From Les Signaraux , follow Arborétum de Combe Noire via Sert Leycons and return via the same route. This hike will take you to the Pierre Percée, a natural arch situated 1220m above sea level. From there you will be able to enjoy a stunning view of the Matheysine plateau. The route also passes through the forest, which is splendid in the summer. Park in the Fontalon car park in Pierre-Châtel. Go straight up in the direction of Chante Merle until you reach the old charbonnière de Picardon. Turn to the left for a few switchbacks to Plan de la Rivoire. Continue straight on to reach the spectacular Pierre Percée. The return is done by the same route.

Departing from La Motte d'Aveillans, hike towards one of the seven wonders of Dauphiné. From this natural arch which is located on the hill of Creys, discover a superb panorama over the whole of Matheysine. This short, easy hike on the Matheysin plateau takes you to the Pierre Percée, a natural arch located at the top of the Creys hill. This triumphal arch would in fact be a squatting demon, petrified there by the devil for having lost a bet with the Duke of Lesdiguières. From this belvedere, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the whole Matheysine!

From La Motte d'Aveillans, this short hike towards Pierre Merlière, a local legend, can be supplemented by a visit to La Mine Image museum. The Legend: The name of Pierre Merlière would come from Merlin the enchanter because the legend says that we practiced human sacrifices on this altar as evidenced by the hollow imprint on the top. Right next to this hollow there is a round shape to accommodate the person to be sacrificed as well as a vertical gutter along the rock to evacuate the victim's blood. But far from all that, we are facing a rock in which several millstones have been cut. We find two in the lower part abandoned during the size following the appearance of a defect, in reality it would seem that a single millstone was extracted from this rock, hence the hollow imprint visible on the top. The rocks likely to give good grinding stones were rare in the region (it needed hardness and sufficient resistance to abrasion to obtain a good grinding wheel) the slightest rock likely to be suitable was immediately exploited to supply the mills of the region . This is how the millstone became the Merlière stone.

Very nice hike to the abandoned farms of Rif Bruyant. Discover this small charming hamlet. Sleeping and eating available in The Rif Bruyant Refuge. START at "Le Mollard" or "Le Fontagneu" Connected to the Roizonne valley by an old "calade" path (a rough cobbled trail made of embedded stones), the little-known Rif Bruyant valley is full of hidden treasures. Discover the stone houses of the old hamlet, with their slate roofs and stepped gable ends. As you stroll through the beautiful hay meadows bordered by low stone walls, you may come across the natural icehouses, once used to age the valley’s cheeses. Parking from Alpe du Grand Serre: Take the D114 towards La Mure. After passing the hamlet of Fontagneu, you’ll find a parking area on your left, near the hamlet of Le Mollard. From La Mure: Take the D114 towards Alpe du Grand Serre. After the village of La Valette, the parking area and the hamlet of Le Mollard are on your right. If the parking is full, you can turn back to the hamlet of Fontagneu, which also offers parking. The additional few hundred meters are signposted and follow the river below. Trail Directions: Take the path toward Le Mollard. Once in the hamlet, turn right to reach the Rif Bruyant stream. Continue through the wooded area until you reach a stone-arched bridge. Do not cross this bridge — instead, follow the stream uphill. At the second bridge, cross over the Rif Bruyant and take the narrower trail to the left, which leads into the forest and up to the old hamlet. Important: You are in a protected natural area. Please stay on marked trails, keep your dog on a leash, do not light fires, and carry out all your trash or dispose of it in the nearest bins. Respecting and preserving this special place is essential!

Located in the oldest house of La Mure, the museum explains the history of Matheysine and its inhabitants, through exhibition of objects, maquettes and pictures. Tucked away in the old town is the Maison Caral, home to the Musée Matheysin since 1994. La Mure’s museum houses collections relating to the Matheysine plateau, and the nearby Beaumont and Valbonnais areas. Archeology (prehistory, Roman Gaul and medieval periods) and the Wars of Religion (the Siege of La Mure in 1580) give way to rooms devoted to anthracite mining, peasant life, glove-makers and itinerant peddlers. These used to be the trademark activities of this mid-Alpine region. The last few rooms feature sculptors and painters of the region in the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 2012 part of the museum has displayed the work of abstract painter Claude Garanjoud (1926-2005). Exhibits also include the exhibition dedicated to Olivier Messiaen, a summer visitor to the Matheysine for more than 50 years. And each season the museum offers a new temporary exhibition.

The dam lake of Monteynard is a paradise for windsurf and kitesurf practice. The Monteynard lake if the most extended lake of Matheysine, linking with Trièves territory. A place of welcome and information, partly financed by EDF, with the aim of promoting both the Lac de Monteynard Avignonet site and the culture of hydroelectricity, a renewable energy par excellence. Indeed, the Monteynard-Avignonet dam, which created the lake of the same name, is unique. It's a factory dam, with the turbines used to generate electricity integrated into the heart of the dam. This information and much more is freely available, and photos and live explanations by the staff present will complete your visit.

A small village with lot of charm. Testimonies of a past life, in an out-of-time place, Rif Bruyant farms contain much mystery, like its old cheese cellars. This village is a must to see for any hiker who starts from the valley of Roizonne to Roizonne or to Coiro. It can also be worth seing for itself : heritage, traditionnal food and beautiful beech forest. Rif Bruyant farm is composed of 3 building from seventeenth century. A few years ago these buildings were restored by the only inhabitant of the village. He opened a shelter with accommodation in shared rooms, yurt or tree house. On the outskirts of the village you could see old cheese cellars, recently renovated. In the old days the "Le Bleu de Lavaldens" cheese was well known in the area, lucky to be able to use the less-than-6 °C caves near than the farms.

Welcome in the heart of the "Ecrins" national park in the village of Valbonnais, place of nature and freedom. The campsite is on the bank of a small lake "Le plan d'eau". It is a quiet and restful place with a fantastic view The spacious grounds allow all campers to enjoy naturally defined pitches, with areas of up to 150 m². Near a typical village nestled between the Oisans and Vercors regions, campers can choose a sunny spot by the lake or a shaded area under the trees. Small streams run through the campsite, where children love to float their handmade creations. Mini-golf, inflatable castles, a snack bar, and a restaurant complete the Valbonheur experience. For sunbathing, swimming, or paddleboarding, head to the beach by the natural pool that is the Valbonnais lake.

Bivouac and caravan area open all year round. Tent camping is possible on the grassland. Located in the center of the site, next to the playground, you will find an electrical hookup and sanitary facilities. The parking is located in the village centre, next to Town Hall, nordic area playgrounds and two minutes from the road to the waterfall, the via ferrata. The caravan area has power and drinking water supply and toilet and drain area. We accept caravan all year round. No RV dump station (you can drain in the toilets). Cost is 10€plus the tax of 0.55€ per adult and per night (payment on site). Winter snow removal is included. From the 15th of june 2025, you will find a new sanitary block, with a surface of 18m2, which contain : - 2 individual shower rooms, each equipped with a washbasin and mirror - 2 toilet cubicles (1 male, 1 female) with hand-washing sinks - 1 separate dishwashing area with 2 sinks, worktops, and 4 mixer taps Cassette toilet filling and emptying is possible in the sanitary block toilets. In winter, snow removal is provided and a free shuttle service takes you to the ski slopes during school holidays and weekends.
