This route through the Bresse countryside takes in the natural site of Les Charmes à Sermoyer, made up of sand dunes created by wind and classified as a sensitive natural area. Depart from the town hall square to discover the church, the natural site of Les Charmes (sand dunes), the Groizenière pond and the woods. Don't forget to stop off at the comptoir des dunes for something to eat or drink!

The "Rendez-vous with the Seille" walk starts from the village church square, then crosses the Sermoyer meadow to discover the old Seille and then the Truchère lock leading to the Maillance wood. The Val de Saône is home to floodplains that stretch as far as the eye can see. Rich in plant species, it offers a succession of colours through the seasons. From April onwards, after the floods, purple dominates with the flowering of the meadow fritillary, the meadow cardamine, the cuckoo flower lychnis, and so on. The Seille is a delightful, little-known waterway. It meanders through the fields and groves that border it, where the famous Bresse chickens are reared. There are plenty of pleasant places to moor, often close to riverside inns. The Vieille Seille is a former bed of the Seille that history has transformed into a dead end that is fed from time to time during periods of high water. It was created in 1814 by Prussian soldiers returning from Napoleon's campaigns who cut a meander in order to allow merchant ships to sail as far as Louhans. This 30-hectare federal oxbow straddles the communes of La Truchère and Sermoyer. We also recommend the tour "des Charmes" (10.7km / 2hrs 40mins) whitch passes the Dunes des Charmes.

Leaving from Arbigny town hall. This trail will introduce you to the commune of Arbigny, a vast area covering 1,747 hectares! Arbigny retains many traces of its agricultural past in its landscape. To the east are the meadows and cultivated fields, in harmony with the woods and coppices, and to the west is the vast Val de Saône meadow, home to troops of cattle from spring onwards. The hamlets are typical of the Bresse region, with linear adobe buildings with hollow tile roofs framing a courtyard.

Depart from Arbigny town hall to explore the surrounding woodland and hedged farmland, the Bresse poultry and the Bief mill. Arbigny's landscape retains many traces of its agricultural past, such as the meadows and cultivated fields, which are in harmony with the woods and undergrowth. You can also see Bresse buildings, mixed farming and Bresse poultry.

Set off into the heart of the Bresse region and explore its paths. At the foot of its brick castle, the imposing Morel pond and mill invite you to relax. Around a bend in the hill, the Montalibord farm with its Saracen chimney and pond. Set off to discover the bocage landscape. After undergrowth, paths and tracks, stop off at the Montalibord farm, with its Saracen chimney and magnificent flowers in summer. Along the way, you'll pass a number of ponds, including the 28-hectare Etang Morel with its many birds and mill. Etang des Bourdons and its hamlet form a typically Bresse ensemble. Nearby: Etang Paccaud, a sensitive natural area. Vescours, a land of tile and wattle factories, is still home to high-quality clay extraction, hence the presence of numerous bodies of water. Vescours lies on a small plateau between the Saône valley and the Reyssouze and La Seille valleys, with views of the Mâcon, Revermont and Mont Blanc... an in-between feeling. Toponymy: in villa Vescurtis in the 10th century, Vecors around 1325, Vescors around 1350, Vecours in 1656. Name composed of the Germanic anthroponym Wiso, Old High German wisen, "to lead to direct", and curtis (seigneurial domain).

This trail will take you through the village of Saint-Bénigne, with its scattered settlements grouped into numerous hamlets and split in 2 by the D2 departmental road, route de Saint Trivier. The tour departs from Saint-Bénigne town hall. The church of Saint-Bénigne was built thanks to Michel Poisat (1802-1869) and his wife, whose tombs can be found in this neo-Romanesque church. The timber-framed upper and lower houses opposite the church are well worth a visit.

On this route, you'll discover the vast floodplain of the Saône, which stretches as far as the eye can see. When you reach the banks of the Saône, you can see the Ile de la Motte, which has been designated a sensitive natural area. Ile de la Motte is home to colonies of herons: black-crowned night heron, little egret and cattle egret, which are sometimes sensitive to disturbance during the breeding season. The existence of the island in the river is also an asset for maintaining fish diversity. Sediments transported by the Saône have been deposited and accumulated at La Motte, gradually creating islets and secondary arms. Together, these form a mosaic of natural habitats with an exceptional diversity of species. The beaver is present on the site and contributes to its management by cutting willow and poplar branches to eat the bark.

