Uncovering Gaillac-d'aveyron's local gems

A path in the valley, from St Saturnin de Lenne, in a Causse countryside. 1. Take the littel street, just in front of the church until the bridge. When you reach the road D2, turn left. 2. At the cemetery, turn right and walk on the road D582. 3. 300 m further on, at the cross, turn right, in direction of "Trescanous". At the mill, go straight on, until the hamlet "Orbis" (public bread oven). 4. After the hamlet, turn right in direction of "Lenne". Go through the hamlet. The large building was an orphanage. It is now a holiday center. 5. At the church, turn right, cross the road D45 and go straight along the path just opposite.  You join the village "St Martin de Lenne". 6. Before entering the village, turn right. Go straight on for 3 km. 7. 3 km further on, at the cross paths, marked by a cross, turn left in direction of "Grun", an old mansion of the XIVth century. Pass through the hamlet and along the beautiful building. Continue until the road D2 and continue back to the village of St Saturnin de Lenne.

Around Campagnac, go to discover the Causse architecture and smell the scent of boxwood. Borrow the D37 to Saint-Laurent-d'Olt on 300 m. At the Iron Cross, take the left path.It runs along the limestone cliffs of the Ancize (view over the ravine of Courtineaux and Lot valley picnic area). At the junction, follow the right path.It climbs to the house of painter (private property).After the high voltage line, the road descends into the wood. 100 m after the ruin of a vine house, turn left into the path that goes back on the shelf.At the top, continue the path in front of 100 m, then turn left. Just before the high voltage line, follow the path left for a few meters, then turn right on the small road lined with big boxwood.Enter the pine wood and then continue through the boxwood  until Campagnac.Cross the village center, then go down to join the gendarmerie.

This physically challenging loop leads from the banks of the river Tarn to the Causse Méjean plateau, and offers  gorgeous panoramic views onto the Tarn Gorges and the Causse de Sauveterre. From the carpark in La Malène, cross the river Tarn and take the path on the right after the bridge. Take the first footpath on the left (after 300 m) and climb onto the Causse Méjean plateau. Go through Rieisse and, on leaving the hamlet, continue straight ahead towards the Roc des Hourtous. At the panoramic viewpoint of Les Hourtous, walk past the snack bar on its right to take a path that runs parallel to the ridge for 800 m. Then take the path downhill on the left to join up with the path overlooking the Tarn. Turn right onto it to return to the starting-point.

Hiking trail accessible to all towards the site of Luzençon and its chapel of the 12th century. Enjoy A 360° breathtaking view! Go along the Cernon river on the leftside bank in direction of "Linas". At the first bridge cross the stream then turn left. Go along until the second bridge and cross over. The road leads to the beautiful hamlet of Linas. In the village, take the right path of the cross then leave it 100 m further to follow the one on the left that goes along a field. Reach a first crossway and follow up on the opposite path. At the second crossway keep straight ahead and join on the flat part, a larger track to follow on the left. Go through the hamlet of Crayssaguet until the sheepfold and go along to find a soil path. Once arriving opposite a field go back up the left path. Cross the road and get on the track that goes up on the opposite side until the entrance of Luzençon hamlet. Turn left, then immediatly on the right, the road that goes to the summit of the mound (wonderful panorama on the surronding causses and valley;viewpoint indicator). Come back down the typical small streets that leads to Saint-Georges de Luzençon. Outstanding fountain to see on the way.

Starting in the hamlet of Dargilan, which gave its name to the cave, you go through Scots pine forests, across open landscapes and past handsome fortified farms. You straddle three departments. From the car park, take the track suitable for motor vehicles that leads to Sérigas.1) Go through the hamlet to reach the D 39. Turn right onto the road, then leave it again to take the second on the left, towards Le Marjoab. At the top of the slope, go right and pass through several gates to reach Le Marjoab.2) Cross the village and take the road that leads to the D 47. Turn right onto the D 47. At the second intersection, turn right. The track joins up with the D 47c: turn left onto it and at the next crossroads turn right and continue to Les Mazes.3) From les Mazes, continue straight ahead on the track till you reach Alluech.4) In the village of Alluech, continue left between the houses. Cross the road and follow the path opposite to the GR® 62a trail.5) Turn right onto the GR; the path between two hedges continues in the forest. It comes out on a road: turn left onto it and continue to the hamlet of Luc.6) By the farm, leave the road for a path that passes close to a farm building. Continue on this path, which joins up with the D 47c.7) Turn left onto the road and, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead on the D 139 till you reach the car park in Dargilan that you started from.

On this trail, discover a very agricultural village, a restored dovecote, the flora of the causses, Neolithic man and the anecdote of the 3 bishops. An easy hike for the whole family. The atmosphere of the Causse is spectacular, with its vast stretches of desert and its silence. A few burning bushes and boxwoods add to the rugged authenticity of the land. The hamlet of Les Mazes is on the Causse Noir. Here, the land is arid, and sheep are king. And the 3 bishops? When the départements were created, around 1790, the 3 bishops of Gard, Lozère and Aveyron got together and deposited this cross at the boundaries. In about 1790, when France’s départements were created, the three bishops of the Gard, Lozère and Aveyron decided to celebrate the new administrative division by having this cross put up...Enjoy the beautiful Causse atmosphere, with its vast prairie-like spaces, where sheep reign! Signposts will guide you all along this route, as well as yellow painted waymarks. In the description below, the signposted place names and/or directions are given in bold italics between quotation marks:From the departure-point, take the road leading to Les "Mazes hamlet". In the hamlet, head towards "Croix des Trois Evêques » via "Le Sabel".  At “Croix des Trois Evêques”, turn right onto the small road for 800m. Take on your right the path to return to "Les Mazes". Walk along the right-hand side of the farm buildings. Just after the farm buildings, at the road, turn right and go through the hamlet to return to your point of departure.

Bramabiau is one of those grandiose and bizarre works of nature. A veritable cradle of French speleology, the tour is 1 km long and very accessible. Immerse yourself in art and nature at Aigoual! This circuit reveals regularly renewed installations inspired by nature and the landscapes of Mont-Aigoual. Built on the Causse, next to a Roman road, the small chapel dominates the hamlet of Lenne.This small oratory is dedicated to the Virgin. A Way of the Cross goes from Lenne to the small chapel, in addition to a roadway. A lot of pilgrims and visitors go to this site all along the year. Private property.

In 1755, it was one of the most important domain of the region: 4 pairs of oxes, 31 animals with horns, 4 mares, 408 animals which produced wool. The domain produced wheat, rye, barley, oats.

The first church of St Saturnin de Lenne, which dominates the Serre valley, was built during the 11th century. It had been reconstructed during the 12th century, then enlarged during the 13th.During the 11th century, Bégon de Calmont gave the churches of St Saturnin and La Roque to the abbey of Conques. Around 1100, monks started to reconstruct the church. But works stopped.During the 13th century, the tower was completed by the building of a bell room lighted by 4 bays and covered by a dome with shale tiles.The 19th century brought numerous transformations : bays were opened in the east end, 2 bays were added between 1852 and 1856. Finally, an architech of Mende proposed to elevate the bell tower and to add a roof light of 8 small columns, of the Neo-Byzantine style.Outside, sculptures represent historiated scenes (birds, horsemen, ...) from the end of the 11th century, in particular on the modillions of the east end and the transept.

Our 1808 house, typical of the Châtaigneraie region, is located in a village of just under 500 inhabitants. It was completely renovated in 2018 and offers 3 guest rooms.
