An easy hike without difficulties. Typical architecture and houses in LA SAUVETAT and beautiful views to the volcano massif of the Cantal. D – DEPART: LIEUTADES, village place. Left of the hotel take the direction of ESPAYRAC / LE LAUSSIER. After 250 m take a stony path which climbs between the pastures. 1 - At the crossroad with the road to LES VAYSSIERES HAUTE go straight on until LA SAUVETAT. There take the asphalt road into the village. 2 - At the end of the village panorama to the Cantal mountains. Go back into the village and turn at the main crossroad to your left into a path, which passes some houses. At the next intersection, continue at left in the direction of LES VAYSSIERES HAUTES. At the road, continue already 200 m at right. 3 - In VAYSSIERES HAUTES leave the asphalt road and take a path to your right. It will lead you between ash and oak trees until ESPEYRAC. To see: a typical farmhouse with fountain, livestock drinking and bakehouse. 4 - Take the road back to LIEUTADES. Mountainbike: Good sporting level. Climb between Depart and 1 on a very stony path. Sportive climb before 3.

An easy hike, ideal for hot days, the path is shady the most time. From the departure point possibility to follow for 2 km the Peatlog of Vergnes des Mazes with information display boards (in French language). D – DEPART: From LIEUTADES take the car for 4 km in the direction of LACALM. Big parking at your right. Take the path, which goes to your left into a beech wood. Follow it for 2 km. 1 - At the end of the wood take the path at right until the village BURGUERETTES. 2 - In BURGUERETTES take left into the village. Typical architecture and old farmhouses, beautiful view on the volcano massif. Go back and follow the asphalt road to LES MAZES. To see: beside the road a memorial cross, called “Cross of the soldier”. 3 - In LES MAZES in front of a big farm house turn at right. The path crosses the wood and takes you to the departure point. Mountainbike: Easy level, no difficulties, very pleasant circuit.

A long hike with a long descent and long steep climb. Recommended only for expererienced hikers. Beautiful view on the Truyère valley and the volcano massif. The "Roc des Pas" is a big rock which shows curious traces which seems to be foot-and handprints. Their origin is not known. D - Depart Lieutadès in front of the former hotel. Take the road to LA SAUVETAT until VAISSIERES HAUTES (or make the first part of the hike "La Sauvetat". 1 - Cross the village. After the village take a path at left which follows the hedges. After 700 m take the path to the right. 2 - In LA SAUVETAT follow an asphalt road at left, cross the village and take the path which passes in front of the last house. Follow the fence and the large path between two ash hedges. 3 - At the intersection go straight on until a flat site where you follow the fence into the wood. Then follow the path and exceed the fence. The path leads you along an embankment to the "Roc des Pas". At point 3 follow a path at right into the valley which joins another path. Take the second path and go until POUJET. 4 -Cross the D 65 and take the path at right of a house to reach the D 11. Follow the road for 500 m. Take the path to ESTOURNIES and cross the village. The path joins a second time the D 11. Turn at right. 5 - Follow the asphalt road, cross the bridge and take at the next turn a steep path into the wood. Follow it until LA BORIE. 6 - Cross LA BORIE and take at the end of the village a path to your right which follows a stone wall. Take it and go back to LIEUTADES.

In the 13th century Lagarde was Commandery of Knights templar. The little chapel in this village is the last remnant of this once important property. The castle of LA BORIE is a good example of military architecture of 15th century. It is private property and can not be visited. Panoramic view to the Tailladès valleys and the Truyère river.

This easy family hike on good paths passes in the Chabridet wood and offers beautiful view points. Gourdièges is an interesting little village with an old church dating partly from the 16th century (visit outside only). D - From the Tourist Office in Pierrefort, take the D990 until the ancien post office. Turn right in the direction of SAINT- GERVAIS. 1 - At the sports field leave the Roman way and take the parallel path at right towards “PRE-CLAU”. 2 - At the end of the path to the left follow right towards CHABRIDET woods. 3 - Hug the woods to the right until the Roman way 4 - Follow to the right in the direction of GOURDlEGES. Beautiful view to the Aubrac plateau. 5 - At the end of the path follow the road to the left. 6 -Before the sign GOURDIEGES take the road to the right. Go towards the old bread oven called “Four Banal” (note the original archway and lauze roof). 7 - Continue straight on until the church and observe the old comb bell tower, the stone cross and a "trifront" next the entrance. Keep left until the exit to the village. View of the Plomb du Cantal and Puy de Rocher to the right. 8 - Take the path opposite until the D990. 9 - Follow the D990 to the left for 200m. 10 - Leave the road and take the way to the left. Re- enter the wood to the right until the Roman way then right and descend until Pierrefort. Mountainbike: Easy level. Count 1 hour. Marked green signed = .