Our farm is open to share our passion for breeding: Charolais cows, wagyus (the best meat in the world) and Selle Français sport horses. We are committed to respect for animals, the environment and transparency. Wagyu, the legendary Japanese beef. "Waygyu" means "Japanese beef". This breed is at the origin of several exceptional meat-producing regions (Kobe beef, Hida beef, Ishigaki beef, etc.) throughout the Japanese archipelago. It was at the end of the 19th century, after more than a hundred years of prohibition, that the Japanese population began to consume the meat of oxen previously used for agricultural work. The breed was selected for the marbling of its meat, but also for its docility. Respect for animals and their environment is an integral part of Japanese Buddhist culture. One of the best beef cuts in the world! The marbling (intramuscular fat) gives the meat its taste: its importance is a characteristic of hardy breeds that is lost with selection to increase muscle mass. It explains the unrivalled flavor of Wagyu beef and its exceptional smoothness. Wagyu beef is also rich in unsaturated fatty acids, notably Omega 3. These essential fatty acids are beneficial to health and help prevent certain diseases. Wagyu cattle are particularly well cared for, avoiding any stress. They are fattened throughout their development, reaching maturity at 3 years. Charolais, an excellent traditional meat! We also raise a herd of Charolais cattle, carefully selected to produce quality meat. For direct sale, we reserve young cows aged 4-6 years who have had one to three calves: this is what gives the tastiest, most tender meat. They are fattened with the same high-quality feed as Wagyu cattle, and the fattening period (from 4 to 12 months) ensures that the meat is very marbled for the breed, and therefore very tasty. Breeding in the Ain region. Our methods are based on the renowned tradition of Bresse breeding, and combine the very best in terms of genetics, feed, habitat and rearing methods, with respect for the animal (and the employees). The farm provides the cows' feed: natural meadows, artificial meadows (Swiss Mix) and cereals form the basis. The cows and their calves are raised freely in the meadows during the good season (March to November). We integrate respect for the environment into our breeding approach: hedges are planted, manure is treated by methanization and the energy thus supplied is used to dry fodder in the barn. We optimize crop production by alternating grazing with cattle and horses (thus also reducing parasite pressure). Finally, in keeping with Japanese culture, we take particular care to maintain the docility of our animals through respectful and attentive domestication.

The ramparts were built in 1399, forming a perfect circle around the village. A few watchtowers and brick walls (privately owned) bear witness to this medieval past. It's possible to take a walk around the ramparts.

The "Dunes des Charmes" sand dunes offer an astonishing landscape far from the sea, shaped by floods and wind. Open spaces rub shoulders with wooded areas and some wetlands. The Dunes des Charmes site was awarded the "ENS" label by the Département de l'Ain in 2014. True natural and landscaped jewels of the Ain department, sites with the ENS "Espaces naturels sensibles" label are managed to preserve the biodiversity they host, and developed to be open to the public (with some exceptions due to the fragility of the environments). The site's very dry areas are punctuated by ponds and the banks of the Seille river, which add a touch of freshness and originality to the site. The site is open to the public. A parking lot has been set up in the commune of Sermoyer. Information panels on the site's history and challenges have been installed near the parking area. A pedestrian loop allows you to visit this atypical site and discover its treasures, thanks to signposting on a 2km trail (approx. 1h-1h30). Notable species observed: Flora: reindeer lichen, false heather, corynephorus (or sand hedgehog), mosses... Fauna: anteater, tiger beetle, broom azure, green lizard, hoopoe... 3 picnic tables and attractive play area

