Through this path you will enter the domain of Jean des Fraulières, an old charcoal maker who supplied charcoal to all the surrounding communes of the lake. Along the way, you will discover a millstone, a fountain and a hut, all of which bear witness to the charcoal-making activity. You will also see the Ribeyrès Viaduct. Hiking trail "Tour of the Rénac Peninsula". This path along Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès will take you to the very heart of this water reservoir with beautiful views of the lake, the cliffs and the dam. Hiking trail "Link to the Cassan Marsh". From Saint-Étienne-Cantalès, this route follows a ridge path which offers a panoramic view of the Mounts of Cantal and the Monts Dore. It follows part of the Way of St James (Via Arverna) and joins the hike of the Cassan and Prentegarde Marshes. Hiking trail "of the beautiful views”. Omps is a small medieval village grouped around its 12th century church in which one can admire a beautiful 16th century pietà. This circular village has typical old houses as well as a century-old fountain. Mountain bike route "Tour in the Ségala". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. In the heart of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne, you'll discover all the geographical and morphological diversity of the area. Between the granite reliefs, views of the Le Rouget and the Mounts of Cantal on the first part of the route, the unspoilt nature and Natura 2000® designation around the pretty village of Roumégoux and the more forested areas around Glénat a little further along the route, finishing on a section dominated by the south-western part of Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès. Departures: Le Rouget (Pond Moulin du Teil), Roumégoux (Rue Saint-Géraud) or La Ségalassière (Rue du Ségala).

It passes by the hamlet of Mestries, a lazaret that used to house lepers. Mountain bike route "From the quays to the lakeshore". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. This circuit along the river starts in the heart of the picturesque village of Laroquebrou (Place du Foirail). As we leave the medieval village, we leave the River Cère to reach Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Dam lake. A rolling, family-friendly route, this loop allows you to discover a beautiful built heritage as well as vast areas of plains and forests. You also have the chance, during this route, to walk along the famous and historic Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Dam, built between 1939 and 1945, before reaching Laroquebrou and its older part, spread out near the promontory of Montal Castle.

Discover this site located at 550 m with your family thanks to an interpretation trail (2.5 km). The site is made up of a group of wet meadows, marshes and peaty moors which are home to droseras (carnivorous plants), among other things. Amongst the remarkable fauna that the marsh shelters, there are various amphibians and reptiles, a great diversity of dragonflies such as the southern damselfly or the orange-spotted emerald, the Eurasian otter… Site classified as a sensitive natural area.

The Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Dam is an arch-gravity dam built between 1939 and 1945. Free visits in French of the hydroelectric power station of Saint-Étienne-Cantalès are organized by EDF and the Visitors Bureau in Laroquebrou every Friday from June to September and every Tuesday between 07/15 and 08/19: historical aspects, functioning, safety... The second largest artificial lake in Auvergne is 13 km long and covers an area of 563 ha.
