La Doucelle, Chambres et table d'hôtes

Welcome to the aptly named Doucelle ... Our Relais de charme, Maison d'hôtes & de cultures is nestled in a pretty little village in the heart of the Normandie Maine Regional Nature Park, on the Mayenne/Orne border, a 2? hour drive from Paris West, and 1 hour from Caen/Laval/Le Mans. Surrounded by forests and hedged farmland, this former presbytery has been lovingly restored by a couple with a passion for music, nature, encounters and the arts, and offers 5 beautiful rooms for rent (from 14 to 38m2, including a family suite), each bearing the name and atmosphere of a cult song from France's heritage. The house, designed as an invitation to relax, contemplate and reconnect with nature and the senses, boasts a number of comfortable areas (large lounges, dining room, cosy fireplace and armchairs, contemporary art, sound therapy room), a terrace overlooking the magnificent 5,000m2 landscaped park (with many trees and a small pond), a large 500m2 vegetable garden with its vegetables and plants (which we use for our table d'hôtes, in addition to a fine selection of gourmet products from the surrounding area for healthy, authentic cuisine). Initiate yourself to sonotherapy, in sound travel mode, and enjoy our massages, to relax in a different way, our hammocks, deckchairs, table tennis table, our many board games (classic and more exotic), or the bowls and tennis courts adjacent to the house. Come and take part in our courses (naturopathy, art therapy, forest therapy...), and let go. Privatise La Doucelle and create a friendly, authentic setting for your corporate events (team building, seminars, conference meetings) or celebrations (birthdays, weddings). To respect the environment and the slow philosophy, La Doucelle attaches great importance to minimising its carbon footprint, and pays particular attention to its energy consumption (geothermal energy), waste management (composting, sorting, zero waste), re-use & recycling (vintage furniture, repairs, wabi sabi), and product sourcing (100% organic, sustainable or local, no toxic products). Find out all about the programme on our website, including the organisation of weekends based around music and well-being (massage, meditation, sound therapy etc)... Calm, cosy, country-style and slow... It's "la Doucelle de vivre"! Find out more about Isabelle and Jonathan, the Slowlydays team.

Lavoir de Glanville (route de Deauville)
2.8 km

Lavoir de Glanville (route de Deauville)

The Glanville washhouse (on the road to Deauville), which is almost entirely original, is one of the ‘market-hall-style’ washhouses recorded in the Terre d’Auge region. This washhouse consists of a large square cement basin with washing boards running around the edge. The floor, which appears to be original, is made of bricks and cement. You will notice a small channel connected to a hole, which probably allowed the water to drain away. In addition, another hole is visible, containing a pipe that used to carry water to the basin. The washhouse is completely open on all four sides and has a wooden roof structure. The structure rests on four posts secured by cement flashings to hold the whole structure in place. If you look closely at these posts, you will see small notches or even rods, suggesting the probable presence of old clotheslines. The washhouse’s roof is made of slate and was designed to protect the washerwomen from the elements. The washhouse is situated near a stream and is therefore supplied with water from the Rû Saint Clair Saulnier, thanks to a diversion of part of the stream’s flow. In fact, this stream was developed in the 19th century to supply – and, above all, to maintain – a substantial flow of water to the Quesnoy mill, situated near the washhouse. Do feel free to stop off at the washhouse whilst passing by in your car or on your bike. You can also explore the village’s other washhouse, situated just a short walk away.

