Follow the road through the village. 3 - Turn right onto Chemin des Buigettes (Chami de las Bouedgitas). 4 - Turn left onto Chemin de l'Arbre and continue to the butte de l'Arbre. Return right on Chemin de l'Arbre. 5 - Turn left on Chemin des Fontaines (Chami de las Founts). 6 - Turn right onto Chemin des Pieux (approx. 80 m after the fountains), then right to return to the hillock.

At the first crossroads, turn right and follow the path for 400 m. before going downhill between two low walls towards the Etang du Châtelard. Go over the causeway and continue straight up.At the road, turn left at an acute angle and follow the road to La Villeneuve - Pindogne. Continue for 500 m. until you reach the small road on the left and go down through the fir plantation.Continue on to a T-junction; Turn right, leave the Chemin du Châtelard opposite, and turn left towards La Mazière.Go through the church square, walk along beside the parish buildings and you will be on the trail that leads to the Saint-Jean Fountain.

Built in the 19th century, it replaced an old ruined building, an outbuilding of the Chateau de la Mothe. Today it is attached to the village of La Vernède. Rebuilt thanks to donations from the inhabitants of the villages of La Vernède and Serre. It overlooks the Sagne Jurade pond and sometimes becomes home to an exhibition in the summer season.

Castle of la Mothe was built in the 12th century by the lords of Mérinchal. At the time, it was a true feudal dwelling, with a moat surrounding the residence. A pentagonal corner tower with a spiral staircase was added in the 15th century, and in the 1960s and 1970s, it housed the commune's nursery school. Castle of La Mothe is now used for several purposes: town hall, exhibition hall (in summer) and holidays home on the upper floors.

The village wash-house and St Jean fountain at the entrance to the village have retained their original state. Its well is in cut granite. A cross reminds us of the sacred nature of the place. The Fontaine St Jean is reputed never to freeze or run dry. Next to the fountain, the drinking trough and the wash-house form a hydraulic complex, with a precise layout. To preserve its purity, the fountain is always located upstream or separate from the other features. The famous hazelnut cake "Le Creusois" is one of the gastronomic symbols of our department. The original recipe is said to have been discovered in the former Bonshommes monastery. You can find this delicious cake in any of the artisan bakeries belonging to the "Le Creusois" association. Its success has also inspired many mass-market industrial cakes, and some still claim that its origins lie in our commune.

St Jean's Fountain is reputed never to freeze and never to dry up. Founded in the 14th century, this church comprises 2 chapels, one to the north, known as de Villelume, and the other to the south, known as de la Mothe. It houses 2 pieces of listed furniture: the Altarpiece and the Eagle Lectern. The bell tower, rebuilt in 1755, houses two bells, sponsored by Louis and Henriette Françoise de La Roche Aymon, dame de Roussines et de Barmont. It is located on Grande Randonnée route 41: Vallée du Cher.

367.80 km long, the river "Le Cher" has its source here, in Mérinchal, (altitude 717m) near the village that bears its name. A tributary of the Loire, it crosses the communes of Chard, Les Mars, Auzances and Rougnat, as far as the confluence at Villandry. The small stream that rises cascades down to Chard then continues through the Cher Valley, rich in remarkable fauna and flora.

The Archaeological House of Combrailles is an exhibition space which preserves and presents the archaeological heritage of the territory, thanks to an original and spacious scenography. 2025 new temporary exhibition "Bargoin in Combrailles" to discover! The permanent exhibition tells the story of "The Lanes and the Men", from the great Roman road Lyon-Saintes, created by Agrippa at the beginning of the 1st century, to the A89 motorway, passing through the royal roads in the 18th century. century. Discover many objects that cover 5,000 years of history, from the flint daggers discovered in the dolmen of Saint-Etienne-des-Champs to the Romanesque capitals of the village of Herment. An important Gallo-Roman collection comes from the excavations of the ancient road town of Beauclair with inscriptions unique in France, dedicated to Toutatis, Gallic god. A route can be completed via several fun terminals, and a circuit of five major sites nearby can be competed on request. In 2025, a new temporary exhibition, "Bargoin in Combrailles", brings together archaeological objects from the collections of the Bargoin museum in Clermont-Ferrand, historical partner of the Voingt museum. All these objects come from the Combrailles region and most are being exhibited for the first time. An opportunity to also talk about the pioneers of archeology in Combrailles.

The biggest and best preserved motte (raised area of ground from a motte and bailey castle) in the Auvergne with a height of 12m. It was erected in the 11th century at the command of an Auvergnat Count. A wooden tower of which there are no traces left , would have risen from it's summit. Heritage sheet N° 12, Collection Trésors des Combrailles, on sale in the Bureaux de Tourisme des Combrailles.

Built in the 13th century, the church was restored in the 19th century. The current bell tower-porch dates from the 19th century, but the lower part of the original double-arched bell tower-wall can be seen to the rear. The original portal has been preserved, its triple voussoir supported by a frieze-chapiteau depicting double human heads. Two modern chapels have enlarged the nave.
