The Glanville washhouse (Fontaine de la Bruyère) was restored in 2016.
This washhouse consists of a concrete basin for washing clothes and a small basin into which the water from the fountain flowed. Local residents used to come here to fetch clean water. If you look closely at this part, you’ll see that the water flow is still very strong. The washing area is also made of concrete, as is the washboard. The building is open on all four sides and has a wooden roof frame. The structure rests on four posts, which in turn rest on concrete plinths covered with bricks to stabilise the whole structure. You will also notice two swivelling clotheslines that were used for hanging out the washing. The washhouse is covered with corrugated iron on two sides.
The washhouse is supplied with water from the Bruyère fountain. To the left of the basin, a channel allows the water to flow into the small stream upstream.
Situated near a walking trail, accessible by bike or on foot, you’ll discover this washhouse and its unique features. You’ll also find the village’s other washhouse just a short walk away, which is completely different.
