This getaway which is devoted to historical heritage, follows several trails and a path that is cut into the rock and leads you on the borderline of the Rougier de Camarès, an amazing patchwork of red ochre soils.From the village centre of Sylvanès take a small road (between the Town Hall and the restaurant) that leads to Maxels.In the hamlet, take the left path and ford the brook twice, walk the ascending path up to a trail intersection.Once you have ford across the brook again, take the left trail and walk around the Bataille farm to the right, the trail continues to rise. Walk across the Moulin and go for approximately 600 m up a small road.Before the hamlet of Douzou, take right a track, then at the junction of 4 trails take the one opposite which leads to the Besc hillside catchment reservoir. After the reservoir, take the left trail that gradually rises. Follow this main trail up to a hairpin bend on the right side.100 m after the hairpin bend, take to the left a recently completed pathway (be careful not to miss the trailhead). The path rises zigzagging through the woodland, crosses a 1st trail and joins a 2nd one which is to be followed on the left.Approximately 200 m after this intersection, leave the ascending path to the right and follow the contour line. The hike has already provided magnificent views over the Rougier and far in the distance, offered a first vision of the Montaigut castle. Keep walking up to a field, the logging road runs down to the left and goes along a 2nd field.You soon leave this path to take a track (cairn) which starts to the right of the field. This track crosses a trail and reaches the abandoned farmhouse of Gaujoux. After the farm, go ahead along the track that turns into a path and follows the contour line towards the Montaigut castle. Keep walking on the main path overlooking the Rougier. Discover one of the largest of all peaty areas in the Tarn! You will meet Marguerite and its friends, little Highlands Cattle cows as well as the Drossera, a small carnivorous plant. Time: 1.5 hour - Distance: 3.1 km Start sign on a little ope space beside the road in Lassouts Hamlet. The peat bog of Canroute is a wetland classified as a Natura 2000 area. Highland Cattle, little cows looking as though they had loomed up out of the prehistoric past, help to maintain the peat bog from the end of May to the end of September. This particularly sensitive area inhabits an atypical fauna and flora such as the Drossera, a small carnivorous plant. There are some precautions to be taken before starting this walk: No dogs allowed It is also advisable to have a second pair of shoes and socks (the peat bog is often muddy). You have to cross an electrified fence when the cows are in the meadow. Don’t miss the 360° view on the Puech Cornet at the top of the picnic area. Not practicable on mountain bike

Set off for the final leg of the path that runs throughout the pays du Roquefort.From the Montaigut castle walk up the road for approximately 200 m, then on a left-hand curve take right the rising track that leads towards the pass of the Croix del Pas. Notice the red soil which is typical of the Rougier. During your ascent, enjoy the scenic view over the castle, the Rougier de Camarès, the Monts de Lacaune. Once on the ridge, head towards the East and leave the descending trail to your right to reach the pass of the Croix del Pas.At the cross which marks the crossing from the Dourdou valley to the Sorgues valley, take the path that runs immediately downhill at a right angle to your left. St affrique can be seen far in the distance with a series of beautiful views over the Sorgues valley. Leave several paths on your right and head towards the Guillaumet.The path leads to a field, walk to the right around the field on a logging road. Reach a small brook, do not cross it now but instead follow the path that runs to your right and joins up with a trail which goes across the brook.A little further on, leave that trail and take a track on your right so that you cross the brook once again and walk along its right bank up to the plain. Take on your left the logging road and soon after, follow the path that runs bellow the Guillaumet.Once you get to the Guillaumet, cross a brook, walk up the road to the left for approximately 100 m and take right a path that leads to Vendeloves via the Colombier. Walk through the village of Vendeloves towards St Affrique.At the exit of the village, take a descending path to your right that leads to the banks of the river Sorgues. Walk along the river up to the Gravière recreational area, cross the footbridge and take the green lane that allows to reach St Affrique passing by the former railway station.

Path of departmental interest which passes by the castle of Massuguiès, the charming little hamlet of Saint Michel de Léon and above all the waterfall “Saut de la truite” of St Michel de Léon. Time 5 hours and 15 minutes - Distance 18.5km This walk takes you to the sources of the Dadou in the more rugged highlands coexist with the forested valleys along the river and its tributaries. A castle, a waterfall and small heritage sites can be seen.

