From the Gironde estuary to the Atlantic Ocean, this itinerary is an ideal nature walk for the whole family in Le Verdon sur Mer. Located a few kilometres from Soulac-sur-Mer, this route offers a diversity of landscapes: maritime pine forests, marshes.. The itinerary that we propose to you borrows several types of ways: streets in the city center, a cycle track, a forest road and a forest road in limestone. There is no continuous signposting throughout the walk, but the paths are logical and the description of the itinerary will be enough to guide you.

Situated at the entrance to the beach and the forest, we welcome you to our quiet, contemporary-style house. You can book either the "Étage" (upstairs) of the house, which can accommodate 1 to 4 people, with its two bedrooms and bathroom, or the "Annexe", which is a room in a wooden chalet in the garden, with its own shower room and separate entrance to the property. You will have free access to our living room and wifi. Each room has its own private terrace. Breakfast is included. You can relax either on the terrace reserved for the occupants of the "Étage" or on the private wooden terrace of the "Annexe". For your complete well-being, we also offer (at an additional cost) access to our private balneotherapy spa, as well as relaxation, sophrology and reiki sessions. Sleeping arrangements: - "l'Étage" comprises two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed (160cm), and the other with two single beds (90cm). Sleeps 1 to 4 people. Both bedrooms have private bathrooms. The Cordouan lighthouse, located at the mouth of the Gironde estuary, is the only lighthouse on the French coast still manned, the oldest still in operation and the only one in the world open to visitors. An absolutely unique site, it offers an exceptional view of the Gironde and the coasts of Royandy and the Médoc as a reward for climbing the 311 steps leading up to the lantern. Its classification as a Monument Historique in 1862, the same year as Notre-Dame de Paris, speaks volumes for the beauty of its castle-like architecture. The rocky islet on which it rests, completely covered at high tide, shelters an environment rich in plant and animal species. These locks constitute a remarkable hydraulic junction. It is the point of convergence of the main rivers of the Marais Poitevin where Deux-Sèvres, Charente-Maritime and Vendée meet. Several locks form this exceptional and ingenious hydraulic junction allowing the management of water in the Marais. You will find in Bazoin the only pier allowing to make the junction between the Charente-Maritime and the wet marsh (Venise Verte).

We are a family farm in the heart of the Marais Poitevin. We have various activities: Livestock 350 goats, cheese, cereal crops and rearing suckler cows limousines bio. We invite you every Tuesday and Friday from 17h to 19h, to visit the farm and see the cheese. We will offer you to taste cheese and watch the milking takes place at 18pm. We are also present on the markets of Niort (Saturday), from Saint-Hilaire-la-Palud (Sunday) of Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan (Tuesday) and Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon (1 and 3rd Wednesday of the month).

In 1315, the Lord of Mauzé “had land cut off” to create a port. In 1714, King Claude Masse’s engineer visited the port of Chaban and Mauzé, which was threatened with ruin. A canal project was examined in 1808 by Napoleon I. From 1843 to 45, the Mignon canal was built from the Bazoin lock to the port of Gueux (near Sazay), then extended from 1880 to 83 to Mauzé to connect the municipality to the sea by the Sèvre Niortaise and allow the transport by gauge of goods. Quickly competed by rail, then the road, the largest port of Green Venice is soon abandoned. In 1996, it was rehabilitated as part of the Grand Travaux du Marais poitevin, but remained inaccessible to boats since the canal is currently navigable from Bazoin to a little upstream of La Grève-s.-le-Mignon.

Located in the heart of the Marais sauvage, emblematic landscape of the Venise Verte, St-Hilaire-La-Palud gives you access to more than 100 km of waterways and white paths. From the Latin palus meaning marsh, the Paludens maintain the know-how and traditions through the numerous summer animations provided by volunteers. The villages of La Rivière and Montfaucon bear witness to the flourishing river trade of the early 18th century. The hamlets of Névoire keep the memory of the brick and tile making activity, once very present. The bird park of the Marais Poitevin is now the spearhead of a tourism respectful of nature and men.

It is a natural space of 8 ha, in the heart of the wild marsh, in which are presented more than 70 species of birds of the Marais Poitevin and the domestic animals created in the Poitou. In order to recognize them, information panels and initiation modules to ornithology are at your disposal along the discovery path. You can also learn to recognize the trees and wild plants of the wet marsh. At the end of the visit, a film will make you fly over the landscapes of the Marais Poitevin and you will discover in their intimacy the birds of this region. A labyrinth awaits you, punctuated with educational panels on migration.

The Pointe de Grave is the extreme north of the Médoc, between Bordeaux and the Atlantic Ocean. It is located at the mouth of the Gironde Estuary, opposite the town of Royan. This geographical configuration, unique in France, makes it of great ornithological interest during pre-marital migration: the "funnel" effect concentrates the birds that migrate along the coast and those that, further inland, are reluctant to cross the estuary and follow the bank to its end. These two flows then converge above the Pointe de Grave before crossing the estuary in the direction of the Charente-Maritime and, beyond, towards Northern Europe and Siberia LPO Aquitaine coordinates the scientific monitoring of the migration, carried out every year from March to May. More than a hundred species are observed during the three months of monitoring.

The terrace on stilts offers a culinary escape orchestrated by Evangélia and her sons in a setting that captures the very essence of the ocean while enjoying the setting sun. The team will be delighted to welcome seafood lovers to share the flavours of the sea. The producer is present at the La Faute-sur-Mer market on Thursdays (April to September) and Sundays (all year round). A shop is also available at the port of L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer, open all year round.

Choose from the menus and a la carte, meat, seafood (oysters, whelks, langoustine, prawns, gambas, crab) and fish (sea bream, salmon, sea bass, monkfish, haddock...) from the fish auction in Les Sables d'Olonne. The setting of this family restaurant, taken over in 2022 by Anthony and Edwige, is bright and warm, in keeping with their welcome and decorated on the theme of the sea. Enjoy a delicious meal with the sun setting over the Lay estuary. Anthony works with the Bertrand company in L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer, the fish auction in Les Sables d'Olonne and the cannery on the Ile d'Yeu.
