A special place, assembling a collection of objects associated with the famous French composer in the house where he was born: Claude Debussy's birthplace is located in the historic quarter of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. It was in this 17-century house in the town that Claude Debussy was born, on 22 August 1862, and spent his early childhood. His father ran a china shop on the ground floor. After the composer's death in 1918, it soon became the main gathering place of his many admirers. Once inside, you will discover a wonderful little inner courtyard, where a splendid wooden staircase will lead you up to the museum. The museum, officially recognised as a 'Maison des illustres' ('Houses of the Famous'), displays objects and photographs that help provide a better understanding of the composer's creative process. In fact, Debussy liked to surround himself with objects from different places and artistic movements, which influenced his music. For example, a Japanese lacquered panel, which came from his Parisian mansion, depicting two fish swimming under a willow, musically metamorphosed into 'Poissons d'or', a piano piece (1907). This instructive break will have put me in joy before putting my feet in the water!

In Saint-Georges-du-Vièvre, in the heart of a bucolic Normandy, explore this medieval church. Saint Georges Church comprises a bell tower with a hip roof, a 19th century nave and a rectangular choir dating from the end of the 13th century that goes with a 12th century tower on the northern side, traces it has kept from its medieval past. During the restoration works of the paving of the choir, a well was discovered in the north-east side of the church. Abbot Corbet decided to use different tiles to show the location of this well. Stained-glass windows depict Saint Georges' life. Quirky detail: on the outside walls, you can see nails that were hammered by believers to ask or thank for healing, as well as feet, boat and glasses graffiti.

Saint-Georges was famous for its hand-woven fabrics for individuals. On the village's main square, linen cloth was sold and was known as "fleuret", "blancard" or "Saint Georges cloth". During your visit of the village, do not miss Saint Georges' Church, comprising a 19th century nave and a late 13th century choir (higher than the nave) with a 12th century tower on the northern side.

With 300 armed men, it is considered as the most important underground resistance group in Normandy. The Surcouf joined the Allies during the Liberation of Normandy and continued as the 1st march batallion in Normandy. The permanent exhibition "Sur les Pas des Maquisards" (Follow the footsteps of the Maquisards) is divided into several themes that explain, among other things, daily life under the German Occupation, the Maquis' operations, the Liberation, the martyrs of the Resistance Movement, the Maquis Surcouf Memorial and other places of remembrance. The Maquis Surcouf Resistance Movement was founded in the Lieuvin area in 1942 and developed thanks to the extraordinary network of holloways and isolated farms in this area. Thanks to their actions, the men belonging to the Maquis made the area dangerous and hostile for the German troops.
