In the Entremonts valley, the Cozon river, as beautiful as it is refreshing, meanders docilely between the rocks. Will you be able to find the sculpted potholes? As you hike along, you'll also come across some pretty, typical hamlets. Starting from Saint Pierre d'Entremont, which translates to "between the mountains," your journey will lead you to explore the numerous hamlets along the Cozon River. The river offers both freshness and mystery, as its bed is occasionally concealed beneath rocks and moss, lending the water its distinctive hue. But the surprises are just beginning! The wooden footbridge at La Chivolande provides a direct view of the Cozon waterfall: as beautiful as it is mesmerizing, it forms a deep cauldron sculpted by erosion, creating an enchanting and refreshing spot. The trail then winds through a chaos of boulders, whose rounded shapes may evoke certain human and animal silhouettes.

This route winds its way between the two churches of St-Pierre-d'Entremont before slipping into the Cozon valley. It follows an ancient path, a haven of greenery and coolness, perfect for family walks on hot summer days. Immerse yourself in the refreshing embrace of the Chartreuse forest during this bucolic stroll. Begin your journey by following the Path of the Mules, enveloped by majestic trees. An essential stop awaits you at the "Pont du Lac," where in summer, the charming outdoor restaurant "La Pêche à la Truite" invites you to refresh and rejuvenate. Then, continue your path by taking a small road to the hamlet of Courriers before finding a scenic forest trail again. Your hike concludes beautifully at the delightful hamlet of La Fracette before returning to St Pierre d'Entremont via a peaceful and lightly trafficked road.

A loop trail to discover the Montbel Castle and its stunning panorama. As a Randocroquis®, it also provides an introduction to sketching techniques. Leaflets available upon request at the tourist information center. After passing through the village and crossing the bridges over the Guiers and Cozon rivers, you'll embark on the winding "Buis" road, which offers an impressive view of the Frou gorges road and its cliffs. Departing from the road, you'll venture onto the signposted path that traverses the river, where you can savor the refreshing, pastoral scenery before continuing your journey. A beautiful forest ascent awaits you, promising a rewarding effort as you ascend towards the hamlet of Le Château. Here, you'll encounter the ruins of Château de Montbel on your left, once a stronghold of the Lords of Entremont, constructed in 1306 and left in ruins since the French Revolution. A magnificent stone orientation table provides the names of all the surrounding mountains, allowing you to admire the breathtaking panorama. Picnics and siestas are encouraged in the meadow surrounding the château. Upon returning to the hamlet, you'll pass by the historic oven and pond, tracing the course of history alongside the bucket wheel of an old beating saw. As you depart from the hamlet, a descending path will lead you back to the road, guiding you towards the village.

Exceptional natural site at the foot of the Nature Reserve of Hauts de Chartreuse and source of the Guiers Vif, the Cirque de St Même offers a walk between forest and torrent to discover its waterfalls. It may be a short walk, but it's a good one! It's a lovely climb through the forest that awaits you, with the path winding through the trees and a lookout point giving you a glimpse of the Pisse du Guiers, the last of the waterfalls. After a good half-hour climb, it's a steep, rocky descent to the majestic Grande Cascade and its vertical cliffs. The view from the wooden footbridge is still splendid. On the way down, be careful, the tree roots are trying to trip you up! More water? A short round trip reveals the more discreet Cascade Isolée. Then it's back to the plain of the Cirque for a well-deserved rest to the sound of the river. Throughout the hike, you should take care as the paths are wet and steep and sometimes on the edge of a cliff. The forests are private, so keep to the marked paths. PLEASE NOTE: Bivouacs and fires are FORBIDDEN in the Cirque de St Même.

This emblematic hike takes you to the Mont Granier plateau, renowned for being the highest cliff in France. On the lapiaz, you may have the pleasure of spotting ibex. From the La Plagne parking lot (Entremont le vieux), walk past the gite d'étape to the Priz barns. Steep passage through Balme à Collomb, then across the Granier plateau to Pas des barres then Col de l'Alpette. Downhill to La Plagne.

