Set off on a magnificent ridge hike between Baerenkopf and Sudel, offering superb panoramic views of the Vosges valleys and the landscapes of Alsace on this 6.25 km hike. Departure: From Masevaux, follow the signs for Ballon d'Alsace to the village of Kirchberg. In the village, head towards Kirchberg-centre, then follow the signs for Lachtelweiher. After leaving Kirchberg, continue along a mountain road for about 3.5 km until you reach Lake Lachtelweiher. Follow the road around the lake, then park in the car park on the right, below the road. This is where your route begins, surrounded by nature, between forest and open ridges. Sights and points of interest: Ferme Auberge du Lochberg: a gourmet stop in the heart of the pastures. Lachtelweiher Lake: a haven of tranquillity at the foot of the mountains. Oratory of the Virgin Mary: discreet and peaceful, it marks a spiritual pause along the way. Baerenkopf: the highest point of the hike, with a breathtaking view of the surrounding valleys.

After leaving the village, continue along the mountain road for about 3.5 km until you reach Lachtelweiher lake. Then follow the road around the lake and park in the car park on the right, slightly below the road. This is where your hike begins, in the heart of a peaceful, unspoilt environment. Sights and points of interest along the route Lachtelweiher Lake: a charming lake nestled in lush greenery, ideal for a contemplative break or picnic. Oratory of the Virgin Mary: a small, discreet place of worship imbued with serenity. Ridge line: offers magnificent views of the surrounding valleys, particularly towards the Alsace Plain and the Vosges peaks. Neuberg shelter: perfect for a break sheltered from the wind. Baerenkopf: summit offering a remarkable panorama, the highlight of the route. You will walk through a preserved forest setting. The path, marked by a red castle on a white background by the Club Vosgien, leads you to the Château du Montori, whose ruins have been an archaeological site since 2017 under the auspices of the Town of Masevaux-Niederbruck and the Société d'Histoire de la Vallée (Valley History Society). At the highest point, you will have a beautiful view of Masevaux and, in particular, the Abbey estate that the lords of the castle were supposed to protect. The legend of the Montori carriage: This route takes you to Montori Castle, the subject of the old legend of the Montori carriage, known in Alsatian as ‘die Montorikütscha’. The fearsome lords of Montori would leave their castle around midnight in a carriage drawn by headless white horses to hold council at the town hall in Masevaux. The carriage moved at a rapid pace and made a deafening noise. The carriage's passage through the town was frightening. The windows shook, the doors groaned, and the beams and floors creaked so loudly that one expected to see the devil himself emerge from hell! The appearance of the lords, who spoke a language that no one understood, was enough to repel even the bravest, and woe betide anyone who dared to spy on them! A brave lady, who was trying to catch a glimpse of the carriage through a crack in her shutter, was violently thrown backwards by a supernatural force. A poor man, who had lost his way in the forest, found himself unwittingly in the path of the carriage, which crushed him without mercy. When they arrived at the town hall, the lords held their nightly meeting, but what did they discuss? No one knows... Around one or two in the morning, the Montori carriage left the building with a terrifying noise. It crossed the market square to reach the Cour du Chapitre, and disappeared, swallowed up by the ground that opened and closed. The Montori carriage was reportedly heard for the last time in 1913, which foreshadowed difficult times ahead.

Departing from Lausanne, head to the medieval town of Gruyères, home to the famous Swiss cheese!  Leave Lausanne by bus and climb up into the alpine pastures to reach Gruyères.  After a tour around the town, your guide will take you to a Swiss chocolate factory to show you how famous Swiss chocolate is made.  Then head to an old alpine cheese factory. Enjoy a Swiss cheese tasting and learn more about the national dish: fondue.  Learn to make your own Swiss fondue and try the traditional dish.  After your meal, relax and climb on board the Golden Express, a panoramic train which crosses the alpine pastures and the heights of Lake Geneva. Located in the valley at 900m! Domain of 20 hectares with a green track and a red track appearing among the longest of the Vosges!

