A walk on the heights of Nyons, between scrubland and olive groves: it is the right path to soak up the Nyonsaise atmosphere. From the car park in front of the town hall, turn left on the street leading to the school. Follow André Escoffier street, which rises to the right of the school. At the dead end, continue on the paved road that climbs 50 meters then continue straight on a stony path that climbs among the olive trees. Cross a path from side to side and continue straight on a narrower path along a wall. Arriving at the concrete road, go up until you reach the big cypresses and turn right along the path that goes up the hedge. The path leads to a paved road that must be followed at the climb. Climb two small bends, then, at the fork at the foot of the big block of ocher rock, turn right on the small road down, which extends to a plank lined with olive trees.1 - In the left turn, leave the road to take a right on the trail marked by a post indicating the climbing site. Go up this gently sloping path and pass at the foot of the rock climbing. At the exit of the green oak wood (rocky plate), leave the flat path to take the left that climbs. After the stone walls arranged in a circle in the oak grove, climb the wooded scrubland and reach the Devès junction (directional post alt. 470 m) with the GR 9.2 - Continue the path that goes left on the ridge to the Notre-Dame de Réparat chapel. Pass the Pontias Hole and continue on the Pontias Pass (road).3 - Make a U-turn and return to the Devès intersection (directional post alt 470 m)4 - Continue straight to go down the ridge and below, pass rocks and steps. When the path arrives in view of a building, keep going down to the left and, at the first houses, go down the Devès street. Through the small streets of the old town return to the Town Hall Square.

If you love contrasting landscapes, you're in for a treat! Along the way, you'll pass through holm oak woods, vineyards and lavender fields. 36 km. Caution: altitude difference. Not recommended for small children. Departure from the Tourist Office – Valréas Turn left and left again to the 2 next following roundabouts. At the end of the avenue, at the roundabout with a little olive tree, follow the roadsign for Vinsobres, then at the end take the D46 towards Vinsobres. The road goes steeply uphill with hairpin bends for 4 km winding through vineyards, truffle oaks and fruit orchards. At the Sainte Croix crossroads, in the bend, turn right towards Visan (Beautiful cross to be seen). The minor road follows the crest of the hill for 5,3 km and all the way along there are lovely views, on the left of the plateau de Vinsobres and the Baronnies hills, the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail (occasionally on the right you can catch a glimpse of Valréas in the distance through the trees). 1. After a steep downhill section crossing the D191 at les Françons, turn left towards the quartier Poulidon. At the bridge, turn right towards Visan and go on the steep uphill for 1,7 km. You will come to a crossroads where you must turn right towards Visan. Have a look at the wonderful field of olive trees on the left side. The long downhill run to Visan (3,5 km) goes past vineyards, Austrian pines and truffle oaks. 2. In Visan, at the crossroads with the pharmacy facing you, turn right as far as the roundabout and then turn left into D20 towards Richerenches (7km). You can see on your right, the “montagne de la Lance”, as the backdrop of the route. Go through the village of Richerenches. 3. and as you leave the village take a left turn towards Montségur sur Lauzon. The road is surrounded by fields of lavender and aromatic herbs. Just before the bridge over the stream, the Aulière, turn right towards Grillon. 4. Keep going straight along the road (no turnings) up to the junction with the D20 from Richerenches. 5. Turn left, then in a big bend, turn left towards Grillon. You arrive in Grillon. In the “Place de la Bourgade”, take the road for Valréas and leave the village. At the last bend to the left, just past the guesthouse “Au vieux chêne”, don’t take the main road round the bend but continue straight on along the old road (so that you can avoid the main road which has lots of traffic). But still watch out for traffic on the old road. 6. At the “Stop” sign, go straight on to get back to Valréas. When you get to the town, follow the cours de Gaulle which goes up to your right and follow the tourist Office signs.

This small easy loop is especially nice to do while lavender are in bloom (June and July). Ideal for a family outing, it should be noted that if almost all of the route is very practicable, a portion makes it impossible for strollers (even all terrain strollers). In order not to disturb the wildlife, dogs must be leashed.

Easy 10 km hike, which can be shortened to just 4.5 km if necessary. Departing from Lake Grillon, a waterwheel tour of a mill, castle, church and mountain provides visual treats for this walk with variable geometry.

