Eglise Saint-Hilaire du Martray
Description
Fortified during the 15th and 16th centuries, this former church of the Carmelite convent is a remarkable testimony of the end of the Gothic period in Poitou (south portal). The single nave ends with a flat chevet pierced by a large bay with flamboyant filling. The 19th century stained glass window represents the resurrection after the painting by Raphael. The restoration of the monument has brought out the sculpted decoration as finely as lace.
To be seen inside: the painting (painted panel) "Virgin and Child, known as Our Lady of Recouvrance" after restoration.