D - DEPART: From the Tourist Office, take the D990 for 200 m, direction SAlNT- FLOUR until the ancien Post Office, then to the right direction SAlNT- GERVAIS. 1 - At the sports field follow the left track direction of Bois de Chabridet. 2 - Cross CHABRIDET WOOD. 3 - In the middle of the forest turn at left and follow the sandy path to the D990. 4 - Follow the D990 to the right for 200 m then to the left. Bypass the PUY d’ASSAC. 5 - Arriving at the D34 follow it to the right for 300 m then take the path to the left towards TRENAC. 6 - In TRENAC take the first path on the left between the houses. 7 - The path borders the lake of Montzorier, fishing area. Views of the Puy de Bane, Puy de la Cede, Plomb de Cantal and the Puy de Rocher. 8 - Turn left towards MONTROZIER WOOD and cross it. 9 - Arriving on the D265 (note the path leads out of a bend). Continue for 200m then go right until the view point on the “CROlX d’ lSERGUES.” View of the BREZONS VALLEY. Return to the D265, cross it in direction of the wood. At the junction follow to the right to Pierrefort. Mountainbike: Easy level. Time: 1 hour 45 minutes. Between 4 and 5 ruts hidden by vegetation. At 9: Attention, dangerous turn. Marked as foot path in green = and special bike signs triangle/points.

A hike rather long in kilometres and time with a difficult climb between 5 and 6. Near to the FONTANES footbridge spanning the Vezou ruins of an old house and a mineral spring containing carbolic acid. This water had medicinal properties used for the treatment of gastric troubles, passive haemorrhage and digestive problems. D - DEPART: Church in PIERREFORT. Take the direction of ORADOUR (D48). After the Old People’s Home 1 - take the first turning on the left. Continue in the direction of the sports field. 2 - At the reservoir continue to the right, join the FAVEROLLES bridge by a path bordering a small wall. Join the road and take left. 3 - At the way out of the village go right opposite the bread oven. The path leads to COLOMBIER. Hug the road on the left. Follow the D148 for 100 m. 4 - At the first jonction follow the large track between the D148 and the POUGET road. Follow this road for 900 m. 5 - At the crossroads go right and take the path between fences. Continue in the same direction. Pass near the village LE THERON and continue straight on. 6 - Near a cross cross a little road and continue the path with trees and between pastures. Carry on until FONTANES. Cross the village. 7 - Cut across the D65. Enter the field. The path, 100m lower to the left descends rapidly to the mineral fountain. Cross the river Vezou. Climb again to cross the wood. Go round a grazing land to find a path at right. near a stone wall contunue left. 8 - Go right and find a good path which passes near an abreuvoir. View to the Turlande chapel. 9 - You arrive at LABORIE (It is possible to make a detour here left towards the Rocher de Turlande. Views of the Gorges de Truyere and the 13th century chapel, 30mins). At the crossroads take the track to the right. Go 1 km until the road to PAULHENC. 10. Continue towards PAULHENC and at the beginning of the village go right opposite the oratory. Passing the cemetery to the left continue in the same direction. Cut across the D990. Carry on opposite reaching a large agricultural shed. 11 - Carry on opposite between meadows and reach the road. Cut across it and follow a good path on the right which descends to PIERREFORT. 12 - At the first houses take the tar road to the right. Immediately left take the Fonfrede road. 100 m after a large bend branch off in “Impasse des Iris”. Carly on through the slope and steps which leads to the D990. Follow the direction “Town centre” towards the departure point. Mountainbike: Difficult. Between 6 and 7 rapid descent and very difficult climb (pushing). .

