Beautiful lake nestling in a hollow surrounded by enormous rocks and boulders at the foot of the Chamonix Aiguilles Departure from the cable car station of Plan de l'Aiguille, then left tendency, continue for a few moments: the lake suddenly appears to the eyes of the walkers. This hike is located on the northern side of the valley, in the middle of the mountain. The departure and arrival points are served by ski lifts. The route is described in the most pleasant sense : view, difference in level From the cable car station, head down towards the Refuge du Plan de l'Aiguille. Do not take the two paths leading down to Chamonix via Plan du Trois or Pré du Rocher. Go right horizontally on the path that crosses the Tapia, the torrent and the lower moraines of the Blaitière and Nantillons glaciers. At this point, turn left onto the Chamonix trail through the Alpages de Blaitière. Continue horizontally, crossing the Grépon torrent. Above Grand-Chalet, pause to admire the impressive panorama of the Aiguilles de Chamonix: I'M, les Charmoz, Blaitière, le Plan, l'Aiguille du Midi... and Mont-Blanc. Shortly afterwards, at 2,071 m, there's a fork in the road: to the left, a steep shortcut leads Montenvers, cutting through steep couloirs that are dangerous in snow (for experienced hikers). To the right, take the panoramic path, winding up and crossing over to the lower Signal des Charmoz, then to Signal Forbes (2,198 m). The view changes abruptly: les Drus, la Verte, les Jorasses... On the Mer de Glace side, a long, winding descent leads to Montenvers, the hotel and the train station. This can be done from Montenvers to Aiguille du Midi. Unbeatable views over the Glacier des Bossons and the Aiguilles de Chamonix. Belvedere lookout. Chalet-restaurant. A great spot to contemplate before the glacier. Information boards describing the life and history of the glacier. Souvenir: ice extraction from the glacier for the valley's cafés and hotels. Upstream of the village, take the Chemin du Chens, which winds through the fields, enter the forest and follow the path to the chairlift and chalet. View of the Glacier des Bossons. Very pleasant ascent through the undergrowth near the torrents. Easy access. Starting point Route du Téléski aux pèlerins d'en haut. Cross the large footbridge over the Creuse, through the forest to the paved Songenaz road. Go up to the forest path on the left. Continue up a few hairpin bends in the undergrowth. Reach the glacial moraine and the Chalet du Cerro. Other routes are possible from Chamonix, the Cascade du Dard, or Les Bossons. A very pleasant walk through the cool of the woods at first, then above the tree line with magnificent views of the glaciers, the Aiguilles de Chamonix, Mont Blanc and the Grand Balcon Nord. From point I, go to the start by crossing the Grépon parking lot in the direction of the jumping board. Take the path on the right and follow it through the forest or corridor until you reach the forest track coming from Molliasses. Cross it under the cables of the cable car while going up in front of it, then leave on the left the path of the Pré du Rocher. Continue in the forest by the Plan du Trois. Continue above between big boulders until the refuge. Refreshment bar near the cable car. Private refuge : dormitories - restaurant at the arrival. Possibility to go back down by cable car. Other departure possible from Les Pèlerins. This hike allows you to walk to the Grand Balcon Nord and to reach the Montenvers - Mer de Glace site from the Plan de l'Aiguille (about 2h30). A waterfall near the entrance of the Mont-Blanc tunnel. In a lovely green setting, this is the last in a series of waterfalls whose swirling, sparkling waters are one of nature's wonders. From the Centre ville Grepon car park in Chamonix, on your right take Chemin du Batioret, which runs alongside Route Blanche. Cross the bridge over the mountain stream and head up to Les Molliasses. Continue past the forest track on your left. Turn right up to the road leading to the tunnel. Follow it for about 50 metres, then turn left to take a shortcut over a short distance. This trail goes through the Chamonix valley, taking you to the Merlet Animal Park from Les Bossons. All along, there are wonderful views over the Valley and the Mont Blanc Massif. Take the Chemin de la Vigne which crosses the Arve river and go up to the right in the small wood of the Ravin des Vouillouds. The path joins the one coming from Les Gaillands. A small but splendid body of water, Lac Bleu enchants hikers who are fond of mountain lakes and also impresses visitors who stop off at the Plan de l'Aiguille on their way up to the Aiguille du Midi. An easy trail that starts from the arrival point of the Plan de l'Aiguille cable car (about 15 minutes), Lac Bleu is set in a beautiful verdant landscape enhanced by the rocks and crystal-clear waters. A natural site, the glacier descends in a direct line from the summit of Mont Blanc (4807), the highest Alpine peak, by a cascade of ice in levels up to the altitude of 1180 meters, the lowest in the Alps for the terminal tongue of a glacier. The vertical drop of 3670 meters is the largest in the world, for a glacier descending in one piece from the top of the summit to its base. Numerous viewpoints allow to admire the color and the purity of the ice, the lateral moraines, the seracs and sometimes the serac falls.

The Taconnaz glacier is a glacier located in the Mont-Blanc massif between the communes of Les Houches and Chamonix. Visible during the walk to the Pyramides viewpoint and the Jonction.

Le Dard is a superb waterfall towering 20 meters high at an altitude of 1,233 meters. It offers a beautiful viewpoint about 45 minutes from the centre of Chamonix. View over the Aiguilles Rouges range, the Les Bossons glacier and Mont-Blanc. From Le Grepon car park in Chamonix, turn right on the "Chemin à Batioret » path that leads to the Fabrique des Sonnettes Devouassoud bell workshop by Route Blanche. Cross the footbridge over the torrent and climb up towards Les Molliasses. Ignore the forest track on the left, and turn right as far as the Tunnel access road. Follow it for 50 meters or so then head left along the short cut for a short distance. Continue uphill through the woods, ignoring the path on the right that comes from Les Pélerins. Take the footbridge over the Dard stream and carry on up to the chalet.

