An idyllic journey! In the heart of the mountains, here you can enjoy a peaceful and charming setting, a chance to get away from it all in the heart of nature. The start is in the centre of Les Orres.From the village, take the D140 towards Embrun, where a short descent brings you to the D40. Turn right. Follow the D40 downhill until you reach a crossroads, shortly after a hairpin bend. From here, take the road on the left towards Le Pont and then Le Mélézet (D540). The road takes a long crossing to reach the village of Le Mélézet from where you can gaze upon the scenery over the mountains. Keep heading in the direction of Embrun and rejoin the D40. Continue on this departmental road, pass a hairpin bend and then, 1 km further on, turn right to reach the centre of Les Orres.

A fun descent on which you can discover the joys of riding with views over the lake below, which you'll reach in no time. Ascend the small road through the village from the church car park. At the first intersection after the fountain, turn right, staying on a small tarmac road. Follow the road towards Le Méale and Crévoux. The route continues along a track past a farm at the heights of the village. Follow the trail on a moderate slope overlooking Lake Serre-Ponçon. After a few hundred metres, the track enters a larch forest. The slope then steepens and becomes even steeper over a short stretch of concrete. After a hundred metres or so, the track is once more made of dirt and twists through the larch grove. 2.8 km from the start, the route passes through a car park in the woods, always taking the track over increasingly flat ground. The descent begins a few hundred metres after the car park. Don't miss the junction 50 m after the start of the descent at the sign for Les Graves sign. Turn left onto a single track and then right after 15m, staying on the single track. Join a wider path on the right and immediately turn left to pick up the trail once more. It then winds through the forest and emerges on a wider path at the end of the forest. Turn left and descend this path until you enter the forest once more. Immediately turn left onto a narrow path that soon leads back to a wide, stony track downhill. At the first hamlet of Saint-Sauveur, you return to the road. Take a footpath to the left at the first junction and follow the road downhill. Leave the hamlet and take the path on the right at the first bend. Turn left at the crossroads in the middle of the fields, staying on a wide path. After a few hundred metres, the path descends back to the road. Turn right through the village of Saint-Sauveur, then pass behind the church. A narrow path leaves the church car park and joins the road. Descend the road for 200 m and take a wide path on the left. Go straight ahead at the first junction, then right through the pines and right again on a narrower path 30 m further on. Head right after returning to a wider path, then left. Veer left again on a single track in the pine forest. Follow the track through the forest. After a long section of single track, turn left onto a wider path on a flat area. Cross the river and turn right just after onto the single track. Continue straight ahead on a wider path. The path ends on a road. Turn right then left onto the departmental road. When you reach the main road, turn left and continue along this road. When you reach the Orres road, follow it down towards Embrun. At the roundabout, take the first exit and continue straight ahead. Then cross the cattle drive to reach the Entraigues shopping area. At the roundabout, go straight on towards the Durance to rejoin the path you took on the outward journey.

This sporty loop takes you up to the summit of Méale, where the view of Lake Serre-Ponçon and the surrounding peaks will reward your efforts. Take Rue du Commun, which turns into a dirt track. A single track leads up to the Méale road. Follow the discovery trail on the right. Turn left just before the hamlet of Haut-Forest for a demanding climb. Follow the hairpins until you reach La Platrière, with its panoramic view over Serre-Ponçon. The view becomes clearer and clearer as the climb continues. Take a right to reach the summit via one of the two paths. Retrace your steps to the last junction, where you need to turn right. A series of hairpins leads to a track that you need to follow briefly. Watch out for the single track on the left that leads to the Forêt car park. Take the track back to the starting point.

