Welcome to the commune of Bégadan, a very old commune that is both winegrowing and facing the Gironde estuary. This hiking route along the vineyards and the estuary offers beautiful panoramic views.

Following the mouth of the Gironde, the path of the legend of Amadour then crosses the route of prestigious wine estates, Médoc grands crus such as Château Lafite-Rothschild and Château Grand-Puy Ducasse. Upon arriving in Pauillac, the walk ends along the quays, where one can see the Patiras lighthouse, which has guided ships from its island for more than 100 years.

At the bend in the road you can see the Green Lizard Lacerta Viridis basking in the sun or a European Study Ernis Orbicularis... In the 1980s, Adrien Uijttewaal, a Dutch farmer, moved to the Médoc. He bought vines of about thirty years old as well as a 19th century mansion built by a family of Dutch engineers who came to clean up the Médoc marshes in the 17th century. Until 1994, the harvests were vinified in a cooperative cellar. 1995 is the first vintage to be vinified directly by the owner. Since 2003, the property has been recognised as a "Cru Bourgeois".

In the 12th century, an abbey was founded in Pleine-Selve on the estate that our winery occupies. Built between 1145 and 1150, it occupied a strategic position between Aquitaine and Saintonge. It also served as a relay on the road to Santiago de Compostela, and was home to the Premonstratensian order, which was responsible for exploiting the surrounding land and encouraging the settlement and evangelization of the rebellious population. Its prosperity was important until its destruction by the French troops returning from the sieges of Blaye and Bourg in the 15th century. The old abbey church became part of the church of Pleine-Selve and there are still some remains in the heart of the vineyard. We produce red, white and rosé wine in AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux on a surface of 21,5 ha.

Winegrowing château with a family of winegrowers for 2 generations. The vineyard, located in the north of the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, on the slopes overlooking the Gironde estuary, benefits from an average of 240 days of sunshine per year. Its exposure, in the heart of this hilly landscape, and the richness of its terroir allow us to obtain wines of great generosity. We produce red and white AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux rosé as well as Crémant de Bordeaux brut and Perle de Lussan (Méthode rosé).

The Terrigeol vineyards span 2 appellations and make full use of their location to produce all sorts of grape-based drinks (wine, brandy and alcoholic partially fermented grape juice, known as mistelle). They would be delighted to welcome you to one of the first wine-tasting rooms to open in the region.

Château la Martellerie respects a know-how specific to the grands crus. The grapes are turned into wine, aged and put in bottle at the property. The vineyard is located on clay-limestone hills.

A Special Jury Prize-winner in the “Discovery and Innovation” category of the Best Of Wine Tourism 2009 competition, Château La Rose Bellevue is a highly original wine estate with a secret garden and good food and wine outings along the water. Indoor and outdoor activities are available for children. In the summer, go for a sail along the estuary in a motorboat, and savour a copious platter of seafood, served with wines from the property.

The port is located in the estey de By, where the Grand chenal de By and Petit chenal de By join. The remains of the old inclined slipway with a few mooring bollards can still be seen on the north bank of the Grand Chenal. Pegs and a few wooden pontoons are used to moor boats. The water level is regulated by a floodgate, equipped upstream with two sliding shovels. The gate forms a bridge over the channel, which is crossed by Route Départementale No. 2. At the end of the 20th century, the transport of goods, in particular wine shipped to the Charente, declined, leading to the abandonment and disappearance of the slipway, and the conversion of the quay into a picnic area.

A 3-dimensional sculpture in steel-corten with a span of around 3 meters, based on a drawing by Edgard Pillet from the animated film Genèse (1952), held at the Musée Pompidou. It is permanently installed on the banks of the Gironde estuary, on the port, in Saint-Christoly-Médoc, Edgard Pillet?s birthplace. It was created by the abstract sculptor Mpcem, who met the artist at the end of his life and was deeply influenced by his crucibles and sculptures.

The château La Tour de By welcomes you with a tour of the old vatroom, the collection of viticulture tools and cooperage. Different wines tastings and several vintages will be offered to you for free. Visitors can have a walk as their convenience around the vineyard observing the panoramic view on the Gironde estuary from the impressive Tour de By who was a lighthouse in 1825.
