Hiking trail "The Chestnut trees". This walk will help you discover the hidden treasures of the traditional architecture of the Châtaigneraie, from the 16th century church to the beautiful farms with closed courtyards and entrance porches. The chestnut is celebrated every year in October during the famous Chestnut Fair which attracts thousands of visitors. You can also visit the Maison de la Châtaigne, a museum dedicated to the fruit of the “breadfruit” tree. Saint-Santin is an unusual village. It's hard to imagine driving through it, given its modest size, the fact that it is divided into two communes and straddles two départements and even two regions!

Marie-Pierre in Cantal and Pierre-Marie in Aveyron remember and share with you the daily life of the people of Saint-Santin at the end of the 19th century, a life that is strange, funny and moving...

About 30 species of wild orchids are present on these few hectares which gather a quarter of the French flora and more than half of the Auvergne flora in orchids. The climate of the limestone mounds (former lake basin) located between Saint-Santin-de-Maurs and Montmurat is one of the mildest and driest in Cantal. These conditions give the landscapes, agriculture and natural environments a pronounced southern character. Free access on foot from the village of Saint-Santin-de-Maurs. The animal and plant species living on this Natura 2000 site are protected, so be careful.

As in many Châtaigneraie villages, Le Trioulou has a pretty church and a picturesque castle with turrets. But there's something, or rather someone, you won't find anywhere else: Mélia the bee!

Saint-Constant and Fournoulès have been a single commune since 2016. Yet two very different atmospheres prevail: Saint-Constant looks a little like Aveyron, while Fournoulès has a more mountainous atmosphere.

The southernmost river of Cantal is the Lot River. The valley is situated at 200 meters altitude. The weather is mild and shows another facet of the Châtaigneraie. Enjoy the beautiful panoramas (Montmurat, Aubespeyre), discover the history of the medieval castle, go canoeing...

Visit of the medieval fortress of Vieillevie (11th-13th centuries) in July and August. Storytelling tours (in French): Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. Places are limited, so bookings must be made by text message or e-mail. The castle dominates the Lot Valley from its high towers. It is an authentic defensive fortress: sentry walks, archways, and defensive hoardings. Above the lower rooms carved into the rock, you will discover the large Renaissance rooms with their finely sculpted mullioned windows and their monumental 13th century fireplaces, among the oldest in France.

A fun discovery site dedicated to Auvergne chestnuts. Immerse yourself in the world of the Maison de la Châtaigne, a living reminder of the chestnut-growing past: a 1950s grocery store, bread oven, chestnut dryer, underground galleries, gardens, tree nursery, and animals... Discover the culture of chestnut trees from yesterday to today and watch chestnut flour being made in our processing workshop. Savour a local specialty, explore the gourmet shop with its wide range of chestnut-based products, and enjoy a moment of relaxation in the coffee corner, overlooking the landscape of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne. Wooden games, a parent-powered merry-go-round and little discoveries will delight the whole family!

L'Auberge de Mourjou, with its restaurant and guest rooms, has been open since 18 March 2024. Daily menu (€19,90) from Monday 12pm to Friday 2pm. Chef Kara Asatryan's menu (€39) is available for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and lunch on Sundays. Booking recommended. The chef's menu consists of a choice of two starters, a choice of two main courses and a choice of two desserts. The menu changes every 2 weeks according to the season and her inspiration. You can also make the most of our shaded terrace in fine weather.
