The coastal path from Port de la Madrague to Bandol

The coastal path from Port de la Madrague to Bandol

Starting from the Calanque of Port d’Alon, this sportive path is drawn at the top of the coastal cliffs and overhangs the shore until the Pointe Fauconnière. Go exploring the preserved nature, beautiful landscapes and confidential coves. The start of this sporty hike, rich in sublime scenery and views, is at the end of the Madrague harbour. Take the stairs and follow the small passage on the right, between the houses. Descend to Plage de la Reinette and continue along the shore. After Plage de la Reinette, observe the petrifying spring with its travertine formation, a rare geological curiosity. Caution: slippery stretch along Plage de la Reinette. At the junction of the Pointe Grenier Heritage Trail and the Coastal Trail, a wooden sign informs you that you are beginning the Coastal Trail. Take the uphill walk to the left and follow the yellow markings. (This part is a challenging climb). After climbing all the steps, cross a tarmac road and take the 2nd staircase with wooden sleepers. This sporty section towards Pointe Fauconnière continues uphill, after a few bends, always following the yellow markings. Continue uphill on a steep, dirt path (Caution: can be slippery in wet weather). At the high point, enjoy a fine view of the surrounding hills, pine forests and the Sainte Baume massif in the background. Then a little further on. On the left, a panorama of vineyards and the Port d'Alon seafront (Pointe des Termes and Baie de la Moutte); on the right, a view of the village of Saint Cyr, the Madrague district and Baie des Lecques. Descend towards Pointe Fauconnière and the sea on a stony path. You'll enjoy a fine view of Cap Sicié and the Port d'Alon estate, and a fine view of Baie des Lecques, Bec de l'aigle and Pointe Grenier. Caution: do not follow the blue markers to the right! After an hour's walk, you've reached Pointe Fauconnière! A superb view of the Sainte Baume massif and Pointe Grenier awaits you. Below the viewpoint, carefully descend to the left after the pointe (keep following the yellow markings) and continue along the coastal path to the Calanque de Port d'Alon. Caution / Danger: Do not head for Pointe Grenier as the path is definitively closed due to rockfall and cliff instability. This steep, stony section of path offers a succession of beautiful views and enchanting landscapes. Pass the villas and private estate of Port d'Alon. Pass the esplanade and finally the calanque du Défens. This impressive stretch offers a magnificent opportunity to appreciate the shades of blue in the sea. After the second esplanade, a sign indicates the junction with the "sentier du Défens", which passes through the pine forest, set back from the coast. After a 10-minute walk, you'll come to the Jeoffrey cove - signpost N°15 to the Port d'Alon cove. At the calanque de Port d'Alon, with its majestic pine trees, enjoy a swim or a break in the shade before continuing on to Bandol. Water and toilets are available in season. Take the rocky path on the left of the Calanque de Port d'Alon. On the way, you'll see the Rocher de la Galère, also known as Le Sous-Marin (access to the cove is prohibited by decree N°2001-05-777). As far as Pointe des Engraviers, take advantage of the shady passages formed by the Mediterranean pine forests shaped by the wind, and the views over Ile Rousse and the Embiez archipelago. Continue to Plage des Engraviers, then cross the Athéna residence. Follow the signs to the Capélan peninsula. Follow the coastline, then take the road leading to Plage de Renecros in Bandol. Tip: If you do the whole trail, take the 880 bus from Bandol to Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer (Casino stop at the end of Bandol harbor). Please note that the nearest bus stop to La Madrague (where the trail starts in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer) is the Le viguier stop on avenue de Tauroentum (about 2 km further on foot). From Bandol, you can also consider a return trip by train. Timetables are available on the www.sncf-connect.com/ application (the full name of the station is Saint-Cyr / Les Lecques / La Cadière).

The Heritage Path Of The Pointe Grenier

Closure by municipal by-law of a section of the Littoral Path, between the Pointe Grenier and the Pointe Fauconnière. From the port of la Madrague to the port of Bandol, using the vineyard walk. Hiking route available at the Tourist Office of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer. The Pointe Grenier Heritage Trail Duration 20 minutes Take the stairs and follow the small path on the right, between the houses. Walk down to Reinette beach and continue along the shore. After Reinette beach, look out for the petrifying travertine spring, a rare geological curiosity. Follow the path, almost with your feet in the water, until you come across the remains of Pointe Grenier's industrial past, in particular the three arches of the plaster kilns. Then reach the upper part of the point, which houses the restored remains of a military battery: chapel, powder magazine, barracks and watchtower. From the top, take time to admire the magnificent view over the Baie des Lecques and the Bec de l'Aigle. In view of the instability of the cliff overhanging the current route of the Sentier du Littoral and the risk of falling boulders and subsidence, the Sentier du Littoral is closed for safety reasons on the section between Pointe Grenier and Pointe Fauconnière. The Sentier du Littoral will remain closed until a diversion on this section is implemented by the state services. For your own safety, we invite you to comply with the signage in place. Return journey compulsory.

