These Romanesque churches of the Bazadais were all attached to the diocese of Bazas. Most of them were built in the 12th century, sometimes with earlier construction campaigns, as evidenced by certain portions of the walls made of small rubble stones, associated with narrow elongated bays with monolithic skirting boards. The apses are often semi-circular, the one of Gajac presenting a remarkable decoration of interior arcatures. The capitals are not without originality. Extending a vast and high nave, the straight chevets of the churches of Sainte-Praxède de Sauviac and Saint Michel de la Prade are characteristic of buildings with a simple 11th century plan.
