Discover local history through eclecticism and encyclopedism! The Musée Charbonneau-Lassay houses rich and varied collections, largely bequeathed by the scholar Louis Charbonneau-Lassay (1871-1946): archaeological objects from the region and beyond, old books, swords and firearms. Today, his collection coexists with 19th-century paintings, emblematic pieces of folk art from the Loudun region, and an astonishing collection of African art, including imposing ritual masks. Housed in a former 18th-century mansion in the town's oldest quarter, the museum stands alongside listed historic monuments such as the Porte du Martray and the remarkable Gothic church of St-Hilaire.

Fortified during the 15th and 16th centuries, this former church of the Carmelite convent is a remarkable testimony of the end of the Gothic period in Poitou (south portal). The single nave ends with a flat chevet pierced by a large bay with flamboyant filling. The 19th century stained glass window represents the resurrection after the painting by Raphael. The restoration of the monument has brought out the sculpted decoration as finely as lace.
