This museum traces the history and urban development of Cusset in one of the last vestiges of the fortifications built in the 15th century at the request of Louis XI (ISMH 1996). Built between 1476 and 1483, this artillery tower was spared destruction in modern times thanks to its use as a prison until 1957. In modern times, the tower has played an important role, with historical accounts of Napoleon III's visit at the end of the 19th century. Today, the tower houses the town's museum (since 1980), offering visitors the chance to discover the history of Cusset through its lapidary collections, as well as paintings, sculptures and engravings. An exhibition of medieval artillery (owned by the town of Montluçon) highlights the 15th century, when the town was an influential religious center under the protection of the King of France. The self-guided tour of the museum is combined with a guided tour of the underground passages (the starting point for the guided tours is at the museum reception desk).

Vichy's development was intimately linked to its railway station. 19th-century Europe saw a boom in the spa industry, with high society elites flocking to spa towns from the world over to enjoy both the cures and the wide range of entertainments on offer. In Vichy, the construction of the railway station was part of a wider project to modernise and reorganise the town, started in the mid-19th century. The train, a symbol of progress, would facilitate access to the spa town and encourage tourism. The project took shape under the impetus of Napoleon III who, on his first visit in 1861, had to complete his journey by horse-drawn carriage from Saint-Germain-des-Fossés; by 1862, it took just eight hours to travel from Paris to Vichy. The town was soon attracting visitors from all over Europe, who were greeted on arrival by a majestic station with a neoclassical façade, a luxurious VIP lounge and several comfortable waiting rooms designed by its architect, Denis Darcy. Over the years, the station was extended, remodelled and fitted out with large overhead canopies that protected luggage being loaded into hotel carriages, which then sped through the spa town along the four large avenues radiating from its forecourt. In 2008, work commenced to restore the building to its former glory.

Due to building works, the Protestant church in Vichy will be closed from 1 July to 31 December 2026. After practicing their religion in various hotel dining rooms, in 1866, they obtained permission to build a first temple behind the present-day post office; however, this building rapidly outgrew its original scope and was also too far from the spa district. The construction of the current temple was largely financed by spa visitors from the Anglican community as, at the time, the British represented about 40% of Vichy's foreign spa clientele. The project was entrusted to architect Samuel Henriquet, the son of a pastor and already the designer of the temple in Castillon-la-Bataille (Gironde). A enthusiastic follower of the Neo-Gothic style, Henriquet opted here for its late English version, the Perpendicular Gothic Revival style, notably illustrated in the temple's finely ribbed fan-shaped vaults, of which Bath Abbey is one of the finest examples. The temple held its first service on 2nd August 1914. Unfortunately, in the 1960s, the facade was stripped of its gable pediment. Today, the Protestant Temple serves as a reminder of how the thermal baths shaped the city, attracting a cosmopolitan population that has left its mark on Vichy's cultural and architectural history.

Inaugurated in 1903, this iconic building in Vichy, Queen of Spa Towns, designed by architects Charles Lecoeur and Lucien Woog, is dedicated to spa culture. The main façade, 170 metres long, runs either side of a monumental entrance that opens onto a symmetrical axis housing a range of services such as mechanotherapy, around which are arranged women's services, to the east, and men's services, to the west: a total of 130 standard bathing cubicles in all, in addition to shower cubicles and special-purpose baths. The architects chose an extravagant Romano-Byzantine style, evocative of luxurious oriental hammams, with a large dome covered in colourful glazed tiles and two decorative minarets standing guard over the thermal spa water tanks. The opulent style didn't stop the architects incorporating the latest health and hygiene refinements, though, designed to provide an exceptionally light and airy environment. The building's interior decor also reflected current fashions, with frescoes in the lobby by symbolist painter Alphonse Osbert and Art Nouveau tiles in the luxury cubicles. After being extended between 1930 and 1935, the baths were partially demolished to make way for a hotel in 1978. Today, the north wing is still used for spa treatments.

