Like Banca and Urepel, the village of Les Aldudes was built with cadets from the lower part of the valley, mainly families from Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry. "Aldudes" is the contraction of the Basque word aldubide which means "path to the peaks". This etymology illustrates perfectly the course of the route. After the ascent phase, the path, through beech and fern woods, overlooks the valley of the Nive des Aldudes. Gradually, on either side of the border, we reach the rocky ridge of Hargibel and Harrikulunka, the main attractions of this walk. On the way back, which is not too rough and is well shaded at the end, beautiful beech trees accompany the descent and give a glimpse of the landscape.

Nice and regular elevation at 6 or 7% first above the Aldudes valley, then the route becomes more intimate as it enters beautiful hidden valleys and delivers the shoulders with beautiful landscapes until the final balcony always at 7% leading to the border leading to the border.

The exit of the forest is marked by spaces colonized by the fern. There is a clear view of the Nive des Aldudes valley and the village of Saint-Etienne-de-Baïgorry. A loop around the summit starts in the middle of meadows and reaches the Aharza pass. The summit of Oilarandoi and its emblematic chapel require a final effort on a straightforward climb from the pass. The loop continues on a path on the eastern side, which highlights the slopes of Munhoa. You will find shade at the foot of a beautiful beech forest before starting the descent to the village.

From Urepel, the route starts by following the course of the River Nive des Aldudes to the "Gaineko Karrika" (the upper street). From here, the scenery changes, the slope becomes steeper and beautiful trees appear on the way up. The summit of Elizamendi, a grazing area, reveals the landscape of the valley and of "Kintoa" (the Quint country, a hybrid territory on the French-Spanish border). On the last part, along the path, chestnut trees, beech trees and remarkable oaks decorate the route.

All these little people go on transhumance in the summer. The ewes go to the mountains around July 15th and come back down at the end of October. Lambing begins at the end of October. The first lambs will leave around mid-December. There, milking and cheese processing begins and finishes around July 10th. Everything up to the maturing process takes place on the farm.