La Font des Pères

La Font des Pères

Nestling on a hill surrounded by a 14-hectare vineyard, the unique La Font des Pères welcomes you in style, in a choice setting with stunning views over Mount Caume and the Sainte Baume mountains. The history of Domaine de la Font des Pères dates back to the 13th century, when the Observantine monks adopted this land on an exceptional site, rich in natural springs. The first vines appeared at this time, thanks to the work of the monks, who, keen agronomists and aware of the richness of this hillside, planted numerous food crops, including vines. The place then took the name of its natural resource, the springs (Font), associated with those who exploited them (the fathers). The Domaine de la Font des Pères in Le Beausset is surrounded by vines clinging to steep terraces. The wines are produced in the Bandol, Côtes de Provence and IGP Mont-Caume appellations, using organic farming methods. The estate offers tours and tastings, as well as picnics in the vineyards, which can be booked directly on the website. In addition to wine production, the estate also has a year-round restaurant: La Ferme Auberge, run by Chef Raphaël Linossier, who draws inspiration from the estate's vegetable garden to offer sophisticated, seasonal cuisine. In summer, the Bistrot opens its terrace with homemade sweet and savoury tapas. On-site accommodation enables visitors to enjoy this privileged location over several days, and the various meeting and reception rooms make it an ideal venue for both professional and private events. You can also enjoy Domaine de La Font des Pères wines in the restaurant Le Comptoir de la Font des Pères in Sanary-sur-Mer.

Chapelle Notre Dame du Beausset-Vieux

The chapel was built in the roman-ogival provençal style in the XIIth century by the bishops of Marseilles. It functioned as the local parish church until 1506, the year in which the villagers abandoned the hill. The Chapel of Our Lady of Beausset-Vieux The site is a recognised National Historical Monument since 20 February 1970. The chapel was built in the roman-ogival provençal style in the XIIth century by the bishops of Marseilles. It functioned as the local parish church until 1506, the year in which the villagers abandoned the hill to resume life on the plain below. It remained a place of pilgrimage, however, and today contains a gilded wooden statue of the Virgin created in 1712 by Louis Ollivier in the workshops of Pierre Puget in Toulon (classed a National Historical Monument on 5 December 1983). It also houses a fine collection of ex-votos from the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries (classed a National Historical Monument on 11 September 1995). Since 1961 the Friends of Beausset-Vieux have devoted much time and energy to restore, maintain and exhibit the site and its treasures. (M.H. 1995)THE EX-VOTO OF OUR LADY OF BEAUSSET-VIEUX (M.H. 1995) The precious ex-votos, many created by a local painter, Eusèbe Nicolas, are displayed in a gallery alongside the chapel. These painted miniatures, offered in thanks for favours received, recount the miracles attributed to Our Lady of Beausset-Vieux. A custom which reached its peak in the 19th century, the ex-voto also vividly depicts scenes from the everyday lives of our ancestors. In contrast with other regions of France, the ex-votos of western Provence are found far beyond the traditional milieu of seafarers. THE WAY OF THE SHRINES Twelve shrines, restored by the municipality in 2010, signpost the prilgrim trail from the village to the romanesque chapel. Make the trip and rediscover the traditions and the provençal customs surrounding the saints in whose honour our ancestors erected these shrines. An illustrated brochure (in French) is available from the Tourist Office. SPECTACULOR LOOKOUT At 380m, the summit of Our Lady of Beausset-Vieux offers a breathtaking view of the bay of Saint-Cyr-les-Lecques and the Bec de l’Aigle (Eagle’s Beak) of La Ciotat, the perched villages and the high wooded hills of West Toulon, the vineyards of Bandol and the imposing chain of the Sainte-Baume range. MASS TIMES On 1st Januaryat 10h00 and on 14th August at 17h30 (moved forward from the 15th August). Official pilgrimages : Easter Monday ; Pentecost Monday; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on either the Sunday before or the Sunday after the 8th of September.

"Le Gros Cerveau" forest massif

The "Big Brain" comes from the Provençal "Lou Gro Cervo", which means "the Big Stag", a legendary creature that would have lived in this massif in the 18th century. he Gros Cerveau massif, classified as a natural area of ecological, faunal and floristic interest, culminates at an altitude of 446 metres. It offers breathtaking views over the Mediterranean, from the Gien peninsula to the islands off Marseille, via the splendid Sanary Bay. The massif, accessible by car (D2020) depending on the period, is used by many walkers, hikers (marked trails + GR51), joggers or climbers (10 sport climbing sectors). On the ridge, two defensive fortifications built between 1890 and 1900 are still standing: the Pointe structure and the Gros Cerveau fort. At the bend in the paths, it is not uncommon to come across Rove goats, recognisable by their triangular and twisted horns. These goats accompanied the transhumance of the sheep and in particular provided their milk to the shepherds and the lambs that their mothers could not feed. They are still of great help today, particularly in clearing and maintaining inaccessible areas, which need to be cleared to fight fires. 2 walking circuits to discover: The Belvedere path : From valleys to balconies through the Gros Cerveau fort and the La Pointe fort. Distance: 13 km, positive difference in height: 700 m. Duration: from 5h30. to 6h. Departure from Chemin Sainte Trinide, parking in front of the Olive Garden, near the Zoa Animal Park. The Nerthes Trail : Between Drailles and crests. Family walk. Distance: 8 km, positive difference in height: 300m. Duration: 3h30 and 4h. Departure point: Chemin Sainte Trinide, parkng in front of the Olive Garden, near the Zoa Animal Park. It is forbidden to smoke in the forest areas.