Walk downhill through an oak grove up to the well restored water bridge.Follow the trail for 50 m, then leave it and turn left following the sign "Rayssac par les tombes".Walk up the pathMake a round trip to the tombs, then follow the wide trail.At the intersection turn right, then reach the road that leads to the village.

Along wooded trails, reach the Loubière plateau which is a majestic natural border between the Sorgues valley and the Rougier de Camarès and which offers some stunning views over these two landscapes. On the northeast side, the village of Lapeyre and the town of Saint-Affrique linked by the blue line of the Sorgues river.From the carpark of Lapeyre to the Croix del Pas: from the carpark head towards the village and before the bridge take left the path that runs along the river up to the old bridge. Right after the bridge, take the Bourgatte path for approximately 1km. At the junction with the logging trail turn to the left, walk above the Clipis farm and take right an ascending track towards the Croix del Pas.From the Croix del Pas to the Serre des Cabros: at the pass take the most left track, walk through a wooded area and then along a field. At the junction with the logging trail, take right for a few dozen metres a narrow footpath that leads to a scenic view                 over the Rougier and the castle of Montaigut. Walk back to the trail up to a signpost indicating Lapeyre.From the Serre des Cabros to Lapeyre: take the path that runs downhill through boxtrees up to the Puech Mets road. Turn to the right and follow the road until the junction with the D92. Take opposite a path that goes downhill and passes nearby a building. Reach the old track connecting Lapeyre to Sylvanès that runs along the Fon Rouge brook. Once at the D92, take opposite a path that goes downhill across woodlands allowing you to get back to the road near Lapeyre.

The Sorgues river, the Sagnasse wetlands and several small springs irrigate this stroll which runs mainly through forests between valley and plateau. A most beautiful hike!From the carpark to the Pont Vieux : From the car park situated next to the graveyard, take left the D92 road that crosses the bridge and leads to the village. When you get near the bus stop turn to the left and take the rue du Pont Vieux.From the Pont Vieux to the Clipis plateau: Once you’ve crossed the Pont Vieux, take to the right towards Clipis via la Sagnasse. Follow left for 50 m a small rising path through the woodland up to the plateau. Walk around a field, take left a small path that goes up to join the large logging road.From the Clipis plateau to Lapeyre: Turn twice to the left to walk downhill to Lapeyre by following the chemin de la Bourgatte. When you reach the Pont Vieux do not cross it and take to the right the path that runs down, crosses a walkway, goes along the cave and joins the Gissac road nearby the carpark.

Carry on the path which goes parallel to the fields and leave to the right the Clipis trail. When you reach the Puech Mets farm, do not enter the hamlet, but carry straight on towards the buissière. Follow trail markings up to the Croix del Pas.From the Croix del Pas to the Serre des Cabros : at the pass take the most left track that runs through a wooded area and goes along a field. Walk back to the wide trail up to a signpost indicating Lapeyre.From the Serre des Cabros to Lapeyre : take the track that that runs downhill through box trees up to the road to Puech Mets, cross the road and take opposite the path which leads to the D92 and joins Lapeyre.

A rare example in the Midi-Pyrénées region of an unaltered Renaissance leisure residence, where the lords of the Boissezon de Masviel community (now Murat-sur-Vèbre) resided during the reign of Henry IV. Overlooking the hamlet of Canac by roughly one hundred meters, the preserved site offers a wide panorama over the upper Dourdou valley. A family-friendly walk along restored ancient paths leads to the ruins. Experienced hikers will prefer the itinerary “Le Plo de Canac”.

During the 19th century, issues related to water shortages were already a topical concern. This is how, as early as 1862, a project for the implementation of an irrigation canal from the Dourdou banks took shape. The man behind this project was Hippolyte Barascud. This controversial 9 km irrigation canal plan came into existence with the initial works beginning around 1865. The canal stretched from Montlaur to the Montet farm (south of Vabres l’Abbaye). This structure built nearby the river was to suffer from the vagaries of the stream. The floods of the Dourdou caused the silting-up of the canal and its deterioration. In the end, this canal was helpful for a little over a century. The costs and the time required to keep it operational outweighed its convenience.

Part of this building housed the village dairy, which was rented by the Roquefort Société caves. A Société female worker manufactured the cheeses in this premises with the milk collected in the village and the surroundings (around 15 to 20 cheese loaves per day). After that, cheeses were put together and transported by cart once a week to the Roquefort caves.The dairy ceased to operate in the mid-1950s. From then on, the village people took their milk to the dairy in Vabres l’Abbaye.
