Hike in a beautiful glacial valley where you can find in June some rare orchids. Care for good hiking shoes, some paths are wet and slippery. In Malbo restaurant and bar to take a breather or eat something. D - DEPART: From the church at LACAPELLE-BARRES. Return to just before the D990. To the right a path leads to the bridge. Cross the bridge and take the path to the left. 1 - Higher up take the 2nd path on the right. Follow this to the D401. 2 - .Follow the D 401 on the left and 50m before the crossroad of CHATOUR cross the field to the right and cross the Siniq. A good cobblestone track climbs to NOUVIALLE (this track can be very wet underfoot.) 3 - Cross the village and follow the road 4 - Take the path to the left. The path leads to the D57.View to the Puy de Bâne 5 - Climbing again take the path on the left to just behind ROUPON and to the left to a ford (a little footbridge to the right). 6 - Arrive on the road and take the path at right climbing to MALBO (can be very muddy). Cross the village and in a bend to the right follow the road for 300m. Take the path to the left, further on the path descends very steeply to LA FRANCIO. 7 - Cross the road. follow at right. Ahead the path climbs to LABRO and right behind CHATOURS. Viex to the Aubrac plateau. 8 - After the "vacherie of Malmeza" follow the same direction in private land and 300m further below cross the stile. A path leads to the bridge and to the point of departure by a path on the left after the bridge. Mountainbike: not possible, too dangerous and wet paths.

A picturesque waterfall with a natural bassin Waterfall of the Siniq river forming a natural pont. Water is enjoyable in summer but, coming directly out of the mointains, always very fresh. D - Starting point at Capat near Malbo (take the D 54, then turn right in direction of La Francio/Capat). C Pass Capat and continue by car until the parking (1 km, drivers attention: deep ditches!). 1 - Follow the blue marking and cross a pasture (30 minutes there and back). Hiking trail "La Font Salada". This pleasant route, always on unpaved paths, crosses the Fontsalade stream from its source to its confluence with the Maurs near the highlight of the route: the mineral fountain of Fontsalade (from the Occitan word for "salty fountain"). "Saint-Projet-de-Salers" hike.

A 3 hours hike on the pastures of the Cantal Mountains with several mountain huts called "burons" where people made formerly in the summer the famous Cantal cheese. A pleasant hike above the Brezons Valley. D – DEPART: From VIGOUROUX at the beginning of the tarred path take the car until the forest (2,5 km). Do not follow the large path opposite but make your way to the left alongside the wall. Then penetrate the wood by a path to the left. 1 - Descend to the right on a large path which crosses a beech wood, follow the edge before following the stream. Cross the stream on a bridge of stones. Climb up opposite until the road. 2 - Follow the road until MONTREAL. Pass between the houses and continue on the path which keeps to the left. Follow it. At the crossroads leave the left branch and continue until a crossroad passing in front of a farm. 3. Follow opposite on a large path between meadows. At the following fork continue right in the direction of an old cowshed with corrugated blue roof. The route of the ramble arrives at the point of the beech wood. Stay on this good path which turns to the left and reach a parking place. 4 - The path passes near the ruins of the Buron du Louvatier. Beautiful view to the High Valley of Brezons and the Cantal mountains. Stay on the good path on the left until a parking place. 5 - Leave the track and take a grassy path in undergrowth. At the first crossroad go up to the right. By some bends join a large track. 6 - Follow to the left on the edge of the wood. Follow it until an opening in the wood. View to the Lebréjal and Aubrac plateau. 7 - At the following crossroad turn left on a path which again finds the wood. At the following crossroad go right then stay on this good track until the departure point. Mountainbike: difficult level. Time: count 1 hr 30 minutes. Difficult rise and uneven track between 1 and 2. Difficult descent between 1 and 2.

