The city of Bergerac was an important port on the Dordogne in the days of the inland waterways. Some developments on the river upstream and downstream still testify to this period, including the dams created to facilitate navigation or for electricity production.

Starting from the village of Mauzac and its large water level at the dam, the route follows a canal that was dug between 1838 and 1843 to facilitate navigation to Libourne and Bordeaux. It is thus on the old towpath which was used to "lift" the boats that the valley cycle route is located. Along this route are some remarkable structures, such as the lock and the lock house of Mauzac (transformed into a museum), the "canal bridge" of Saint-Capraise de Lalinde, the lock staircase of Tuilières with a crossing basin, before arriving at the dam of Tuilières of 19,30 m high and 105 m length. This dam which produces 148GWH of annual average electricity is equipped with a fish elevator.

The presence of the La Rouzique paper mill is attested as early as 1530. Now the Écono-musée du papier chiffon, it is still in operation. In the company of the paper-maker and guides from the Au Fil du Temps association, immerse yourself in the world of rag paper. Your guide will tell you all about the history of paper, and explain why the paper mill developed here, between Couze and Dordogne. Visit the various buildings on the site, then discover how small pieces of fabric are transformed into sheets of paper. Every day in summer, make your own sheet and take it with you!

It was the first English country house. Founded in 1267 by Henry III Plantagenet. The layout of the streets of the town, the central square decorated with a cross erected in 1351 and the Romanesque brick and stone door at the western entrance remind us of the origins of the bastide of Lalinde The present church was inaugurated in 1901, it replaced the Romanesque church. The town also owes its charm to the Dordogne river and its canal.

The Dordogne River meanders along the limestone hillsides, forming wide meanders called "cingles". Already wide at the level of Lalinde, islets of rypisylve punctuate the watercourse, and the dead trees welcome the migrating osprey. Going up, the Mauzac dam will be interesting in winter and during migration. Numerous remarkable species have been noted there: Caspian tern, common merganser, common merganser, common goldeneye, red-necked grebe... Tern are also passing through.