A days ramble. Advisable to avoid very hot weather (rare shadow). Along this walk you can discover natural sites, superb viewpoints and heritage of human habitation. D - DEPART: Church in Pierrefort. Follow direction of ORADOUR(D48). Pass in front of the Old people’s Home. 1 - Take the first road to the left. Continue in the direction of the sports field. 2 - At the entrance to the sports area follow a path between stone walls to the right to rejoin Faverolles. the take left. 3 - In the village take the D148 in direction of SAINTE-MARIE, then take right opposite the bakehouse. The path leads to LE COLOMBIER. Follow the D148 to the right for 100m. 4 - Turn right and take a large way which passes in front of an abreuvoir. 900 m later you find a crossroad. 5 - Follow straight on. 6 - Take the sandy path on the left until RISSERGUES. panoramic view to the Cantal mountains. Take left then the first path to the right in direction of ROUVELET BAS. 7 - After the first house take the right path and descend along a fence, then follow until the TREBOUL BRIDGE. 8 - At the Pont de Tréboul take the direction of SAINTE-MARIE. 9 - Follow the D56 to the left towards LA FON DEL SOL (mineral fountain, to the right an old thermal hotel) and SAINTE MARIE. 10 - 100 m after the bridge of FON DEL SOL take the path to the left which climbs to SAINTE MARIE 11 - Visit the church with stained glass windows designed by Jean Cocteau. 12 - . At the exit of the village take the path between the roads to PIERREFORT and ORADOUR. Nice view on the Truyère gorges, the Aubrac plateau and the Cantal mountains. Follow the path until FALITOUX. 13 - Cross FALITOUX and take a track on the right until the D 148. Follow the road right until a bridge. 14 - Before the bridge take a path in direction of LA TERRISSE and then left until CLAVIERES. At the end of the village take the path straight on until the D 48. 15 - Follow the D48 left. 16 - After 1 km take the path to the right and 10 m after to the left to join PIERREFORT. Mountainbike: difficult level. Time: 3 hrs 45 minutes. Between 11 and 14: difficult climb, pushing before Clavières.

A little and easy hike, ideal for families. Main interest: the Chassagne chateau which was at the end of the 19th century an agricultural school (today private property). Take on the church place in PIERREFORT the road in direction of SAINT-FLOUR. 200m later after the Gendarmerie take a path on your left. D - Starting sign and marked trail. Follow the path until the road D 65. 1 -Take the road to the right. 2 - View to the Château de Chassagne on your left. You arrive to the junction of LA CHASSAGNE. 3 - Take left the way to the castle (private property). Cross the Vezou river and pass in front of the castle. Follow the trail until the road D 265. 4 - Follow the road on the left until PIERREFORT.

Christianised menhir Big christianized menhir already on the Plateau of Aubrac in the commune of Lieutadès between Burguerette and Les Mazes. It is on the left side of the road coming from the direction of Lieutadès and dominates the landscape. Beautiful view on the Monts du Cantal. It is listed on the French megaliths list. It is not the only megalith in this region, the Planèze of Saint-Flour counts more than 10 accessible megaliths. Next to the road to Chaudes-Aigues there is also a tumulus.

Roman chapel dating from the XIIth century with beautiful panorama on the Truyère gorges. This little chapel was the castle chapel of the Turlande castle which was former situated on the rose quartz rock of Turlande. In this castle was born Robert de Turlande who founded the La Chaise Dieu Abbey. The castle was destroyed during the Hundred Years War, only the chapel was spared. In the chapel was placed a roman virgin (today secured somewhere else). She was replaced by a modern copy. Forgetten for a long time, the chapel is today in renovation. Classed historic momument. The rock of Turlande was occupied formerly of a castle in which was born Robert de Turlande, founder of the Abbey of La Chaise Dieu in Haute-Loire. It was destroyed during the Hundred Years War. Only the Romanesque castral chapel remains, classified as a historical monument. The motte castrale, in a semi-circle, leaning on the rocky spur is still present and one can access it, provided one goes through the vegetation, at the foot of the rock. Inspired by London pubs, Au Bureau is a pub, brasserie and restaurant all rolled into one. We offer a rich and varied menu, which changes twice a year, as well as delicious suggestions from the chef. The Anglo-Saxon decor is friendly and warm, like the team, always taking care of our customers. On Thursday evenings, we offer activities twice a month: Blind tests, karaoke or concerts and activities are put in place throughout the year. Welcome, there's always something happening at the office. Some dishes: Welsh, fish & chips, cantalou burger. We also serve 2 suggestions per month, at least one fish.

The Mangoune is a brasserie-style restaurant and home to the cuisine, flavours and specialities of the Auvergne region. We favour simple, authentic, tasty and home-made cuisine that showcases local produce. Traditional dishes, such as truffade, pounti, salt-cured meats, PDO Auvergne cheese and Salers beef, among others, are served alongside dishes with an innovative twist such as farinades (a pancake « made in Cantal »), delicious local burgers, finger-licking chips, homemade ice creams and gourmet pastries... The atmosphere generated from the restaurant’s different scenes is reminiscent of the 1900s/1950s, with a traditional farm kitchen scene, a country cottage, a street scene, an Auvergne bar, a garage and a blacksmith’s workshop. There is something that will appeal to everyone … a step into the past and a unique atmosphere that will provide you with a memorable experience. It offers local mountain cuisine from here and elsewhere, homemade and quality dishes adapted to your desires and diets. Come and taste its generous and gourmet cuisine in this green and natural setting at an altitude of 870m, on the terrace, overlooking the hills or by the fire when the snow arrives. The inn, like a refuge at the foot of the Cantal mountains, is a warm and friendly place in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park.
