A beautiful hike starting from Montivilliers for a discovery of the north of the Le Havre agglomeration Stage of the famous road of the Abbeys, Montivilliers owes its prosperity and its name to its prestigious abbey of women, an originality among the many rather male Norman abbeys. The ancient "Monasterii Villare" (the monastery village) which gave its name to the town is one of the great monastic foundations of the 7th century in the lower Seine valley. Throughout the Middle Ages, the Abbey of Montivilliers had a great influence. Monastic life ceased in 1792, following the French Revolution. The Abbey then became the seat of the District and of the Popular Society, prison and garrison. In the 19th century, it housed a cotton mill, then a sugar refinery and finally a brewery.

On the way down, you'll take in the town center, then head for Rivière-Saint-Sauveur, Gonneville-sur-Honfleur, and finally Equemeauville. The end of this loop takes you along the Bois du Breuil. Between land and sea, this loop will delight your eyes with its diversity! The loop is signposted in both directions by a red dot bearing the number 14.

The history of this monument is quite original and takes us back to 1943 and 1944 with the intensification of the bombing. Due to the strategic proximity of the railroad and the German anti-aircraft batteries, the township thought it would suffer serious damage. But it was spared, especially from the 1944 bombings. To show their gratitude, the population and the parish priest decided to erect a monumental statue. They called upon Marcel Adam, a sculptor from Le Havre, who made the statue in direct cut in Burgundy stone. Erected in 1946, the statue was named "Christ the Liberator".

The Aître de Brisgaret is a rare example in France of a medieval cemetery with a gallery that has retained its original vocation. The site has a gallery-ossuary built in the 16th century which has retained its authentic framework. It is adorned with sculptures and wall decorations representative of macabre art. At the end is a chapel dated 1602 and an original Gothic cross at the site of the mass grave. This monumental complex required a major restoration work between November 2012 and June 2014 which revealed the exceptional character of the site.