A pleasant hike with 5 waterfalls which leads between beeches on to the upland pastures at 1390 m altitude in the Grandval cirque. From Brezons take the road D 39 until Le Bourguet, then turn left until the parking before Sanissage. Departure sign. D - Take the hiking path at right 1 - After a little glade enter into the wood 2 - You arrive at the waterfall "Cascade de la Saut de la Biche" 3 - Ascend the path at left and follow it 400 m until the Livernade waterfall. 4 - Climb down the platform to see the Livernade waterfall. 5 - Continue until the wooden bridge. The waterfall "Arbre de Biche" is just 30 m below the wooden bridge (cross the bridge and return afterwards). Follow the path until the end of the wood. Climb up to the pasture. 6 - Beautiful view to the left until "Tombe du père" et "Pourtoune". 7 - Turn at right to the waterfall. Follow the path at right the creek and go down into the wood. Then, at 300m 8 - Cross the creek. 300m later the path turns right and descends into the wood 9 - The path joins the large trail near the waterfall "Arbre de Biche". 10 - The large path passes near the waterfall "Traou de Longue" (sign at left) and continues until Dolvadenche and the parking at Sanissage. The Rock of Carlat is a major place steeped in history. In olden days, a huge fortress had risen there, renowned to become “the most formidable citadel” of all South of France. The fortress peaked its greatest splendour under the aegis of Jacques d’Armagnac, childhood companion of Louis XI, and his wife Louise d’Anjou, first cousin and goddaughter of the king. A century later, Queen Margot came to stay when she was in exile. She left an unforgettable memory all around the Carladès region… In 1603, Henri IV ordered to destroy the citadel and nowadays, there only remains minuscule traces of this majestic construction. The town hall exposes a model. As for the rock, it henceforth belongs to Prince Albert II of Monaco. However, in summer 2017, the fortress will be brought to life…through a VR-Visit, the result of a superb project involving the local authority of Aurillac and the village of Carlat. In the heart of the Mounts of Cantal in the Jordanne Valley, between Aurillac and the Puy Mary, come and visit the village and its church. Through a monumental work of more than 100 m², discover the life of Gerbert, this child of the country, who became the first French Pope under the name of Sylvester II, known as the Pope of the Year 1000, illustrious scientist, "maker of kings ”. These frescoes, by the Hungarian painter Gábor Szinte produced in 2005, depict the great periods of Gerbert's life. The paid application “ST-SIMON - LA VIE DE GERBERT” offers a visit accessible to the greatest number directly on smartphone or tablet, in French, English and Hungarian in the form of a route that begins in the central square of the village, then at the foot of the Church Tower, continues inside the church in front of the thirteen paintings by Gábor SZINTE, in front of the baptismal font, and ends not far from there, on the superb medieval stone bridge spanning the Jordanne River. Optics, sound, light: the "Enchanted Walk" brightens our senses! As fun as it is innovative, this animation was set up by the Aurillac Agglomération on the first 2 kilometers of the Tour du golf de Vézac trail. Curious walkers discover 6 instrumental sculptures and a final group, made up of superimposed trompe-l'oeil plans before revealing themselves in 3D. La Balade welcomes you free of charge every day, all year round. By day, the instruments challenge you with sound. At nightfall, the orchestra offers all its brilliance in sound... and in Light! It also highlights remarkable trees of the course, between impeccable grass and undergrowth.

Over a 4 km round trip, the trail crosses gorges 20 m to 60 m deep, carved by water over the centuries into volcanic breccias. Along the Jordanne, the fishermen's path invites you to cross from one bank to the other on a wooden footbridge, an arched bridge and many other unusual structures! Then climb 30 m up the ledge to cross the glacial lock and enter the "chaos": here, boulders dot the riverbed. Test your knowledge of rocks, flora and fauna along the way. From Aurillac, take this tourist route and discover one of the most beautiful panoramas on the Cantalien volcano. Open your eyes and let yourself be guided: - The chapel of St Jean de Done, a few kilometers from Aurillac: this former commandery of the Order of the Knights of Malta is a pure marvel of architecture. - The orientation table of Alquier culminates at 977 meters of altitude. Accessible to everyone (only 200 m walk from the parking lot), it offers a 360 degree panorama of the Monts du Cantal. - The chapel of Roquenatou is located at 900 meters of altitude in the direction of Marmanhac. At the junction of Broize, take the direction of Marmanhac. A former priory erected by Géraud d'Aurillac in the 9th century, this sanctuary has always been dedicated to the Holy Virgin and known as Notre-Dame de Roquenatou. It has belonged for many years to the owners of the Sedaiges de Marmanhac castle (see page ). Come back on the route des Crêtes and continue your way to the Croix de Cheules. Take the direction of St Cirgues de Jordanne to reach the Puy Mary by the Jordanne Valley. You may wonder if the route des crêtes is not too narrow and dizzying! It overhangs the Jordanne Valley on all its length but the road remains wide enough to cross with another vehicle even if it is a truck or a tractor! So no stress and have a good ride!

You will also discover geology, mineralogy, solar viewfinder … for a step back in time.

“La Plantelière” is an excellent place to explore flora and fauna and it covers an area of 7Ha (17.3 acre), on the doorsteps of Aurillac. The site consists of several spaces with a wide variety of trees: maples, conifers, fruit trees, ash trees, willows, thuja, beeches… Explore its themed gardens, wildflower meadows, hedge maze, vegetable garden, orchards, educational pond... Here, maintenance and gardening are carried out without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. La Plantelière is open to visitors free of charge, with explanatory panels and orientation trails (downloadable from aurillacagglo.fr/planteliere). A reading box, large wooden games and numerous activities bring the site to life.

In a former Visitandines convent (17th century), later converted into National Stud farm, the museum has been part of the Pierre Mendès France cultural centre since 1992. The Musée d'art et d'archéologie (Museum of Art and Archaeology) takes visitors on a journey through the history of people and the region. The ethnographic collections evoke the region's popular and industrial traditions, such as umbrella production, an ancient skill for which the town is renowned. Tools and manufacturing accessories are displayed alongside precious and system umbrellas. The rich archaeological collections retrace life and settlement in the Cantal region from its earliest origins to the medieval period. Paleolithic bifaces, tools and furniture from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic periods precede the evocation of local Gallo-Roman and medieval sites. The exhibition concludes with the presentation of remains from the Saint-Géraud Abbey in Aurillac. The final level, devoted to the painting and sculpture collections, covers the main trends in the history of art from the 15th to the 20th century. The display sheds light on different stylistic trends, illustrated by religious and historical painting, portraits, landscapes and genre scenes. It concludes with a selection of contemporary works of art (sculpture, painting, graphics) by Aurillac collector Jean-Claude Sergues. Punctuating the tour, showcases present some of the rich collections of the Muséum des Volcans (currently closed), offering a cross-fertilization of the arts and sciences.