A looping circuit to discover the landscapes surrounding the wine-growing village of Visan. - From the Puy Barret gate, take the road which goes towards Vaison. - Take rue Notre Dame on the left which passes through the top of the housing estates. - At the crossroads, take the second road on the left towards the Notre Dame des Vignes chapel. Stay on the asphalt road. Nice view of the Visan hills. Pass the Cantharide area. - At the crossroads, turn right onto Chemin des Bordeaux which goes up towards the hill. - At the crow's feet, take the dirt road following the sign indicating 'Visan, pedestrian circuit'. Stay on this main path for 1.5 km. - At the top of the path, once at the tarmac road, take it to the right. - 200 meters later, at the corner of a vineyard and the woods, go down the path on your left, follow the vineyard on the left while going up, then the path goes to the right between the vines. Very nice 360° panorama of the surrounding area. - At the crossroads of several paths between the vineyards, turn right on the stony path to the Saint Vincent chapel. - At the Saint Vincent chapel, go down the large stony path which goes around the chapel, towards the village of Visan. Stay on the asphalt road towards the village (direction prohibited for vehicles). - At the crossroads (pretty stone shed) indicating "Visan 197 m", turn left towards the village. Follow the “Town Hall” sign to Place du Jeu de Paume. At the town hall which will be on your right, take the street below on the left which goes down and go down towards the Puy Barret gate to find the car park.

My great-grandfather, Henry Richard, made his own olive oil in his mill and then, with the help of his cart and his mule, he went to sell his olive oil, olive and soap production from farm to farm by peddling. Today, the traditions of peddling, local olive oil production and blended olive oils are kept alive in my beautiful French department of Drôme. In the north, in Montoison, we produce walnut oil, hazelnut oil and rapeseed oil. In the south, in Nyons, we produce PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) Nyons olive oil. On the city of Nyons and on its heights blows a wind typical of the micro-climate the Pontias. This northern wind is credited with keeping the Nyonsais air fresh and dry. The Pontias legend tells that it appeared when Césaire, bishop of Arles at the beginning of the 6th century, threw his glove against a rock in which he had previously captured a breeze by the sea. Where the glove touched the rock, the earth opened and the wind gushed out, creating the "Pontias hole".

A 300 m² exhibition space organised around a stone millstone and olive presses. Visitors will be able to learn everything there is to know about the methods of cultivation, harvesting, oil extraction and preparing the olives. Exhibition gallery (local artists). Thanks to the objects on display, visitors will learn about the centuries-old history and more recent techniques of olive growing in Nyons and the surrounding area, as well as the various uses of PDO Nyons olive oil. From the harvest to the mill, learn about the objects used to contain and store the oil, as well as its many uses, such as lighting with oil lamps. Visitors can also see an authentic 19th-century mill, some ancient presses, tools and various containers. As well as a wide range of objects devoted to the olive tree. This collection is brought to you by the Friends of the Olive Tree Association. Videos are shown explaining the age-old knowledge of the Baronnies olive tree, with all the ancestral manufacturing methods. In order to link this historic space with the contemporary one, the continuous extraction processes and the modern preparation of table olives are explained in a film about the cooperative.

The Notre-Dame de Réparat chapel, built at the top of Devès, owes its name to the site that surrounds it, called "la Roche" (rupis in Latin). This district is formerly occupied: its inhabitants took advantage of its belvedere location, between the plain to the west and the Baronnies mountains to the east. Already mentioned in the thirteenth century, it was associated with a hermitage but in the nineteenth century, it is abandoned and falls into ruin. The hermitage was restored about twenty years ago.

The Bourdons cliff is a site equipped for sport climbing in the 1980s and partially re-equipped in 2001. It presents a limestone pierced with numerous small crevices which denote compared to the other climbing cliffs of the massif. There is a climb of fifteen meters high with "water drops", "bulging" and slabs making this site a complete cliff for climbers.

The Devès vegetation, on its slope oriented to the south west very exposed to the sun, is particularly adapted to the hot and dry conditions: it's the scrubland. Several varieties of juniper (G. commun, G. cade, G. of Phenicia) have colonized this stony and filtering soil, where oaks and pines can not plant their roots. Their tiny leaves (thorns) and their small size are all strategies developed to limit their needs (and losses) in water.

Located between the Vaux Mountain the north and the Eygues banks to the south, contiguous to the clue (rocky around a watercourse), the town of Nyons is the gateway to the Baronnies Provencal massif by the Eygues valley. From the fourteenth to the nineteenth century, its bridge was the only structure, upstream of Orange, to allow the crossing of the river in any season. The city becomes the point of passage for the commercial and military routes.

In the center of the old town of Nyons, the church and the monastery Saint-Césaire are located on a site certainly occupied since antiquity. Above, the Forts district, with its thirteenth-century towers and its walls, is a secular neighbourhood. To the east and west, the city then developed around the Place des Arcades and a street that led to the Alps. The city remained in the walls until the eighteenth and it was not until the twentieth century that it spread in the lowland.

Discover the oldest oil mills of Nyons (XVIII and XIX centuries) and the historic soap factory of the XVIII century unique in France to this day, as well as an old kitchen of Haute-Provence. The Nyons bridge was built in 1399-1400 on the initiative of the local councilors, but this project took nearly 60 years to materialize. Guillaume de Pays, of Romans, was the carpenter of the building site and Jean Felisson, native of the surroundings of Grenoble, the architect and the stonemason. It is one of the finest examples in Europe of single arch bridges: it overlooks the river nearly 20 meters and its opening is 40.5 meters. It is classified as a historical monument since 1925.
