Hiking trail "The Lady of Castel d'Auze". Sénezergues is a small picturesque village irrigated by numerous streams that flow into the River Auze. This path allows you to discover a past full of history and magnificent views of the Don Gorge. You will discover the ruins of a castle built in the Middle Ages: legend has it that in the 13th century there lived a very beautiful lady who, abandoned by her knight husband, began to write marvellous poems which made her famous: the Lady of Castel d'Auze. Mountain bike route "From Montsalvy to the Goul Valley”. Starting near the castle built on the ancient ramparts of the medieval village, this itinerary offers the opportunity to discover Montsalvy. This is an accessible and fairly easy route which offers beautiful panoramas, in particular that of the Puy de l'Arbre, which dominates this area from the top of its 830 m. This route will then offer mountain bikers beautiful views of the mountains and valleys, with several forest passages punctuating the route.

Hiking trail “The Treasures of the Upper Célé”. This path is closely linked to the Maison de la Châtaigne, which you can visit. Very shaded, it will lead you to the discovery of the Haut-Célé Gorge. You will appreciate the variety of environments, the diversity of the vegetation, you will guess the presence of animals and imagine the action of man in this landscape. Situated in the north of the Aveyron, 10 km from the famous village of Conques, Château de Sénergues has only been open to the public since 2023. The family who have owned it for 7 centuries welcome you on certain days to visit the 24-metre-high keep and its beautiful interior rooms, and enjoy the magnificent 360-degree view. You need to be in good physical condition to visit the keep, and the visit is not recommended for people suffering from claustrophobia or extreme vertigo. The tour is open to children aged 10 and over.

The southernmost river of Cantal is the Lot River. The valley is situated at 200 meters altitude. The weather is mild and shows another facet of the Châtaigneraie. Enjoy the beautiful panoramas (Montmurat, Aubespeyre), discover the history of the medieval castle, go canoeing...

Visit of the medieval fortress of Vieillevie (11th-13th centuries) in July and August. Storytelling tours (in French): Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. Places are limited, so bookings must be made by text message or e-mail. The castle dominates the Lot Valley from its high towers. It is an authentic defensive fortress: sentry walks, archways, and defensive hoardings. Above the lower rooms carved into the rock, you will discover the large Renaissance rooms with their finely sculpted mullioned windows and their monumental 13th century fireplaces, among the oldest in France.

The scenographic space of the Lot Valley will take you into the life of the men of the valley at the beginning of the last century, through dynamic and interactive staging! In 2022 the brand new dynamic space “Olt Explorer” opened its doors! Come and meet the Lot’s wildlife aboard a… virtual submarine!

Sénezergues is located South of the natural region of Veinazès, in the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie. The village above the Auze river is connected to two important hiking paths, crossing the diversity of the Châtaigneraie landscapes.

In the square, note the wrought-iron cross depicting the various instruments of the Passion. Although the date inscribed on the granite base is 1800, the cross was actually made in 1750 and hidden during the revolutionary turmoil. It was made by Jean de Séguy, provost from 1745 to 1776. The statue of the Virgin Mary in a red sandstone niche (probably reused) on the façade, rebuilt in the 18th century, is a reminder that the church is dedicated to Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. However, the cult of St Bernard, the monastery's first abbot, quickly developed in the hearts of the first Montsalvy residents. This popular beatification, accepted by the ecclesiastical authorities, led to the dedication of a chapel in the church in 1258. St Bernard is therefore considered the patron saint of the parish (celebrated on the Sunday following 11 October). In the church, discover the exceptional polychrome wooden Christ, listed as a historic monument, the 20th-century ciborium (or baldachin) installed in the Romanesque choir, the shrines containing the relics of St Gausbert and Saint Bernard and two of the four boundary crosses: the cross of St Anne and the cross of Cambon. An adjoining vaulted room houses the Treasure of Sacred Art, a collection of priestly objects from the various churches of the St Joseph en Veinazès parish.

A medieval town founded in the 11th century by the monk Gausbert, who established a sauveté surrounded by 4 crosses, which guaranteed ecclesiastical immunity to those who took refuge there. Montsalvy, a Petite Cité de Caractère® almost a thousand years old, has retained the austere atmosphere of those ancient fortified villages, huddled in on themselves and still imbued with their medieval splendour.

A fun discovery site dedicated to Auvergne chestnuts. Immerse yourself in the world of the Maison de la Châtaigne, a living reminder of the chestnut-growing past: a 1950s grocery store, bread oven, chestnut dryer, underground galleries, gardens, tree nursery, and animals... Discover the culture of chestnut trees from yesterday to today and watch chestnut flour being made in our processing workshop. Savour a local specialty, explore the gourmet shop with its wide range of chestnut-based products, and enjoy a moment of relaxation in the coffee corner, overlooking the landscape of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne. Wooden games, a parent-powered merry-go-round and little discoveries will delight the whole family!

In the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie, in the natural region of Veinazès, Junhac is located between the Auze river and the Combenousse creek. Two hiking paths go through the village and its wonderful landscapes.

Overlooking the village of Montsalvy, Mount Puy de l'Arbre offers a magnificent natural observatory stretching from the Mounts of Cantal to the Rouergue, passing through the Aubrac Plateau. Near the toposcope, a granite stele reminds us that in 1798, Jean-Baptiste Delambre and Pierre Méchain measured here an arc section of the Paris meridian between Dunkirk and Barcelona. This arc measurement served as the basis for the original definition of the metre. This stele is therefore a survey marker. Picnic tables.

L’Auberge Fleurie is a charming Cantal stopover in the area of the River Lot and the River Truyère, at an altitude of 800 m. A good fairy seems to have bent over this inn, which offers an enthusiastic table where terroir and modernity go hand in hand! The inn also has a remarkable wine cellar. L'Auberge de Mourjou, with its restaurant and guest rooms, has been open since 18 March 2024. Daily menu (€19,90) from Monday 12pm to Friday 2pm. Chef Kara Asatryan's menu (€39) is available for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and lunch on Sundays. Booking recommended. The chef's menu consists of a choice of two starters, a choice of two main courses and a choice of two desserts. The menu changes every 2 weeks according to the season and her inspiration. You can also make the most of our shaded terrace in fine weather.