Difficult / duration 5h30 / deniv. + 840m / return + loop. The Mont Granier is an impressive monument whose huge north cliff dominates the valley of Chambéry and the vineyards of Savoie from its 900m high. You'll have no trouble recognizing Mont Granier, whose sharp profile in shades of gray reflects the movement of limestone rocks and their landslides. Don't worry: if this mountain collapses on its edges, it is closely monitored and the areas to be avoided are well identified. It's during your ascent from La Plagne that you'll be able to observe this giant in complete safety. Be discreet, as ibex, chamois and marmots are not far away. The Réserve des Hauts de Chartreuse abounds in both visible and invisible treasures. There are guides and nature guards on duty in this exceptional area: don't hesitate to go and meet them, they'll be able to tell you all about the underground glacier, the cave bear and other treasures hidden here and there.

This family-friendly hike explores the pastoral landscapes of the Entremonts valley, dominated by Mont Outheran and Mont Granier. Set off on an adventure from the campsite parking lot and plunge into the heart of the Chartreuse countryside. Your hike begins near the Coopérative laitière (where you'll find delicious produce for your picnic!), where you follow a path that joins the road to the hamlet of Les Bessons. Here, the road again becomes a path, leading you to the picturesque village of Désert d'Entremont. The landscape opens out onto the Hauts de Chartreuse Nature Reserve. Enjoy the magnificent panorama: from Mont Granier in the north, with its impressive cliffs, to the Dent de Crolles in the south, with the cliffs of Mont Outheran behind you. When you reach the cross-country skiing hostel, the descent awaits! You pass through the charming hamlet of La Réduire, then take the road to Les Martenons. Continue your exploration by taking the path on the left, leading to the hamlet of Plan Martin. At the entrance to the hamlet, head towards Entremont le Vieux. Once on the road, gently descend to the heart of the village, where you turn right towards the welcoming Auberge des Entremonts, returning to your starting point at the parking lot.

The unique location of the village of Corbel has always necessitated careful management of water resources by its inhabitants. Explore the village's ovens and fountains. Right from the start, it's truly remarkable! This village, perched above the Frou gorges, offers an exceptional panorama of the Hauts de Chartreuse. The steep slope on which Corbel is situated meant that early on, inhabitants had to devise ways to store water, which would otherwise quickly flow down to the Guiers Vif. Prior to the arrival of running water in 1989, each inhabitant had their own fountain or pond near their home. Explore these water features and the hamlets, which burst with flowers in summer. And yes, the village has been awarded its 1st Flower in the ‘Towns and Villages in Bloom’ competition! Upon your return, explore the communal garden, which mirrors the landscape of the Chartreuse through a selection of structured, local, and food-producing plants—a vibrant miniature landscape. You can also visit the church, notable for its stained glass windows by Arcabas. Lastly, the panoramic terrace of the Auberge Pompon is the perfect spot to relax after this delightful walk, brimming with landscapes and heritage.

A short loop with the option of a round trip. Ideal for families, it offers a stroll through forests and meadows. The highlight: a breathtaking view of the Guiers valley from the pointe du Frou. From the La Ruchère Nordic site, start your itinerary by taking the forest path to the right of the cross-country ski trail entrance. After a long descent, you'll make your way to the pointe du Frou (summer itinerary) and back, before taking the meadows back to the hostel. This entirely wooded route takes you to the pointe du Frou, where you can enjoy a spectacular panorama of the Guiers valley (take care around the cliff). On the way back, cross magnificent meadows offering breathtaking views of the Ruchère site.