A stage with a great deal of added historical value, including Boscodon Abbey, the cemetery of Ubaye and the tunnels of an old railway line.Due to a major forestry project in the Grande Cabane sector (municipality of Crots), this route will be inaccessible from 25 July 2023. At Le Melezet, take the road on the right towards the forest of la Mazelière. At gîte 05, turn right onto the Mazelière road, which then turns into a forest track. (La grande Rocade). Cross the Eysalette stream by the Mazelière bridge and continue on the main track. If in doubt, stick with the less steep option. At DFCI track H18, continue straight on towards "La Montagne" (DFCI H 16). At DFCI H15, turn left up the hill and then straight ahead (leaving the Clos Besson forest road behind you). At the La Draille gîte, go straight ahead down the road. At Thozans (fountain), turn left up the road towards Boscodon. After the Pont de la Grande Cabane, take the path down to the right onto the "Clot Joubert" forest road. (several picnic areas). At Boscodon Abbey, turn right down the road for 2.5 km. /! Slow down and turn left on the main straight towards "le bois" (DFCI H 5). Cross the bridge over the Boscodon and head right down DFCI track H5 . Head up the main path towards Savines (1h30). At DFCI track H6, turn right downhill. At the viewpoint over the Savines le Lac bridge, turn left down DFCI track H6. To reach Savines le Lac, descend to the right; otherwise ascend to the left along the stream. At the DFCI post, leave the road and take the track on the right (DFCI H1). Stay on the main track. At the Pierre Arnoux GRP signpost, continue up the track. (Picnic area and lookout over the lake at Pierre Arnoux) Stay on the main track towards "Fontaine des Miracles". At the DFCI bollard on the inside of the bend, continue uphill to the right. Here there are some picnic areas and the Miracles fountain. (/! after the torrent des Hourmes, presence of ruts). At the intersection (plot 38), continue downhill on the gravel track. At route D7, join Pontis on the left. Cross the village and head up the road towards Morgonnet. At the "Les Terrasses de Pontis" sign, continue up the road and then descend to the cemetery of Ubaye. At the D954, cross the bridge to the left towards Le Lauzet Ubaye. 150m after exiting the 1st tunnel, turn left into a 2nd tunnel. Pass through several tunnels (former railway line). At the Route du Moulin, continue straight on to Le Lauzet Ubaye.

This trai has unmistakenly taken its name from the belvedere overlooking several valleys and mountains in the territory of Serre-Ponçon. From the car park, turn left onto the road.  At the bend, take the track on the left towards the path to Le Méale ("Sentier du Méale").  At the next intersection, stay on the uphill track. Go past the three channelled springs and head towards Les Orres. Enter the state-owned forest of Pouzenc. After a few hundred metres, when you come to some stones and a gate, take the path on the left (sign with a white arrow). At the crossroads, follow signs for Crévoux. When you come to the track, go right towards Le Méale and follow the track running uphill. At the hamlet of Le Serre, turn left. Finally, at the place called « Croix-Pierre », turn left. Follow the path right and this brings you to the top of Le Méale. From here, loop around to the crossroads at the place called « Croix de Serre ». Join the path on the right which brings you back to « Crête du Méale ». At the sign, turn left. At the « Piste de la Plâtrière », head towards the forest car park. On the way, turn right. In Les Clotasses, take the path on the left leading to the car park. When you come to the picnic tables, take the path on the left. At « La combe Noire » ,head to Les Gaillards following the GRP (regional long-distance trail) route.

Follow in the ancient footsteps of the shepherds, along the « Lou Pastre » path from Les Orres, passing through forest, hamlets and alpine pastures. From the car park follow signs for the Lou Pastre long loop (« Lou Pastre Grande Boucle »). After a few metres, continue straight ahead.

A pleasant route through the larch forests of Les Orres, an emblematic species of the southern Alps. From Place de l'Etoile, take the chamois path across the bridge. Stay on the main road until you reach the end. Continue straight ahead, passing under the ski lift and chairlift. After 150 m take a left fork as you descend on a track towards Les Orres 1550. The path runs alongside the ski slope to pass under the chairlift departure station. Go back up the car park and at the end turn right into the meadow. The balcony path alternates between forest and meadow until it reaches the "Les Abouchiers" signpost. From here, continue right on the track and turn right onto a path in the forest. After leaving the forest, continue on the flat. At the crossroads turn left uphill. Turn right into the forest. At the meadow, turn left until you reach a flat area and continue left, skirting the forest in the direction of the chairlift. Once past this point, the return journey takes the same route.

A long and beautiful descent, physically demanding but almost always under the cover of trees. Descend the departmental road then turn left at a place called Pralalègre towards the ranch. Descend the tight hairpin road, then take the path leading to the equestrian centre. Cross the stream and follow a wide path. Cross the bridge over the Eysalettes and continue along the same path. After a few hundred metres, turn left onto the track. Continue straight on to the next intersection. Finally turn right at the next intersection, around a bend, and take a wide path that descends again. Cross a stream. Turn left down a stony slope into the heart of the woods After this stony descent, turn right at a beehive into more open countryside then left on a hairpin 200m below. Join a small hamlet and go 50m down the road. Turn left onto a small road. After about 200m, take a track on the right. The path soon narrows and winds through the woods. Turn left at La Serbie and follow the road down to a hairpin bend, where you turn left under the pines along a winding path. At the end of this path, turn left onto the road and then left again towards the estate of Val Ubaye. At the sign for Vurbaye, take a small path to the right. At the end of the path, take a small road to the right, which is almost immediately followed by a footpath, then join a road and head downhill towards Baratier. Once you reach the village square, go past the town hall then turn right at the exit for the small square and right again onto the road. Then take a path on the left and turn right at the road. At the roundabout, go straight ahead towards Petit Liou. Go down the street then pass under the RN94. Go past the Super U then straight ahead at the roundabout to take the footbridge over the Durance. Then turn left and follow the Durance to the car park