Military Cemetery in Tourgeville

The Tourgéville military cemetery is owned by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which maintains it. Created in 1918, it was fitted out in 1920. Its perpetual concession by France to the United Kingdom was provided for by law of December 29, 1915 (implementing decree November 25, 1920) so that the latter could have fallen soldiers buried there. on French soil, in particular the soldiers who died in the hospitals of the British army installed in Trouville-Deauville: from June 1917 from an "English" health camp on Mont-Canisy, then from October 1917 a 14th convalescent camp in Trouville-sur-mer and at the same time a fleet of trawlers in Deauville. It became important following the establishment, in February 1918, of the hospital sector of Trouville-sur-mer, which subsequently included the 72nd, 73rd, 74th general hospitals, and the 13th, 14th and 15th convalescent camps. At the end of the First World War, there were 293 graves of soldiers who died in camp, either from their wounds or more than a third of the Spanish flu: 209 graves of Commonwealth soldiers, 24 graves of soldiers American (recorded in 1932), 57 German graves (prisoners) and 3 civilian graves. Today, the cemetery brings together graves from the last two World Wars, friendly and enemy combatants, a total of 315 graves: 209 graves of Commonwealth soldiers including 19 sailors, soldiers and airmen, 8 soldiers from Australia, 8 from Canada, 1 from New Zealand, 13 graves of Allied soldiers from WWII, 90 German prisoners, and 3 civilians (one nurse and two civilians from the United Kingdom). It remains a calm, peaceful and well-maintained place. Some stelae have a rounded or pointed end in order to differentiate the British and German graves: soldiers from both camps in the same cemetery, a beautiful gesture of peace and a place of history not to forget ...

Lavoir de Beaumont-en-Auge (centre bourg)

The washhouse at Beaumont-en-Auge is one of the oldest washhouses built in the Communauté de communes Terre d'Auge area, as evidenced by the date engraved on the fountain: 1841. The washhouse is almost entirely original, except for the roof, which is made of wood and corrugated iron. The wash-house consists of a large rectangular basin with a smaller one to one side. Both have washing boards and are linked by a small sluice. There is a slight difference in height between the two. The boards of the smaller basin are lower. The assumption is that this was added later. What's more, it is currently uncovered, although traces of the old roof posts are still visible. Old building features can be seen: the basins are made of brick, which is quite rare in the area. The wash-house is made from a variety of materials, including granite and cement. It rests on six wooden posts, fixed by cement flashings to maintain and solidify the structure. The shape of the basins and the way the spaces are organised give the washhouse a certain architectural originality. The water supply system is interesting and ingenious. The water flowed into a very small basin to collect clean water, then passed through pipes under the washhouse before spurting out through a square hole. This square hole can still be seen in the masonry between the two basins. The old pipes run around the washhouse and are connected to a fountain. The washhouse appears to be fed by the nearby Guillots spring. Unfortunately, the fountain is now in a very poor state of repair. There is simply a pipe coming out of it. If you look closely at the fountain, you can see a few traces of decoration on the granite. Stone decoration was certainly installed on the structure. Today, the basins are no longer supplied with water due to a problem with the pipes. As you stroll through the village, don't miss this wash-house. It is close to the church and the Maison de naissance de Laplace.

Maison Mouche

Maison Mouche

A pretty brick village house, with a flowery, colorful atmosphere, a tribute to the rural life of the Beaumont people... After six months of work by decorator Johanna Amatoury, Maison Mouche opened its doors in June 2024. Here we like to welcome families, couples in love or groups of friends, yoga or writing retreats, small business seminars, city dwellers in search of the countryside who "just" want to stop time? There are guest rooms, of course, but also a delightful café-boutique open to all, and a healthy gourmet grocery store. Everything is organic and local. From matcha latte to kombucha, CBD oils to spirulina, the products have been selected with care and passion. You'll feel right at home here. Living room with fireplace, kitchen opening onto a guest table, curiosity cabinet with board games, cards, chess and backgammon, library corner? everything is designed to make you feel at home. The house has five large bedrooms, including a family suite, all of which can be made private. Five rooms, five worlds: Mouche, Coccinelle, Libellule, Papillon, Abeille. The spirit of the countryside is evident right from the stairwell, where a botanical garden has been designed by painter Charlotte Bohn? Each room is different in color and atmosphere, but each boasts space and light, and above all, views of the village or countryside, with their bucolic charm. A view shared by the large, comfortable bathrooms, with shower and bath. Served in rooms in antique baskets, breakfast is an invitation to savor time as much as the bread and croissants fresh from the oven of François, the famous Beaumont baker. Before strolling through the village, take a short tour of the basement, where a delightful spa offers massages, saunas, yoga and Pilates classes? Not surprising, given that the owners are none other than the creators of Tigre Yoga.