HISTORY 1786, August 8th : FIRST ascent By Michel Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat. Departure around 4 am from a bivouac at the top of the Côte mountain. Have fun at the foot of Mont Blanc! The natural site of the Mer de Glace comes from the glaciers of Leschaux and Géant. The Mer de Glace is the largest glacier in France: 7 km long, 40 km2 in area, 200 m thick, altitude 1913 m. Soak up the high mountain atmosphere of the place, contemplating the Drus (3754m), and the Grandes Jorasses (4208m), mythical summits that have seen so many mountaineers illustrate themselves in their faces. In 1741, the Englishmen Windham and Pocock, ignoring the local superstitions, visited the famous "glaciers" of the Chamonix valley, considered at the time as haunts of demons. Despite dire predictions, they came down alive and described for the first time what they called the Mer de Glace. 1880, the Grand Hôtel du Montenvers was inaugurated, the time when mules and sedan chairs brought the first tourists to the site, at an altitude of 1913m. In 1892, the project to build a railroad to reach Montenvers was launched. It aroused fierce opposition from Chamonix residents who feared the alteration of their valley and wanted to protect the jobs of the guides and muleteers. 1908, on August 9th, the line opened up to the place called "Caillet".

Welcome to the Buvette du Cerro! Accessible on foot, the Buvette du Cerro is located on the right bank of the Bossons glacier, between the Dard waterfall and the Plateau des Pyramides. Signposted path from Les Bossons and the various access parking lots (Dard and Cerro). Cold drinks and snacks are available on the terrace facing the Bossons glacier. Note: no full catering available at present.

Located on the edge of the Bossons Glacier, this friendly chalet with its flowered terrace opens your eyes to the grandiose spectacle of broken seracs and unfathomable crevasses. Chalet buvette next to the superb 20 meter high waterfall. View on the Aiguilles Rouges chain, the Bossons glacier and the Mont-Blanc. The Cascade du Dard restaurant offers a varied menu featuring home-made dishes based on local produce (cheese, charcuterie, wine...) and recipes from our region: Fondue, reblochonnade, and the famous "Farçon de mamie", a recipe handed down from generation to generation. Situated close to the arrival of the Mont Blanc Tramway, the Nid d'Aigle refuge, built in a circular arc, is particularly well integrated into the landscape. Please note that reception conditions will change this summer 2025 due to the TMB works. SUMMER 2025 Due to ongoing work on the Mont Blanc tramway, access to the Nid d'Aigle will be modified this summer. There are two ways to get to the refuge: - On foot, via the Plat de l'Are path, with a 985 m difference in altitude and a cabled passage ("échelles"). This hike is rated as "difficult" and requires you to be well equipped. At the start of the season, check that the path is cleared of snow if you are not a mountaineer. - By train, subject to conditions: > The tramway is reserved for mountaineers with a confirmed reservation in a hut on the normal route (Nid d'Aigle, Tête Rousse or Goûter) > Tickets must be booked in advance, > And be sure to check the "mountaineer" timetable, as not all trains run to the Nid d'Aigle during the construction work. Facing the Pointe Percée, the highest point in the Aravis massif, and dominated by the Aiguilles du Goûter (3,863m) and Bionnassay (4,052m), our terrace is an ideal place for contemplation. The impressive Bionnassay glacier is just a stone's throw away: early risers are likely to come across an ibex on its moraine. Climbers returning late from the roof of Europe are always welcome: they can even reward themselves with a fondue! The dormitories are equipped with duvets and pillows, so all you need is a personal sheet. Sanitary facilities are available outside the refuge. There are no showers. For those who wish to cook for themselves, we can provide a non-sack room: remember to bring your own cooking equipment. Our cook can also prepare pasta, omelettes and cold meats for you throughout the day.

Located at 1120m above les Houches, on the sunny side facing the Mont Blanc massif. It can accommodate 28 people, with the option of 1/2 board or self-catering. The gite was completely renovated in 2008, but on the first floor, the living areas remain as they were in the old gite two hundred years ago.

Plan Glacier is an old-fashioned refuge, a simple wooden refuge like you don’t see anymore. The comfort is basic, but one comes there to find an authentic mountain experience, to live the conviviality of the moments shared in small committee in the simple beauty of the nature. It is a refuge where we sleep against each other in a small dormitory of 18 beds. There are no showers and the dry toilets are rudimentary. The refuge is accessible by a demanding hike, one of the most beautiful in the massif. It crosses alpine meadows and culminates in a high mountain landscape. Mountaineering is possible from the refuge. Wildlife is often present in the vicinity of these trails, which are of geological and historical interest. You will find a warm welcome and delicious food! For mountaineers, from Plan Glacier, it is possible to climb the Arête Mettrier, the Dômes de Miage, the Aiguille Bionnassay...

Rustic and typical chalet (250 years old), large kitchen and large space upstairs, remained in the spirit of the time, traditional and friendly. It has remained almost as it was two centuries ago. Le Vieux Grassonnet can accommodate about twenty people: individuals, small or large groups... A kitchen, a dining room, a living room and the barn in the summer allow the guests to be totally autonomous.
