Marking: green triangle 17km Discover an exceptional heritage and charming landscapes! The 17km route leads to the Bouzey reservoir which supplies the highest point of the Canal de l'Est. It is therefore a slightly uphill trail, often shaded and without any real difficulty. You will have to cross a few roads on safe, green marked crossings.

Épinal marks a transition in your cycling journey on the Voie Bleue: you will follow a wild part of the itinerary where the greenway along the Canal des Vosges will be your guiding thread. After cycling along the Bouzey Lake, the water supply of the Vosges canal, you pedal in a bucolic setting with very beautiful landscpaes that were shaped by the alignment of hundred-year-old ash trees. Before arriving in Bains-les-Bains, take the time to stop at the Manufacture Royale, visible from the greenway. From the port of Epinal, go up the Moselle along the canal towards the canal-bridge, then head for the Bouzey Lake and Bains-les-Bains. The green route is paved and marked out along the canal and its locks, with no difficulty. Key places: - Lake Bouzey: the largest lake in the Vosges, swimming allowed, bird watching - Manufacture de Bains les Bains: former 18th century tinplate factory, free visit - Thermes de Bains les Bains: spa and relaxation area for the day

Marking: green ring A pleasant urban and suburban route through the hills and forests of the Vosges with magnificent views of the city. Exit the car park, turn left onto the marking “o” through the rue des Soupirs for 50 m, then go up the stairs on the left and turn right a little further on into the Chemin des Gardes. At the top of the stairs, you will arrive to a path that offers a beautiful panoramic view of the town and leads you to Rue des Corvées. Go up to the left for 30 m, then turn right onto the Mont Carmel path. Cross the wood to go down rue des Soupirs towards the Quarante Semaine. Follow the markings “o” to get to the Guéry fountain after walking under a sandstone bridge with an old railway line that served the fortified belt of Épinal. From the fountain, turn right onto the path that winds along the foot of overhanging rocks. Go up the hillside to reach a ridge near a platform with a 100 m high antenna. Continue on the left to get near a stele built in memory of resistance fighters shot in 1944. Then walk for a long time through a varied forest composed of beeches, oaks, firs, spruces and Scots pines, and keep following the “o” markers. When you leave the forest, after the farm, you will find the cross of the Pestiférés on the left, 115 m away from the trail. Take the path through the fields. Near an old farm, turn left onto a road and then right onto the path which takes you back to the starting point via the viewpoint, the rue de la Pelle and the ruelle du Coteau.

Marking: blue disc 20 km Shaded walk in the Épinal forest, with remarkable trees and touristic sites. At the entrance to the forest, turn right onto the marked forest path (solid blue disc). After crossing the stream, continue to the left for 600 m. Then take the path on the left, marked out (solid blue triangle), then the Void des roches path for 400 m. In the curve, at the crossroads, turn right onto the path that leads to the Roche de la Grenouille. A little further on, take the path of the “ducs”, marked out (yellow diamond) which leads you to the cross of Bossottes after walking near a big Douglas, remarkable tree. Turn left onto the Saint-Oger path to reach a crossroads. Take the forest path of Maisonfaing for 3 km to pass near the "grands Douglas", a group of remarkable trees located slightly off the trail. Leave the big Douglas trees behind and take on the right the marked path, (blue solid disc) and (yellow diamond) in the direction of the Charlot rocks, following a nice little rocky valley. Cross the stream on the right and continue on the path to the dripping rock. Shortly after this, follow the marked path (red cross) for 600 m and at the crossroads, turn right to the Charmois trench to reach the Bossottes cross again. Turn left onto the Chemin des Prés Barthes. About 100 m further on, take the marked path (blue solid disc) to reach your starting point, the Folie Finot car park.

Marking: green disc 10.7km Discover a magnificent landscape at any time of the year; in autumn the colors are magnificent; in winter, under the snow, it is splendid; and in spring, it is full of life. From the centre of Épinal, take the D434 road towards Xertigny. At the second traffic lights after the Casino supermarket, turn right. You’ll pass under a railway bridge to reach a small car park with an information board, starting point of the trail. From the car park, take the rue de la Devallée which is marked out (green solid disc and red solid triangle) which goes up in the direction of the supply canal of the Bouzey Lake. Turn right onto the right bank path, alongside the canal. Cross the bridge, turn right onto the Chemin des Murgères, go up towards the forest for 150 m, then turn left onto the marked path (red triangle) entitled "circuit des coteaux de Saint-Laurent".

