Heritage walk in Morlaàs, the historic capital of Béarn Situated to the north-east of Pau, this historic capital of Béarn from 1080 to 1260 enjoyed brilliant development thanks to the Fors de Morlaàs, a charter of privileges that made Béarn a true precursor in terms of justice and democracy. On his arrival, Viscount Centulle V built the château de la Hourquie, the exact location of which is unknown. The town quickly developed from south to north in a succession of towns surrounded by moats. This topography, fixed in the 1st quarter of the 12th century, is what we know today, with the main street, 1.5 km long, whose different names correspond to these medieval villages. Many traces of the past remain from this prosperous period, when the Viscounts lived here and minted their coins, including the church of Sainte-Foy, a jewel of Romanesque art.

What a pleasure it is to soar above Morlaàs on this undulating route! It's a great privilege to leave the hustle and bustle behind and quickly find yourself in the peace and quiet of the heights. The view over Pau from this path is beyond compare.

The Office of Tourism has the following exhibitions : original stones coming from the Church Sainte Foy in Morlaàs (12th century) like this remarquable Vieillard de l’Apocalypse, plasters casts used to renovate the monument, old coins, seals, parchments… Morlaàs has the privilege of still having in possession a set of weights in bronze which were used for commercial transactions. One of the has the date of MVCLXXVI for 1576.

After a period of disuse, the town was successful again at the beginning of the 18th century when it started to produce furniture, a craft that made its reputation. The markets, true secular traditions, still survive today.

Classified as an Historical Monument in 1841, The Church Sainte-Foy, built in the heart of the historical capital of Bearn, shows very impressive carved capitals in the choir like the Beheading of Sainte Foy and the Piton de Jaca, an architectural motif reproduced on the pilgrimage roads. Original stones of the Romanesque portal, which had been renovated in the 19th century, are exhibited at the Office of Tourism. The original of the remarkable tympanum can be seen in the chapel of the Bienheureux Bernard. Ten stained glass windows have been done by Mauméjean (1869).

Located in the commune of Buros, the Maison de l'Eau was opened in 2011 and renovated in 2020. The educational area comprises a room and an outdoor circuit, with access to the technical and museographic area. The Maison de l'Eau's newly-designed itinerary takes the group on an encounter with the element water in all its dimensions and uses. The tour is designed to get visitors actively involved in the discovery process, and to put the challenges of water in the context of climate change into perspective.

In Higuères-Souye, not far from the hiking trail, there is a picnic area

Situated at the exit of Morlaàs, on the D943, this ancient fountain had been renovated by some passionate people. There is a beautiful legend attached to this fountain also called « the fountain of fairies ». Pilgrims stopp there on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