[Currently undergoing restoration work until October 2025] From the top of the rocky promontory of Eichstein, the Virgin of Alsace watches over Niederbruck and the Doller Valley. Sculpted by Antoine Bourdelle in 1923, she is made of grey Chauvigny limestone. Before her inauguration on October 7, 1923, the sculpture was exhibited at the Autumn Salon in Paris. Her story: At the beginning of World War I, the village mayor and owner of the copperworks, Joseph Vogt (mayor of Niederbruck from 1891 to 1919), and his wife promised to erect a statue on the Eichstein rock if the factory and the valley were spared. Their wish was granted. After Joseph Vogt's death, his son Léon fulfilled the promise. The plaque on the statue’s pedestal bears the inscription: "In gratitude for the divine protection over the Masevaux valley and the return of Alsace-Lorraine to France — the spouses Joseph Vogt 1914–1918." Access to the Virgin is only on foot via a moderate hiking trail. The path begins at the edge of the bike trail, where it enters the forest. Follow the blue circle markers. Upon arrival at the Virgin, you will enjoy a view of the village and the Triebelskopf and Heindenkopf mountains.

With its pedestrianized city center, Masevaux has become a very welcoming town. Known as a flower-filled town awarded 4 flowers, it won the national grand prize in 2000 and the Golden Flower (Fleur d’Or) in 2015. It can be discovered in all seasons, especially through its historical and tourist circuit during the summer. Numerous events take place throughout the year, including the Pumpkin Festival, the Magical Christmas Walk, flea markets, and street fairs.

The church was built in 1786, when the first walls were constructed, carks appeared on them, stopping work for many years.It was only in 1837 that wok started again with the architect Kuen, finishing in 1842. In 1966 a great fire entirely destroyed the church. It took fice years to rebuild it again , in the original noeclassical design. Before the great fire the church housed the famous organs built by the Callinet brothers.The largest were as large as the Nave. The largest that the Callinet's had ever (19m). A new organ was built in 1975 by Akfred Kern from Strasbourg, completed with a Schwenkedel heart organ (1972). Thanks to both of these instruments, the International Organ festival has taken place in Masevaux since 1977, contributing to Masevaux's renown.

Built between 1868 and 1870 under the impetus of Father Adam, who was both architect and master builder, the church of Lauw stands out as an iconic landmark of the village. Its Franche-Comté-style roof, with its geometric patterns and bright colours, is a strong element of local identity, recognisable among all others in the valley. Transferred to the municipality in 1987 by the parish council, the church, along with all its parish property, became part of the municipal heritage. Over time, the building suffered damage during the two world wars. Carefully restored, it has been returned to its former glory thanks to the successive interventions of the painters Greth and then Talenti, who have brought it back to life while respecting its spiritual character. In 2002, a significant event further strengthened the link between the parish and the municipality: two new bells were jointly acquired. This was a first, as until then the bells had come from another parish, recovered after the initial construction of the building.

Located in the heart of the Ballons des Vosges Natural Park, Le Ballon d'Alsace is at the top of the Southern Vosges. This distinctive site reaches 1,247 m. The ideal spot for skiing as a family, it offers numerous activity options from cross-country to downhill skiing, as well as traditional snowshoeing. Those passionate about unusual winter sports will love the snowpark where you can try your hand at dog sledding.

The restaurant, open since June 2023, offers a daily menu and two options: a gourmet menu based on the Flavors of Alsace and a Suggestions menu which changes according to arrivals. The chef offers gourmet, tasty and imaginative cuisine. You can enjoy a beer brewed in Alsace and tartes flambées (Flammekueche) at lunchtime or in the evening. A beautiful list of around 50 wines from all over France gives pride of place to Alsace with three winegrowers and a wide range of wines by the glass. The decoration is the strong point of the room, adorned with magnificent chandeliers and woodwork created by cabinetmakers. In summer, the terrace welcomes customers in the shade of its large tree. An annex room of the restaurant with personalized decoration can be privatized for 30 people, it includes a screen and projection equipment. A team of 8 people works at the Hostellerie Alsacienne with a smile and a warm ear. The Hostellerie houses 5 apartments, gîtes for short-term rental.