Labeled a Sensitive Natural Area since 2015, Ile de la Motte is located on the Saône River off Saint-Bénigne. It is home to colonies of herons: black-crowned night heron, grey heron and cattle egret. The Île de la Motte was awarded the "ENS" label by the Département de l'Ain in 2015. Real natural and landscaped jewels of the Ain department, the sites benefiting from the ENS "Espaces naturels sensibles" label are managed in such a way as to preserve the biodiversity they host and developed for opening to the public (barring exceptions due to the fragility of the environments). Located on the Saône River off Saint-Bénigne, Ile de la Motte is home to colonies of herons: black-crowned night heron, grey heron, heron and little egret, sometimes sensitive to disturbance during the breeding season. Information signs indicate that the island's frequentation disturbs the breeding of these remarkable birds from March to July. The existence of the island in the river is also an asset for maintaining fish diversity. Visits and educational events are organized to discover the natural riches of the site. You can consult the dates of these events on the Nature events calendar "sCENe ouverte sur le patrimoine naturel de l'Ain". Nearby, don't miss a visit to the Maison de l'Eau in Pont-de-Vaux. From the banks, you can observe the spring nesting season.

On the left bank of the Saône, it forms an original landscape that is home to endangered avifauna (corncrake, curlew, black-tailed godwit) and wetland flora (guinea fowl).

The Montalibord farmhouse features a Saracen-style mantel with a square, pyramidal bolster of an uncommonly abraded form. It is surmounted by a wrought-iron cross and its sides are decorated with triangular imbrications. Dendrochronological analyses show that the house was built in 1450, 1517-1518 and underwent several alterations in 1780. The chimney and roof were listed in 1944, and the whole farmhouse in 1974. Beautifully flowered in fine weather, it is still in business today (Charolais cattle, pond fishing and tourist accommodation = gîte and chambres d'hôtes). Inhabited until the mid-70s, it still has an open-air fireplace and period furniture (19th c. or even earlier), in particular an imposing archebanc (ancestral bench) with storage and a table. Also on display are a salt chair, a four-poster bed, tables and benches for meals, a tourti (bread ladder), a sink stone, a chest... In the old rooms, a presentation of the farm from 1932 to the present day, with a few tools and photos showing the evolution of farming techniques, but also the philosophy that has always prevailed on this farm over the three generations that have succeeded one another: the quest for quality. The eco-museum can be visited daily. Guided tours available on request.

Grandval farmhouse, named after an ancient parish, has been brought back to life by Morgan Benoît, the new owner since 2021. The great room, with its fireplace and period furniture, is open to visitors by special arrangement during the Heritage Days. The Grandval farmhouse dates back to the very early 16th century. The oak used to support the Saracen fireplace was felled in 1503. The Saracen fireplace was listed as a historic monument in 1925, and the body of the house in 1981. In 2021, the farm was bought by Benoît Morgan, a heritage enthusiast from Mézériat, where his grandparents and great-grandparents were millers. The farm is open for Heritage Days in September. In 2023, more than 400 people visited it. PLEASE NOTE: Exceptionally open on request and for the European Heritage Days.

Montalibord farm is a listed historic monument in the heart of the Bresse countryside, dating back to the 15th century. Come and immerse yourself in Bresse history by visiting the museum adjoining the gîte. The gîte has a surface area of 90m² and sleeps 5. You'll be able to take full advantage of the natural surroundings, walking by the Montalibord pond or along the Bresse footpaths. Camping du Coq, ideally located on the D975 between Bourg-en-Bresse and Tournus, welcomes travelers for a night or vacationers for a longer stay, in a verdant, peaceful setting on the banks of a river. Charming little campsite on the banks of a river (fishing possible) and the greenway. Pleasantly restorative and beautifully flowered estate in a shady green setting. The campsite doesn't offer any entertainment, but the calm and soothing setting encourages you to relax, discover the surrounding tourist sites and go for a bike ride. The VOIE VERTE runs alongside the campsite, providing easy access to other villages, and the ROUTE des 3 MOULINS (starting at the campsite) runs for 25km through the Bresse bocage; 30 fully serviced pitches (sanitary facilities, electricity, water, drainage, wifi...). Two mobile homes (2/4 people) near a traditional inn in the heart of the Bresse bocage. Ideal for a stopover or a quiet stay in a friendly atmosphere. Restaurant on site. The mobile home comprises 2 bedrooms: one with 1 double bed (140) and the other with 2 single beds (80), a bathroom - shower, washbasin and separate toilet - and a fully-equipped kitchen with dining/living area. Bed linen supplied: sheets and towels.