From the car park, take the marked rue de la Devallée (green solid disc) and (red solid triangle) which goes up towards the supply canal of the Bouzey Lake. Turn right onto the right bank path alongside the canal. Cross the bridge, turn right onto the Chemin des Murgères, go up towards the forest for 150 m, then turn left onto the marked path only (red solid triangle) entitled "circuit des coteaux de Saint-Laurent". Rest after the slope and take the time to enjoy the natural beauty of this mixed forest of deciduous and resinous species. Continue on a path with panoramic view over the Etranglieux valley and the old village of Vieux Saint-Laurent. The marked path only (red solid triangle) goes along a forest road for a while, then turns left to join it 600 m further on at Les Murgères. Go down the road for 20 m, then turn left onto the now marked path (green solid disc). A little further on, you arrive to a meadow at the end of which you turn right to enter the forest again. You cross a small tarmac road and walk along a fenced park. The marked dirt track (green solid disc) will lead you almost straight to the Bult pond. You are now in the middle of the route. At the entrance of the pond turn right onto the path marked Bertraménil, Riéfaing, Humbertois, Bouffrot. As you walk along the pond, the path enters a magnificent beech wood to arrive, after crossing a forest clearing, at the Riéfaing pond. At the bottom of the slope, follow on the left the marking (green solid disc) which goes along the pond and slightly overlooks it. Right after, you come out to a stony path that will lead you to the Humbertois farm in front of which you take the small tarmac road on the right. Follow it for 200 m and turn left onto the Bouffrot forest path in the Épinal forest. Go straight ahead following the markings (green solid disc) towards Bouffrot and Bertraménil. You arrive at the foot of an old quarry. Go around it by going up on the left. Once at the top, follow the ridge track straight on, which takes you to the Bouffrot rocks site. A little further down, you come to a forest track which you cross to go along the right-hand side of the Bouzey pond's supply canal, following the markings (green solid disc). After crossing a bridge, turn right to cross a syphon with stairs. You go along the canal again, on the left. 40 m further on, stop to look at a remarkable rock on the right in the mott called the Salière du Loup. Following the canal, you will find the tarmac road you took at the start 700 m further on, which will take you back to the car park. Markings: green disc

Marking: yellow ring 9km Pleasant hilly path in the forest of Deyvillers. After the kiosk, turn left onto the marked path (yellow disc) which leads to a small tarmac road. Turn left, then immediately right and follow the small tarmac road that goes slightly uphill. Following the marking (yellow disc), you’ll come to a gravel path that leads you into the forest. 800 m after entering it, you will see a pond on your right. Continue on the path and turn right along a fence. Take the footbridge over the St. Oger to reach a small tarmac road again. Turn left for 100 m, then turn right and follow a forest track which climbs gently without worrying about the tracks on the left. As the slope clearly steepens, turn right. The track crosses a clearing and leads 600 m further on to a tarmac road. Continue to the left to take the marked path (yellow disc) which enters the forest. After 300 m you will come to a crossroads. Continue straight on following the yellow disc. The path that goes alongside the Feigne Orientale wetland comes to a junction of 3 paths. Follow the path straight ahead for 60 m and turn right to take a footpath leading up to a gravelled forest track. By turning left, you reach a tarmac road which you follow for about 60 metres to turn left onto a path which leads to a crossroads. Turn right onto the tarmac road for 150 m, turn right onto a forest track and follow the yellow disc. After passing near a water tower, 30 m before crossing a barrier, take the path on the right which goes down to a health and botanical trail with tree signs. Go down following the yellow disc marking. At the edge of the forest, you will come to a small tarmac road that leads down to the town. At the road junction, turn right, then left just before the fountain. A paved path will lead you to a square, then to a footbridge. You will cross the Saint-Oger again to get back to your starting point.

Marking: green disc 15.3km Starting from the Bouzey dyke, this route will take you on a wide 14 km loop around Chaumousey. The trail is very varied, between the undergrowth and the banks of the Bouzey Lake.

In the land of Nacer and Rayane Bouhanni, this central tour of 62 kilometres winds through the hills between the Madon and the Moselle to the west of Epinal. Starting from the Maison du Vélo at the lake of Bouzey, you will ride over five bumps and accumulate 740 meters of positive elevation gain. To get in shape, ride along the Vosges Canal on the departmental road D460 in the direction of Chaumousey, then Girancourt. In Girancourt, take the D39, a hilly road that takes you to the gates of Dompaire, passing under Virine via the Côte de Circourt and the Côte de Derbamont (>7%). You will enjoy the long sheltered passages under the oak and beech trees. Pay attention to the markings from the entrance to Lamerey to the Madonne exit (junction with the D166). You arrive at the foot of the third hump above Vautrincourt. This stretch of road, open to all winds, leads you to the famous Côte de Harol (17% gradient), which is well known to cyclists from the Grand-Est. At the top, you will enjoy the 360° panorama. To finish this route, join the Canal des Vosges at the Forges d'Uzemain via Charmois l'Orgueilleux and find, by a small tortuous road, the lake of Bouzey having crossed beforehand the "côte des Salades", the highest point of the course. And that's five!

