The Aître de Brisgaret is a rare example in France of a medieval cemetery with a gallery that has retained its original vocation. The site has a gallery-ossuary built in the 16th century which has retained its authentic framework. It is adorned with sculptures and wall decorations representative of macabre art. At the end is a chapel dated 1602 and an original Gothic cross at the site of the mass grave. This monumental complex required a major restoration work between November 2012 and June 2014 which revealed the exceptional character of the site. Montivilliers owes its prosperity and its renown to its prestigious abbey for nuns. The former "Monasterii Villare", which gave its name to the town, was one of the major monastic foundations of the 7th century in the Seine Valley. A fully restored masterpiece of medieval architecture, the site was open to the public on 1st July 2000. Unique in Normandy, this kind of interpretation of Norman abbeys makes Montivilliers Abbey a reference to learn more about the essential role of abbeys in the history of Normandy, and their original architectural features. Contemporary with William the Conqueror, the Abbey Church of Montivilliers, with its two naves is a Norman architectural treasure. Built in the 11th century for a community of nuns, the building would be modified in the 15th century and turned into a surprising two-nave church that could accommodate both the nuns and the parishioners. In addition, the abbey church features original ornaments including the Gothic tribune, a unique example in Normandy, and a surprising arch sculpted with animals, which remains unexplained.

The memorial was designed by architect Bruno Saas and inaugurated on June 24, 2012, on the 70th anniversary of the British raid of February 1942. It consists of three distinct spaces: a lectern 20 meters long on which is told the story of the biting operation (20 panels), a monument dedicated to the British troops and the French resistance and the Charles de Gaulle staircase.
