Between narrow gorges, tunnels and viaducts, your cycling trip on the Dolce Via here follows the traces of the past. On your way, the old mills and silk weavers' workshops bear witness to the richness of the valley, which once welcomed many workers. The viewpoints on the Eyrieux are numerous and allow for beautiful contemplative pauses. Below the greenway, the calm waters of the river are an invitation to stop. Pont-de-Chervil is an ideal place for a refreshing moment halfway through the stage. You can walk further and further into the Eyrieux gorges, in the heart of an environment that sparkles with green and orange in the autumn, because here the chestnut tree is king.

As soon as it leaves Le Cheylard, the cycle route changes its scenery: the Dolce Via, with the Eyrieux as its main thread, now runs into the steep valleys of the Boutières. If today the route can be travelled by bike without effort, imagine for a moment the construction of the railway at the end of the 19th century, which is the result of a real technological feat due to the nature of the terrain. The last vestiges of this extraordinary railway past, the viaducts, tunnels, bridges and trenches, all carved out with the strength of your wrist, accompany you to Saint-Agrève. The scenery changes on this side towards the north-east. The cycle route, still on greenways, gets higher and higher and every pedal stroke is a wonder. Five viaducts, two bridges and three tunnels later, the landscapes of the Boutières and the Monts d'Ardèche, with the Mont Gerbier de Jonc and the Mont Mézenc in the background, await you. A nice reward before arriving at the pass and crossing the mountain by the Nonières tunnel, the longest of the Dolce Via with its 320 metres (lit!). You can then peacefully drive the remaining 12 km to Lamastre on almost freewheels. Here, a mythical steam train awaits you for an incomparable discovery of the Gorges du Doux to Tournon-Saint-Jean and ViaRhôna.

The trail stretches east of the village at the foot of the Bois Madame, crossing meadows, orchards and forests. The climb to the pass follows a very pretty trail through forests and pastures. From the pass, you continue up to Mount Sardier, with a magnificent view over the area. This church of St. John the Evangelist was consecrated in 1492 (when the village was in its heyday). The 17th century proved particularly disastrous: the church was destroyed, and even converted to a Protestant church for 30 years. Boucieu never regained the importance it had enjoyed in the 1400s. The church was rebuilt during the 1700s with donations from local lords, memorials to whom can be seen inside the church (tombstone and sculpted coats-of-arms). During the 1800s, the priest Pierre Vigne breathed new spiritual life into the place.

Désaignes is over 2000 years old and was in its prime in the Middle Ages. The village is still teeming with relics: the remnants of a 12th century fortress, a 14th century château, ramparts and 3 of the 4 gateways to the village. The vestiges are ramparts, three gates - Bourg de l'Holme gate, Janot gate and the oven or Fornate gate bearing the Retourtour family coat of arms -, the 14thC. castle and its keep, the Romanesque church. Then the Huguenots period, strongly linked to the village history with the Protestant church. Désaignes, which is a listed village since 1972, is located in a hilly countryside, a paradise for walking, horse riding and the discovery of botany.

Boucieu le Roi's heyday was in the late 15th century when Pont du Roi bridge was built over the Doux (listed as a Monument Historique). The bridge was built upstream from another, so-called "Roman" bridge. The bridge was built to provide a link with the northern Vivarais region. The bridge has three arches and two abutments.

The building flanked by a watch tower bears testament to the height of Boucieu in the 15th and 16th centuries after Philippe le Bel founded a royal court of justice for the Upper Vivarais area (bailiwick). Closed to the general public. The Maison du Bailli is listed as a Historic Monument. The Bailiwick Court judges all cases of high justice (crimes), royal cases (disputes between lords or between the lord and the king), and judges on appeal.

Pierre Vigne (1670-1740) was a missionary priest who settled in Boucieu le Roi in 1712 where he saw a topographical similarity with Jerusalem. He built a way of the cross with 39 crucifixes in the village and surrounding countryside. in 1715n he founded the Congregation of sisters of Saint Sacrement. The sisters will welcome you for a tour of the museum which reunites objects bearing witness to the missionary's work and faith all year around by appointment.

The village stands between Tournon and Lamastre overlooking one of the Doux's twists and turns. The former capital of the Haut-Vivarais was made a bailiwick by the King of France, Philippe-le-Bel until 1565, hence the name Boucieu-le-Roi. In 1291, King Philip "le Bel" made Boucieu the seat of a bailiwick court, it's a royal court of justice extending over the whole of the Haut Vivarais and made it a royal town that was directly under his authority (hence the name Boucieu-le-Roi). Free land until its replacement by Annonay in 1565, Boucieu-le-Roi had the King and various "coseigneurs" as its lord. The village was deeply marked by Pierre Vigne (1670-1740), missionary priest of Vivarais, whose tomb is in the church. Arriving in 1712 in Boucieu where he decided to stop after seeing topographical similarities with Jerusalem, he founded the Order of the "Saint Sacrement" there in 1715. His missionary work is perpetuated throughout the world thanks to the Sisters of the "Saint Sacrement" , a congregation born in Boucieu-le-Roi. Pierre Vigne was beatified on 3 October 2004 by Pope John Paul II. Saint John’s Church The Evangelist: Consecrated in 1492 it was partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion (16th century) and then restored in the 17th century. Of the early church only the central part of the facade remains. In this church, a place of pilgrimage, the “Blessed Pierre Vigne” rests. The Bailiff’s House: Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1927, this beautiful house with its corbelled turret was the seat of the Royal Court of Justice. Boucieu is also the place where the velorail starts for an original discover of the gorge of the Doux. The stations of the cross of Boucieu is comped by 35 stations (calles chapels), decorated of sculptures. Starting from the church , it was built 200 years ago. Each year, for the good-friday, many people follow this path. The large Way of the Cross consisted of 39 chapel stations. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the French Revolution and rebuilt a few years later, but the locations of 4 stations have not been found. Today, it comprises 35 stations, a 5 km route through the village and surrounding countryside.

Bozas stretches from the banks of the River Daronne an altitude of 288m up to Madame Wood at an altitude of more than 800m, from where you can get a panoramic view of the Mont Blanc in fine weather. The current church, of recent construction, is built on the site of the former church. The 15th-century castle still has some of its turrets and walls, giving the village a fortified appearance.

Discover the Doux Valley, from the Ardèche mountains to the mouth of the Doux river. This site is classified ENS (Sensitive natural area). The visit is possible by the Train de l'Ardèche from Tournon sur Rhône or by Vélorail in Boucieu le Roi.

Fitted kitchen equipped with 4-burner hob, microwave oven, washing machine and dishwasher, fridge, freezer. Bed linen provided free of charge, as well as 1st breakfast to be prepared at the gîte.