Museum Gaspar is housed in the residence of the middle-class family Gaspar from Arlon who had set up in this house (1893) that was built in 1842. It was renovated in 2004. The two most famous members of this family are animal sculptor Jean-Marie Gaspar (1861-1931) and Charles Gaspar (1971-1950) who was a photographer and a sponsor. He gave his house to the town of Arlon on the condition they make a museum of it, dedicated to his brother's work and that put into honour the history and the heritage of Arlon. At the first floor, theree are two restored salons identical to a middle-class salon from the early 20th century that show Jean-Marie Gaspar's sculptures. and the art and picture collection of Charles Gaspar. The rest of the first floor is dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the museum that alternates artv and history. A religion room shows collections about the abbey of Orval and to the people's devotion at the 18th century, and also relics from the ancient Saint-Martin church. But the Masterpiece is the famous altarpiece Retable de Fisenne - a 16th century masterpiece from the Antwerp school. It was bought in 1893 by a middle-class family from Arlon, the family Gaspar. Jean Gaspar (1861-1931) was a sculptor. He was trained by the Antwerp sculptor Jef Lambeaux. His works are in bronze and in plaster and they are exhibited in the salons that have been restorated as they were in his house. His brother Charles (1871-1950) was a photographer, a collector and a sponsor. He gave this house to the town of Arlon. It hosts the library of the Archaeological Institute of the Belgian Province of Luxembourg and its secretary office since 1954. A wide part of the museum is also dedicated to temporary exhibitions about art and history of Arlon.

Rich in the Gallo-Roman past of Arlon, the museum houses an impressive collection that bears witness to the daily life of this period.One of the peculiarities of the museum is its imposing and rich lapidary collection, composed of several dozen fragments of ancient funerary monuments.These blocks and the objects from Roman craftsmanship will teach you more about daily life at that time.

The Harbour of Epinal is located between the Moselle and the Canal, 5 minutes away from the city centre. With 32 mooring points with water and electricity terminals in service, it welcomes many pleasure boats every year. There, you will find La Capitainerie, which was built by the city, where you can rent electric boats. Just next door, the Maison du vélo will be able to provide you with information on rentals and bike rides, with or without electric assistance. The park has been converted into an amusement park and has several playgrounds for children as well as a cycle path. It can also accommodate camper vans, with a reception area of 5 places equipped with water and electricity terminals in service limited to 48 hours. - Moorings/spots for pleasure boats will be free of charge until the implementation of the CAE co-operative public company (during June 2021). - A standard amperage of at least 16 amps is available - Instructions for the use of the water/electricity terminals will be issued by the CAE on Monday the 17th of May 2021 (the terminals are already in service). Attention: Due to the very low flow of the Moselle, VNF will have to close the access to the port of Epinal from Thursday the 26th of July 2018 at 10:00. A decision will be taken next week with the prefecture.

A cultural and tourist site of unsuspected richness to be discovered or rediscovered without further delay! Push open the doors of the Musée de l'Image and you will be surprised by the abundance and diversity of its collections. Since its creation in 2003, the Museum has housed one of the largest collections of popular printed images in France and abroad: a collection of more than 110,000 images which constitutes a window on the fascinating world of old and contemporary images and their creators and offers an original look at our society. By confronting popular images with other works –contemporary photographs, paintings, but also musical, literary and theatrical works, the Museum gave itself the goal of questioning the connections –humorous, sentimental, sometimes improbable, that exist between the images of yesterday and today. The works on display are presented with explanatory texts for everyone's understanding. The permanent exhibition is designed as an open book that will make you want to turn the pages and look at the images. By offering inventive and varied exhibitions throughout the year, the Musée de l'Image has become not only a reference point for popular imagery but also for the way in which these historical collections can be questioned and understood. For conservation reasons, the images on display are regularly changed, allowing visitors to discover new works each time they visit!

Admire this 3,000 m² rose garden on the banks of the Moselle. In the typical French formal style, it is made up of around 1,700 roses of 550 different varieties. This rose garden is also adjacent to the Roman house: a curiosity from the late 19th century in Epinal.