This long and highly technical route, for experienced trail runners only, takes in mountain pastures and ridges. From the Les Orres 1650 snow line, ascend and follow the track that veers to the left shortly after pylon no. 2 of the Prélongis chairlift. Follow it as far as Les Orres 1800 and take a shady single track that will take you to the Lac de Sainte-Marguerite path, passing the ruins of the Eyssalette hut. You will gradually emerge into the mountain pastures crossed by streams to reach Sainte-Marguerite Lake. Now things start to get serious! Turn left onto a rocky path that twists and turns for almost 2 kilometres and leads to the Col de l'Aupillon. Climb right to the Pic de l'Aupillon at 2916m and admire the view of the Alpes de Haute-Provence. Return to the path and take a single track along the ridge to reach the top of the Vallon de Rémolon. Reach the top of the Pousterle chairlift via the hiking trails (11). The descent is by chairlift or on foot (several possible routes: consult the map at the top of the chairlift).

This small, undulating loop through a larch grove follows the old paths used to ascend to the mountain pastures in summer. From the Les Orres 1650 tourist office, go to the Pitchounets children's club, then follow the road uphill to a small car park. The start can be found at the bottom of the hill. After a short passage through undergrowth, head up the 4x4 track for a few metres until you turn left onto an old flat channel. At the end of this channel, begin the climb and pass in front of the Cabane du nain rouge. Keep ascending into the woods. Here you can enjoy a beautiful unobstructed view of the village. Beware; this is quite a vertiginous route: a handrail accompanies you up the few steps you have to climb. A bit further on, take several switchbacks as you descend into the forest. A final ascent takes you to a flat single track that leads back to the start of the route. From this point, the return journey takes the same route as the outward journey.

Chabournéou unveils a world of mountains and glaciers. This former refuge with its authentic atmosphere provides a fine alternative on the Vieux Chaillol Tour or GR54 footpath. Meals available all day. No picnic room. An authentic refuge in an Alpine setting at the foot of the north face of the Sirac. Easy to access along a path with the evocative name of "the minister's path", the refuge welcomes visitors for the skiing season in spring and for climbing and hiking during the summer. Access in 2 hrs 30 min from the Gioberney car park; 450-metre incline.

Characteristic of Hautes-Alpes architecture, it was built around 1501 and is remarkable for its size and painted decorations.

In this small butterfly, the male's upper wings are dark grey, somewhat bluer at the base of the wings, while the female is brown. It is most often seen at higher altitudes, in July and August, in grasslands and meadows. The Arctic blue is a species of northern regions (Scandinavia, Greenland, Siberia, North America) which, in more temperate parts, lives only in the mountains.

This is the Provençal word for shepherd. The trail got its name because of its many traces of pastoral activity along the way. Among other things, you can see the remains of ancient shelters known as muandes. These were used as stopovers between the farm and the mountain pastures during the transhumance up to the summer pastures at the start of the summer and during the transhumance to lower pastures in the autumn..

They can be found in almost every hamlet in Les Orres, but their purpose is no longer purely ornamental. The retaining walls are made of dry stone. They are called restanques in Provence. In steep areas, they can be used to create farmed terraces by retaining the soil. Today, many researchers and craftsmen are trying to bring back this age-old technique.

Traditional houses in the Alps are often built into the slope. This can be explained by the desire to preserve the most easily cultivated land. The location of dwellings must also consider the proximity of water, while ensuring sufficient distance from mountain hazards (flooding, avalanches, landslides, etc.). These houses are generally arranged on three levels. The ground floor houses the stable for the herd and the farmyard. The heat given off by the animals benefits the whole house as it rises. This floor is sometimes also used to store farm tools. The first floor, accessed by a wooden staircase or balcony, is used for living space. Finally, the second floor is occupied by the barn, which is used to store grain and fodder for a whole year..

This species is also known as Centaurea montana. The flowers of the mountain cornflower are melliferous, attracting butterflies and bees. This plant needs cool, moist soil to grow, whence its presence in the Clot la Saume forest. The cut foliage is green and woolly.

