On this route, you'll discover the vast floodplain of the Saône, which stretches as far as the eye can see. When you reach the banks of the Saône, you can see the Ile de la Motte, which has been designated a sensitive natural area.
Ile de la Motte is home to colonies of herons: black-crowned night heron, little egret and cattle egret, which are sometimes sensitive to disturbance during the breeding season. The existence of the island in the river is also an asset for maintaining fish diversity. Sediments transported by the Saône have been deposited and accumulated at La Motte, gradually creating islets and secondary arms. Together, these form a mosaic of natural habitats with an exceptional diversity of species.
The beaver is present on the site and contributes to its management by cutting willow and poplar branches to eat the bark.