The Roman House is the replica of a villa uncovered in Pompeii and is located on the banks of the Moselle. Because I love Epinal so much (they kindly adopted me!), I especially like to stroll, from May onwards, around this restful place and through the scented alleys of its magnificent rose garden. In Epinal, green spaces are an imporant part of the city! The rose garden, in the French formal style, charms me with its 500 varieties of roses carefully tended by the city’s gardeners. When I get to the centre of this scented and colourful park, I go back in time to 1892, when Mrs Morel Leclerc, heiress of a flour mill transformed into a pasta factory, decided to build the Villa. The architect Boussard, aware of the Vosges climate, which was a little cooler than the Italian one, made a few adaptations such as the chimneys in the corners to ensure underfloor heating. He also created an entrance hall consisting of two covered atriums, each with an impluvium. It is said that Mrs Morel, draped in a toga, gave sumptuous receptions here, served by dwarfs! But the owner, ruined, soon abandoned her antique reveries! The city acquired this unfinished property in 1902 to install its library and finished the construction of the winter garden. This building is now home to the companies of the Pôle Images.

A contemporary church combining concrete and glass, and 180 m2 of magnificent stained glass windows are not to be missed! Once through the gate, a soft coloured light reveals bold lines, in an airy atmosphere that favours meditation. Don’t be confused by its very contemporary exterior and concrete structure... because Notre-Dame-au-Cierge reconciles us with "modern art" as soon as we enter the enamel portal! This impressive place of light leaves no visitor indifferent: spirituality is bursting here through a festival of colours, thanks to the side panels made of paving stones where blue and red dominate. The dazzling stained glass window, the work of master glass artist Gabriel Loire, is the largest figurative stained glass window in France. It pictures the life of the Virgin. Built between 1956 and 1958 after the bombing of the station district in 1944, this church is the symbol of the reconstruction of Epinal. The building is visited a lot and has been listed since 2014. The general architectural, with its sober and pure lines, reveals its palette of colours all the better when you visit it on a sunny day! As you walk through the busy town, you emerge calm and at peace...

Enjoy the richness of our libraries: culture, entertainment and fun are at the forefront! Throughout the year, they offer numerous activities: exhibitions, showcases, literary events, workshops, etc. All of which are accessible for free! The network of the libraries and multimedia libraries of the area is made up of the BMI (Bibliothèque Multimédia Intercommunale) in Épinal, the BMI relay in Golbey, the multimedia libraries in Thaon-les-Vosges, Deyvillers and Bains-les-Bains. You can surf the Internet, browse through magazines, consult the latest comics, mangas and novels, listen to music, watch films, discover the rich heritage collections and even borrow a librarian! To be discovered at the BMI in Epinal : If you have always dreamed of entering the famous Harry Potter library, the woodwork room is for you. For a moment, plunge into the old books, the old grimoires, and meet fantastic animals. The woodwork room contains 18th century oak furniture from the library of the abbey of Moyenmoutier and contains some of the BMI's old books. It is open every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon and a guided tour is offered every month. Groups are welcomed by appointment. In the centre of the square is a statue of a child pulling a thorn out of his foot. The "thorn puller" (tirreur d’épine) is a bronze replica of an ancient statue kept in Italy. All around the square, discover buildings that represent well the post-war architecture (this part of the city was destroyed in June 1940).

It was the political and economic hub of the city, which has kept its former arcades and was once the place for merchants. On the first arch, the oldest one (13th century), a commemorative plaque recalls the name given to the Place des Vosges in Paris. Opposite the arcades around the place, don’t miss the house of Renaissance style called Maison du Bailly. It was built in 1604 by a rich paper-maker and now houses an art gallery on the ground-floor. Then take a look at the building, dated 1904, in which there is a drugstore. It symbolizes the Art nouveau style on the place.

The basilica is a thousand-year-old jewel of architecture which witnesses the key moments of local life and watches over the city with its belfry-tower like a sentinel made of pink sandstone from the Vosges. Its incongruous silhouette, a mix of different eras, has won us over, just like it has won over the hearts of the residents of Epinal... The Basilica of Saint-Maurice is worth a visit, whatever your religion! Built in the 11th century, it was originally a parish church but also an abbey church, under the patronage of Saint Goëry, whose relics cured "the evil of the burning ones". In the 13th century, pilgrimages made it possible to finance works, and the church was able to host a chapter of canonesses. As transitional building between Romanesque and Gothic, its architecture kept traces of its evolution through a combination of Rhine, Burgundian and Champagne styles. As we enter the Church through the bourgeois portal to the west, we are humbled by the Nave, which is 14 metres high! The tribunes of the Transept, each served by a spiral staircase, justify the two turrets visible on the outside and so typical!