The red squirrel or Eurasian squirrel is an arboreal, diurnal rodent. As its name suggests, it can be found over much of the Eurasian continent, but is nonetheless one of the key species in French coniferous and mixed forests. It weighs an average of 600 grams and measures 18 to 20 cm plus a tail of 16 to 20 cm. Its colour varies from reddish to brownish-black, but its belly is always white. It spends much of its life stocking up on food, seeds or acorns, in preparation for winter. In fact, it does not hibernate and only slows down during this period. Squirrels lead solitary lives and only meet other squirrels when they are breeding. The threat of the grey squirrel, which was imported from North America, is better adapted to deciduous forests and carries a deadly virus for its cousin, is worsening in Europe and could soon spread to the Alps.

The church of Saint-Sauveur, also known as the Church of the Transfiguration, was built in the second half of the 15th century. It is easy to identify by its bell tower, which rises high above the town of Embrun and Lake Serre-Ponçon. The interior of the church is particularly notable for its restored murals. They mainly depict the Transfiguration, the period in Christ's life when he revealed his divine nature to his disciples so that they could recognise him as the Messiah.

Mountain refuge located at the source of the Bléone river, at an altitude of 2,050 m in the village of Prads-Haute-Bléone. Accessible only on foot (3h walk). Numerous hikes available, including the Tête de l'Estrop at 2961m of altitude, as well as sport fishing, bouldering and slacklining. Accommodation and catering available by prior arrangement. Catering only at lunchtime. No reservations in July and August.

To enter this house of character is to find the atmosphere of a real "fuste" (traditional house of Saint Véran). To be welcomed by Félicie and François' kind smile is already the promise of a successful stay! To find yourself, to relax, to appreciate the know-how and to take full advantage of the Queyras. The rooms, all different, are distributed in this old fuste (traditional habitat of Saint Véran) from the second floor to the roofs. All renovated, they have their own charm with a view on the surrounding mountain. From the attic room to the room with balcony, they offer elegant and functional comfort in a warm atmosphere. They are all equipped with private bathrooms. The rooms can accommodate from 1 to 6 people. Bed linen and towels are provided. The hosts did not wish to equip the rooms with television or wifi for more conviviality within the house. However, a TV room and a wifi area are available in the living rooms. With family or friends, the living rooms allow you to relax in an authentic setting, by the fire, between stones and old larch. Every evening, we prepare delicious dishes mainly made from local and organic products. They will be served in a restaurant room fitted out in the old sheepfold of the house with the still intact Italian vaults. Don't forget to take your bathing suit to enjoy the sauna!

Self catering and half-board gite for groups and mountain activities stay. Between Ubaye and Lavender, 1100m high, the Flagustelle gîte hosts you at any given time in the year. Near Gap and Digne, close to Seyne and the ski resorts of Chabanon and Montclar and the mountain resorts of Le Grand Puy and Le Fanget. The village of Verdaches will charm you. Hiking and snowshoeing, mountain biking, paragliding, geological and fossils discovery, Land’Art, swim in Lake Serre-Ponçon and in rivers, mountain activities vary throughout the seasons.

Ideally located in the center of the village of Saint-Véran, we welcome you in a friendly and simple atmosphere. We offer a half-board option for a stay in our chalet or for a stopover on the Queyras tour. Welcome to Vincent Mathieu and Laurence Boisier's gîte d'étape et de séjours Les Perce-Neige. Since 1966 in Saint-Véran, in the center of the village, at the start of the Grande Randonnée trails, shuttle bus stop 200 m away, 250 m from the ski slopes.

The owners will advise you on your hiking itineraries and will take you to the mountains on request. The Norwegian bath is available to guests: at Christmas, 2/3 days a week in February-March, and closed in April and summer.

In the heart of Saint-Véran, Europe's highest commune, Nico and Fanny welcome you in a warm, quiet and comfortable setting. In summer or autumn, it's the ideal base camp for hiking. In winter, for skiing or snowshoeing.

Built at the sources of the White Drac, near the disused Champoléon cabin, this refuge with its stone roof offers tasty regional food at lunchtime and copious Alpine meals in the evening. The refuge is easy to access for families: 1 hr 30 mins from the Auberts car park (elevation: 350 m). Large number of hiking trails leaving from the refuge.

Two years later, the French Alpine Club (CAF) took over its management in order to insure shelter for the increasing number of hikers of the GR54. Having become too cramped, the refuge was rebuilt in 1979 on the ruins of the hamlet and became the Chaumette Meadow. The decorative stones were cut on site at  Champoléon. The imposing Lauzes stones used to cover the roof underline the effort made to integrate with the landscape. Today flocks of sheep are brought up to the mountains at the end of June and are visited once a week.