Starting from the Nordic site of La Ruchère, a secret, intimate route with views of the summits that are not to be missed. From the Col de la Ruchère you can admire Chamechaude, Grand Som and Petit Som. From the Nordic site at La Ruchère, head up along the toboggan run to begin the ascent along the new GR. At Cernay, turn left to reach a flat area and then a meadow. Continue straight ahead to reach the entrance to the meadow leading to the Col de l'Aliénar. The loop continues at the edge of the forest on your right as you come down from this pass (or on your left if you don't take the time to climb it). You arrive at the Tracol and continue straight on to reach the superb Col de la Ruchère and its view of the 3 surrounding peaks. On the way back, turn right onto a wide track that leads back to Le Habert. Follow the road until you can turn left to climb back up through the meadow below the fireplace. A secret, intimate trail with unmissable views of the peaks.

Our site is characterised by alternating passages through deciduous and coniferous forests, and plateaux with remarkable views of the main Chartreuse peaks and Mont Blanc. The Entremonts Nordic area in Chartreuse is an incomparable playground. For beginners to cross-country skiing, there are special areas for beginners. For the more athletic skiers, the black Monfred piste will delight fans of long, technical runs. This Nordic area is located close to the family-friendly Alpine ski resort and offers other services such as restaurants, equipment hire, accommodation and snowshoe routes.

The first invites you to take a meander through a meander full of giant potholes, while the second, a refuge according to legend for the famous smuggler Mandrin, can be crossed on a footbridge 20m above the ground, offering a panoramic view. Access to the caves is by guided tour only. In the reception area, a free permanent exhibition presents the Fru site, home to the first prehistoric men in the Chartreuse! To discover this prehistoric habitat, you can follow a 2h30 hike punctuated by 12 play points for the whole family: "Sur la piste d'Azil et Magda" (On the trail of Azil and Magda). The Cirque de Saint-Même, in the heart of the Chartreuse Regional Park, is truly a place of outstanding natural beauty. Lying at an altitude of 900 m, the cirque always remains refreshingly cool thanks to four spectacular waterfalls that cascade through the middle of this impressive, 500-m high amphitheatre of Urgonian limestone. An underground spring, the source of the River Guiers Vif , ensures a constant flow of water to the falls (from top to bottom: Cascade des Sources, Grande Cascade, Cascade Isolée, Pisse du Guiers). A 1½-hr signposted walking circuit allows you to explore the three lower waterfalls. Another waymarked footpath connects the cirque to Saint-Pierre d'Entremont.

Since June 2023, the Cave Bear Museum offers a new visitor route with modern and interactive scenography.

This garden transposes the Carthusian landscape through the choice of local plants. The maintenance is made by local volunteers.

It is the oldest church of the Entremonts. Remarkable church known for its amazing stained glasses, made by the artist Arcabas. Recently the door was change to put a new one, designed and made by Arcabas.

Fort Barraux is one of the oldest and most prestigious defences in the Alps. A bastioned fortification created in the 16th century, it was subsequently modified, notably by Vauban in the 18th century. This type of architecture, which appeared in Italy in the early 16th century, is the successor to the traditional fortified castles. This can be explained by the evolution of firearms, and in particular cannons, which were becoming more and more efficient. A bastioned fortification is characterized by its star shape, bristling with bastions (pentagonal structures replacing the cylindrical corner towers of medieval times) and advanced works. Fort Barraux would be revised and improved over the centuries, especially during a major campaign of works ordered by Vauban (Louis XIV's famous military engineer) in 1692 and 1700. As a sentinel of the Grésivaudan, the fort's main function was to act as a deterrent. But it also served as a garrison and a warehouse for weapons and ammunition. It also served as a prison. Military, for enemy troops (German officers stayed there in 1917 and 18), but also civil, during the Second World War: from July 1940, it became a Centre de Séjour Surveillé, where black market traffickers, political prisoners, foreign men and women of Jewish origin on transfer to concentration camps were locked up...

This belvedere offers a panoramic view on the gates of the Chartreuse Massif, you can, find your bearings thanks to an orientation table.

The Guiers Mort gorges are made from the Dent de Crolles underground network and go from Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse to Saint-Laurent-du-Pont.
