We invite you to discover this city with its medieval past before the first pedal strokes! Direction Bort-les-Orgues, the ideal place for a well-deserved break! Between a large cliff more than 2 kilometres long and 80 to 100 metres high, the presence of the large dam with its important water reservoir and the surprising Val castle (dating from the 15th century), it would be a shame to miss it! 12km further on, the circuit invites you to discover the site of St-Nazaire. This site offers a magnificent landscape with a view of the gorges of the Dordogne (reservoir of the Marèges dam) and the Diège. The site of St-Nazaire is considered to be the most beautiful viewpoint in the Dordogne valley and is rated *** by Michelin.

Ussel, roaming between city and countryside, has many stories and legends to whisper to you...Cross avenue Thiers to reach rue des Postes, then go left down rue Michelet (entrance of the museum of the Country of Ussel on the right), then right on rue Alphonse Chabrat and immediately right by the passage which leads to the museum square. Go across it to rue François Grabie and join Boulevard Clémenceau.Cross the boulevard, turn right for a few metres and enter the historic centre on the left by rue St-Martin.Walk on alongside the church on the left, and turn right into Place du Sénéchal, which becomes rue des Fossés. Turn left into rue Seclide. 40 m further down, turn left into rue des Ventadours. Continue straight ahead on rue des Troubadours, turn right into rue du 4 septembre and then right again into rue Esparvier. Pass the covered market and continue straight on to the boulevard.Go up towards La Courtine. At the intersection on the left, take the second street up to the cemetery. Go along it on the right and go down to the Diège.Cross the bridge and go straight up to the hamlet of Mareille. Turn left at the first house and left again. Follow the road to the left for 1 km until you reach the D 157. Turn right towards the Ponty tourist centre, then take the second road on the left to the petanque grounds.When you get to the lake, continue alongside it on the left towards the restaurant. Take the slightly higher path past a tennis court to the lake dam. Then turn left onto the road that leads to the gîtes. 150 m further on, go down by the mountain bike stadium, then go up by the winding path. At the top, turn left and go straight on. The path goes down through the wood, on the left, to join the D157. Turn right, go on for 150 m, and go down a path on the left just after the shopping centre road.Walk along the Diège, take the footbridge and go up as far as avenue Turgot. Turn left towards rue Michelet, turn right at the first road, then left onto avenue Thiers.

The 12 km long circuit invites you to the edge of Lake Ponty to start. This charming 18 hectare lake will not fail to offer you a beautiful landscape show thanks to the natural setting between lake and forests. After a few kilometres, it will be time to make a short stop in the small village of Chaveroche! Meet at the highest point in the village, the Puy de Queyriaux, which rises to 787 m. The site offers a magnificent view of the surrounding countryside and the Puy de Sancy. The route then leads back to Lake Ponty, but you can also visit the pretty little town of Ussel not far from there. The town was under Roman rule and then English rule during the Hundred Years War. If you pay attention, you can see the traces of their passage in the town.

In the Middle Ages, Ussel was the fief of the famous Ussel and Ventadour families. The latter were the owners of this house, a jewel of Ussellan architecture, built following the collapse of the chateau in the 16th century.

Situated on the final spur of the Plateau de Millevaches, between Diège and Sarsonne, Ussel is a fine example of the Corrèze's medieval past. This old town was once a judicial and ducal centre and the seat of the seneschal of Ventadour; the lords of Ventadour built a town mansion here in the 16C. The old town is home to Renaissance-style houses, a museum and churches housing some fine examples of religious art.

Place Voltaire in Ussel is the home of this Roman eagle, carved in granite. It was discovered near the Peuch mill southeast of Ussel. Dating from the Roman period, it could have been placed over a funerary monument that had disappeared. Without a head when it was discovered, a head was added in 1804 by the sculptor Pic in honour of the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte. The eagle is a feminine name when it becomes a symbol of the Roman or Napoleonic empire.

Opened in 1976, this "Museum of France" is devoted to the history, arts and traditions of the Ussel region, between the Millevaches plateau, the Triouzoune valley and the upper Dordogne valley.

An amazing viewpoint overlooking the highest volcano in metropolitan France, the Puy de Sancy. At 1,885 metres above sea level, this summit is the highest point of the Massif Central. The two streams, the Dore and the Dogne, originate there, and their confluence forms the Dordogne.

This popular fishing, running and walking lake at the foot of the Millevaches plateau, surrounded by wooded areas, is home to ducks, moorhens and water lilies. Information panels on the flora and fauna are scattered around the 18-hectare lake, which can be circumnavigated on foot in 35 minutes.

The villages of Limousin were all strongly involved in agriculture. Walking through these hamlets always produces interesting discoveries during a hike: Barns, manor houses, crosses, traditional rural buildings... At the entrance to the village of la Vedrenne, don't miss the old bread oven.

Michèle welcomes you in her family house in a limousin cattle farm. Bedrooms are arranged on the first floor. There is one bathroom for the two bedrooms and a large flower garden around the house with outdoor games for children. Meals are served in the evenings with the owners.
