free of access. However, as with most shelter huts in the territory, certain rules must be respected if the service is to last for a long time (most of them are recalled to you inside the shelter).
