From Les Signaraux , follow Arborétum de Combe Noire via Sert Leycons and return via the same route. This hike will take you to the Pierre Percée, a natural arch situated 1220m above sea level. From there you will be able to enjoy a stunning view of the Matheysine plateau. The route also passes through the forest, which is splendid in the summer.

Departing from La Motte d'Aveillans, hike towards one of the seven wonders of Dauphiné. From this natural arch which is located on the hill of Creys, discover a superb panorama over the whole of Matheysine. This short, easy hike on the Matheysin plateau takes you to the Pierre Percée, a natural arch located at the top of the Creys hill. This triumphal arch would in fact be a squatting demon, petrified there by the devil for having lost a bet with the Duke of Lesdiguières. From this belvedere, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the whole Matheysine!

This route offers a beautiful view of the Laffrey Lakes. An easy walk that can also be done with the family. Do not hesitate, if the weather allows it, to make a “swimming stop” in the lake.

From La Motte d'Aveillans, this short hike towards Pierre Merlière, a local legend, can be supplemented by a visit to La Mine Image museum. The Legend: The name of Pierre Merlière would come from Merlin the enchanter because the legend says that we practiced human sacrifices on this altar as evidenced by the hollow imprint on the top. Right next to this hollow there is a round shape to accommodate the person to be sacrificed as well as a vertical gutter along the rock to evacuate the victim's blood. But far from all that, we are facing a rock in which several millstones have been cut. We find two in the lower part abandoned during the size following the appearance of a defect, in reality it would seem that a single millstone was extracted from this rock, hence the hollow imprint visible on the top. The rocks likely to give good grinding stones were rare in the region (it needed hardness and sufficient resistance to abrasion to obtain a good grinding wheel) the slightest rock likely to be suitable was immediately exploited to supply the mills of the region . This is how the millstone became the Merlière stone.

A refreshing walk along an old but still well-alive canal, winding in the forest. The shortest trail starts from St Laurent, with the «Ambiance» walk following a loop. From La Salle, for the children, follow the «Ludique» walk; for the adults, follow the «Connaissance» walk. To do all these trails, the ideal start is St Laurent, following La Salle en Beaumont along the canal until the end of the «Connaissance» walk. Go down to La Salle en Beaumont and follow the «Connaissance» walk to go up the canal and return to St Laurent via the outward trail. When there is water in the canal, you should remain very careful especially with children and dogs since the current can be quite strong in some places, even though the canal is not very deep. Underground passages increase this risk.

The anthracite mines from La Motte d'Aveillans created under Napoleon I and closed in 1956 was resurrected in 1986 by the Association Sauvegarde et Mise en Valeur du Patrimoine Mottois.. Several galleries of mineral extraction has been re-worked and open to visit. A guide leads you through authentic galleries where you will follown 2 centuries of mineral exploitation, technics, material from different periods e work conditions of "Gueules Noires" on the Plateau Matheysin where the exploitation was definitively closed in 1997. The exhibtion room of the museum will permit you to discover the Lampistery, the hanged room, day works, social universe of the mines and daily stuff of miners but also some beautiful mineral in the famous "treasure room".

Located in the oldest house of La Mure, the museum explains the history of Matheysine and its inhabitants, through exhibition of objects, maquettes and pictures. In the heart of the old town there is the Maison Caral, home to the Musée Matheysin since 1994. La Mure’s museum houses collections relating to the Matheysine plateau, and the nearby Beaumont and Valbonnais areas. Archeology (prehistory, Roman Gaul and medieval periods) and the Wars of Religion (the Siege of La Mure in 1580) give way to rooms devoted to anthracite mining, peasant life, glove-makers and itinerant peddlers. These used to be the trademark activities of this mid-Alpine region. The last few rooms feature sculptors and painters of the region in the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 2012 part of the museum has displayed the work of abstract painter Claude Garanjoud (1926-2005). Exhibits also include the exhibition dedicated to Olivier Messiaen, a summer visitor to the Matheysine for more than 50 years. And each season the museum offers a new temporary exhibition.

Enjoy the second main lake of Matheysin's plateau, easily reachable from Grenoble and located just after the lakes of Laffrey (the biggest) and Petichet (the smallest). The Aegypius monachus, an immense bird of prey, all dressed in black, glides through the air in search of a cold meal. Very often to be found in the company of griffon vultures, it draws closer to the ground with a wide and heavy beat of its wings, turning its greyish head with its huge beak right and left, its eye seeking out every detail in the landscape. The subject of many myths and legends, its ash-grey plumage gave it its name... The four species of vulture in France never compete with one another. While the griffon vulture, with the help of its weak and large beak, prefers to eat the softer parts of carrion (viscera and muscles), the cinereous vulture likes the hard parts (skin, tendons and cartilage), which it rips using its strong, sharp beak. The fine beak of the Egyptian vulture means it can be a perfectionist... it picks the skeleton perfectly clean.

The dam lake of Monteynard is a paradise for windsurf and kitesurf practice. The Monteynard lake if the most extended lake of Matheysine, linking with Trièves territory. Indeed, the Monteynard-Avignonet dam, which created the lake of the same name, is unique. It's a factory dam, with the turbines used to generate electricity integrated into the heart of the dam. This information and much more is freely available, and photos and live explanations by the staff present will complete your visit.

Introduced in 1949 into the Alps from breeds from Corsica and central Europe, this is an ancestor of the sheep with ammonite horns. Even though the European Union recommends strict protection of the mouflon, it can be hunted in certain conditions. It is ill-equipped for extreme Alpine conditions, and its population levels may fluctuate with the severity of winter.

Parking of vehicles must be done only in the specially designated parking spaces. The campervan area is divided in 7 different parking spaces. The following services are available in the motorhome area: - Drinking water: a drinking water tap is available on site. Its use is free and operates by pressing the tap head. The tap is exclusively reserved for refilling water tanks. - Waste disposal: chemical cassette emptying must be done in the designated receptacle located next to the water tap. Wastewater can be emptied in the ground-level inspection chamber connected to the sewage system. For hygiene reasons, users are required to comply with these rules and help keep the area clean. - Household waste: Household garbage must be disposed of in molok-type containers located 30 meters from the entrance to the area. - Toilets: Public toilets are also available nearby. This campsite is a peaceful and relaxing place surrounded by nature. Located at the starting point of many hiking trails, it is just 100 meters from the beach and features a children's playground as well as a designated beach area for dogs. On a fully enclosed site that was completely renovated in 2016. It is equipped with a waste disposal area for camper vans and offers picnic tables and barbecues. You also have the option to organize your own barbecue on the beach, where fixed barbecues are available.