Located where the Chomel and Grande Grille springs emerge naturally, on the site of the first spa establishments, the Hall of Springs (Hall des Sources) was built in 1903 by architects Charles Le Coeur and Lucien Woog. The design was modelled on the German trinkhalle, the idea being to gather a spa establishment's main springs at a single, easily accessible site, thus making it easier for curists to take the waters, facilitating the work of the water givers, while also encouraging foreign visitors to socialise and meet others. The hall's bright, open, airy cast-iron structure was created by Émile Robert, a wrought iron craftsman. He designed the elegant Art Nouveau-style railings and reproduced here the thistles decorating the promenade gallery. In 1928, the hall underwent major refurbishments: the perimeter railings were replaced by glass windows to protect visitors from draughts; the gargoyles were removed to clear the central area, and the glass skylight was raised and fitted with diamond-shaped panes to limit the greenhouse effect. A subsequent modernisation campaign in the early 1970s led to the removal of the original drinking stands and the water givers.

The Post Office, inaugurated by French Minister Georges Mandel in 1935, was built by architect Léon Azéma, a winner of the Grand Prix de Rome, who had been appointed Post Office architect seven years earlier. The previous post office stood in the former Cercle du Commerce et des Étrangers (Trade and Foreign Nationals Club) in the Passage de l'Opéra. However, the growing popularity of spa establishments, allied with an increasing influx of foreign visitors and the modernisation of communications systems, meant this office had become obsolete. The choice of this location, close to the train station, ideally placed between the spa district and the Town Hall, and its total footprint (2,150 m²) demonstrate the important status of the post office in a spa town such as Vichy. The building is designed in the Art Deco style that was very much in vogue in the 1930s. Its architecture combines functionality and attractive design, with an imposing yet understated facade, adorned with geometric patterns, made with vibrated concrete using yellow gravel from the Saône River, mixed with sand and grey gravel from the Allier to achieve a light tone. In addition to the usual services, the Post Office offered a letter-writing salon, as well as a summer telephone cabin room and a winter public room, with attendance and usage varying according to the season. Today, the Vichy Post Office symbolises the golden age of the spa industry, testifying to the town's ability to adapt to the demands of a modern, cosmopolitan clientele.

Built in 1908 under the impetus of Joseph Aletti, director of the Société des Grands Hôtels de Vichy, and the Compagnie Fermière de Vichy, the golf course was part of a drive to breathe new life into the town, making it more modern and sophisticated. In the early 20th century, Vichy, already famous for its spa treatments and charming way of life, attracted an international elite – the sports-loving British in particular. Against this backdrop, the golf course became a popular leisure and social venue, fully meeting the expectations of a demanding clientele. The first 9-hole course was laid out by champion Arnaud Massy on a 25-hectare site, with an artificial river running through it and croquet and boules facilities for ladies. In 1912, the course was extended to 14 holes, then to 18 holes in 1914, for a total surface area of 40 ha. The Vichy golf course, now owned by club members, welcomes some 1,500 regular and occasional players every year, and hosts around 40 competitions. The Neo-Norman-style clubhouse, the original bell tower of which has now disappeared, was designed by Gustave Simon, a Deauville-born architect at the Compagnie Fermière.

From the early 19th century onwards, this site was occupied by the Hôtel Sornin, ideally located between Vichy's historic town centre and the nascent Vichy thermal spa establishment, bordering the park. In 1888, following its acquisition of the neighbouring hotel, the establishment was expanded and renamed the Grand Hôtel Bonnet et de la Restauration. Some twenty years later, the complex was demolished to make way for the Hôtel Astoria. At this time, the new building, designed by Moulins-based architect René Moreau and inaugurated in 1910, was managed by Léon Soalhat, owner of the neighbouring Hôtel International. The hotel stood on a plot the shape of which imposed a "ship's prow" profile, a principle that would also be adopted in 1932 for the Hôtel des Célestins, in view of the Rue du Maréchal Foch opposite. The hotel boasts an unusual interior layout with a Société Générale branch office on the ground floor, while the hotel's communal areas, such as the lobby, lounge, and dining room, are relegated to the mezzanine. During World War II, the Hôtel Astoria housed the Tunisian Office and the General Secretariat of the LVF (Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism). It closed its doors to be converted into a residence in 1988.
