It is by taking part of the Mios-Bazas cycle path that you can admire the landscapes of the Bazadais as well as some testimonies of its glorious past such as the castle of Roquetaillade.

Bazas is a city admirably fortified by nature and needed only a few works of art to be impregnable. The Roman presence is a given. A house was not built there without finding in the foundations bricks, coins, shards of vases or other objects from this remote period. Bazas was thus characterized as a Gallic oppidum, the famous Cossio, which became the capital of the City of Vasates in the 4th century. The town was built on a rocky promontory that juts out between two deep valleys. Of natural appearance and triangular shape, this promontory was narrowed at its base, where a cut had been dug, and protected on both sides by steep slopes, one descending southward to the stream Beuve, which flows at the bottom of the valley, and the other northward to one of its tributaries.

These Romanesque churches of the Bazadais were all attached to the diocese of Bazas. Most of them were built in the 12th century, sometimes with earlier construction campaigns, as evidenced by certain portions of the walls made of small rubble stones, associated with narrow elongated bays with monolithic skirting boards. The apses are often semi-circular, the one of Gajac presenting a remarkable decoration of interior arcatures. The capitals are not without originality. Extending a vast and high nave, the straight chevets of the churches of Sainte-Praxède de Sauviac and Saint Michel de la Prade are characteristic of buildings with a simple 11th century plan. Due to the disasters of the time (Hundred Years War, Wars of Religion), all these churches have suffered a lot. A former collegiate church, now listed as a historical monument, which houses the tomb of Pope Clement V. Château Guiraud takes its name from a Bordeaux negociant, Pierre Guiraud, who purchased the estate in 1766. Included among the first growths in the 1855 classification, Château Guiraud has more than a hundred hectares of vines. This magnificent property is well-known for their natural approach to viticulture. This entailed building an insect hotel, planting five kilometers of hedges, developing genetic diversity, studying and propagating vines in a conservatory, etc. Château Guiraud is currently the only first growth in the 1855 classification to be officially certified for organic viticulture. The estate’s ecological orientation helps to produce great wines with a strong personality and tremendous finesse. Founded in the eighteenth century, Château La Tour Blanche is a 40 hectares estate located in the commune of Bommes. The last owner, Daniel "Osiris" Iffla, left the chateau to the French state, on the condition that a Wine School was set up offering free practical experience.

Château Sigalas Rabaud is the smallest estate of the 1855’s “1er Grands Crus”, with 14 hectares in one piece of homogeneous soil. At the heart of this land, you will find the Charterhouse (situated at less than 500 meters from the Château d'Yquem), surrounded by the storehouse and outbuildings. The vineyard is well exposed to the wind, which dry grapes affected by Botrytis cinerea (also known as noble rot). All the conditions are met to achieve excellence... The work of several centuries, Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Premier Grand Cru Classé de Sauternes in 1855, has been owned by Silvio Denz, who also owns the Lalique crystal factory, since 2014 The vineyard has 18 hectares throughout the appellation. The wine tourism team will be happy to welcome you to discover the history of the vineyard and its wines as well as the fusion between the Lalique crystal factory and the world of a Premier Grand Cru Classé. In the historic cellars, you will discover the Lalique crystal barrel, a unique piece of art created to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the estate.

La Ronde des Ombelles responds to a request expressed by children from the village. Their wish to have access to games was taken up and relayed by the commune. The artist Yves Chaudouët, from the outset, chose to carry the children's words in the sense of a bearer of fire. The children and the project grew up together. It was necessary to get to the point where the first desire could metamorphose in the teenagers that they became, to raise words like embers, to find a poetic form that combines steel and luminescent ceramic, the turnstile and the vegetable maze, etc. La Ronde des Ombelles has never strayed from the first dream. It is now a work of art in seven modules spread over a circle 140 metres in diameter.

They were discovered and reported by L. Cadis in the 1950s. He actively prospected this sector of the Gironde and excavated some of these tumuli. He brought structures to light and collected remains from the 1st Iron Age (funerary urns, metal objects). These tumuli are burials, there are several in the south Gironde and along the Leyre valley.

Discover that the Albret Nobility lived there from the 13th century, followed by famous owners, with the most famous being Henry IV. In the royal apartments, furnished with perfectly preserved furniture from the era, admire the marital bed which the “Vert Galant” shared with Queen Margot. If the interior is exciting and full of treasures which have survived the centuries, you can also stroll around the park among the towering pine trees and discover the Queen’s cave and the bamboo garden. And as you are in a wine region, don’t miss the great medieval cellar where some great Bordeaux vintages are ageing.

Built around 1880, the tilery remained in operation until 1940. Currently restored, it is transformed into a dwelling. The manufacture of tiles and bricks was entirely done by hand using wooden forms and moulds. Firing was carried out in an open-air kiln.

The Ciron is a peaceful river that rises in the north of the Landes region and flows for around 100 kilometers before joining the Garonne. Nicknamed "the river of castles", the Ciron is lined with an exceptional castral heritage. Every autumn morning, the Ciron meets the Garonne, creating a fog that envelops the valley and bathes the Sauternes vineyards. This phenomenon, followed by sun-drying in the afternoon, encourages the development of Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot, which gives the region's wines their unique concentration and aromatic richness. Hiking enthusiasts will find numerous trails along the Ciron. For a more leisurely stroll, the Belvédère du Ciron interpretation trail offers a breathtaking view of the river and its natural environment.

The church, built in the 16th century, was enlarged in 1838. It was rebuilt in 1873, when the Callen family donated the bell tower. Inside, on one of the pillars, the name of the founder of the church, Amédée de Cazeneuve, and the date of 1572 are mentioned in Gothic letters. The side naves are decorated with 17th century wooden altarpieces.

The old parish of Insos was under the Ancien Régime, under the lordship of Cazeneuve for the temporal. After the revolution, it was attached to Préchac. This church, isolated in the middle of the moor, was recently restored. The Romanesque chevet, well preserved, is pierced with lancets and topped by a cornice with sculpted and historiated modillions. It has a very beautiful buttressed gable bell tower, of a homogeneous military character from the 14th century. To the north, it receives a turret containing a spiral stairway.
